Someone said the bible said Moses had a wife and three fathers in law. How can someone have three fathers in law and one wife?

They probably weren't sure who his wife's real father was.

It's entirely possible that Moses did have three wives. While God was never happy with polygamy, it was a cultural norm of the time, with many Old Testament characters having multiple wives (Solomon being the most extreme example, with over 700 wives and concubines). Three father-in-laws would seem to indicate three wives. He might have even had more than three, beyond the three that we are aware of. The Bible is not exhaustive in records such as this, the Bible may have neglected to mention more.

I have read the "King james Version" of the Bible. I do remember reading that Moses was married to Sephra, And Moses father in law was named: "Jethro", also Moses was married to a Black woman (Ethiopian woman). But I do not know about the third wife. I don't remember reading about the third wife. But I know that God, favored polygamy highly. In the Bible the words mean different then the words we use today. So I agree its very complicated.

You're right, annalaura. There is also a place (not sure where) where his father-in-law is said to be Reul, and at another place it's Raguel. Maybe there was just a copyist error somewhere along the lines to get the name slightly mixed up (I don't have time to go back and check the Hebrew at this point in time - maybe in a day or so, when my essay's finished). Maybe there were only two wives and the third father-in-law is an error in copying.
