So theres a story in my family, well it's not really a story its true,
Anyhow,
My aunt dated a serial killer, I've been having problems finding any information on him.
This was in the mid seventies, He would pick up hitchhikers along the coast of California (Hwy101 and the Pacific Coast Highway) then rape and murder them. ( Thats actually how he met my Aunt, She was hitchhiking and he picked her up! haha) He was finally caught when he shot one in the head and she lived, and she ended up ratting him out.
Anyhow, His family was from Solvang, CA. And his name was Hans Christiansen I believe.
Do you guys know anything about this man, Or can help me find anything?
Mysterious Molecules
All i can say is that his name is a typical danish one.
Hooligan

Weird, I practically read Crime Library on a constant basis and I never heard of the guy.
On that note, I did a search through it and found nothing at all. Yet, it's on Wikipedia. laugh.gif Weird.

Yea, Crazy,
I was starting to think that the story was made up. haha
My family spoke of it a few times rather non chalantly.

I did a search of his name on Yahoo, A few things came up, not much though.

Anyhow thats exactly where I"m from!, I worked in Solvang, CA for a couple years grin2.gif

Your aunt was very lucky!

A friend of mine was one of his victims. We were students at UCSB together and her death has haunted me ever since. Christiansen was not captured until after I had left Santa Barbara and so it was not until I started researching him a hand full of years ago that I learned who the killer was.
I read somewhere that at the time of the killings he was living with a girl (who he had also picked up hitchhiking). I recall that her last name was something like Soliz. Was that your aunt?

I have wondered often about what Christiansen was like and what motivated him. I found his picture online somewhere but it's not pariticularly revealing - he looked like an oridinary blonde haired colleged kid.

What more do you know abuot him? What has your aunt said?
Hooligan
No My Aunts last name is Mitchelle.
I think they dated briefly.
I haven't discussed this with my Aunt as of yet, But I'm going to try and call her tonight. I think it may be a touchy subject with her haha (she's uber-religous)
But my mom has brushed the subject a few times and so has my Grandma.
But I'll find out more tonight after I get off of work and let you know grin2.gif

ME TOO!! I'm on that site daily and there is hardly any serial killer that I don't know all the stats. I even did a search and was gonna post the link but it didn't bring him up. Guess, I'll read up on him now.

Actually, there's a fair amount of info on his killings. If you google his name and/or run it through yahoo, there's a lot of info both in Wikipedia (more recent in time) and the Criminal ZZZ library on serial killers. I have periodically run his name through both search engines over the years in my need to get answers to my friend's death. It's a little unlcear to me as to how he was sentenced. I think he may have pled guilty and therefore avoided a trial and all the press that attaches to it which is why not much was heard about him. Moreover, he was not alive for very long after his caputure - I think only a couple of years - before he was killed in prison.
It was very big news at the time the killings were discovered. Three of his victims were discovered within a couple of months of each other, all in the mountains surorunding Santa Barbara. There is a lot of press archived in the L.A Times if you are willing to pay to retrieve it.

With all the press about the killings, however, there's not much info on who he was as a person. He was apparently a quiet guy, lived with a girl, attended city college and was the son of a family that owned a restauant in Solvang. apart from the basic facts, there's not much else written that I could find.
