Like wise - I am up on all serial killers but have not heard of this guy. Would be really cool to hear more from your aunt's perspective Sweet Pea!!
Actually, there's a fair amount of info on his killings. If you google his name and/or run it through yahoo, there's a lot of info both in Wikipedia (more recent in time) and the Criminal ZZZ library on serial killers. I have periodically run his name through both search engines over the years in my need to get answers to my friend's death. It's a little unlcear to me as to how he was sentenced. I think he may have pled guilty and therefore avoided a trial and all the press that attaches to it which is why not much was heard about him. Moreover, he was not alive for very long after his caputure - I think only a couple of years - before he was killed in prison.
It was very big news at the time the killings were discovered. Three of his victims were discovered within a couple of months of each other, all in the mountains surorunding Santa Barbara. There is a lot of press archived in the L.A Times if you are willing to pay to retrieve it.
With all the press about the killings, however, there's not much info on who he was as a person. He was apparently a quiet guy, lived with a girl, attended city college and was the son of a family that owned a restauant in Solvang. apart from the basic facts, there's not much else written that I could find.
