Are you scared of ghost?

In some eastern believes, ppl who are scared of ghost are those who have a guilty conscience. Some who are not scared, usually won't see such things.

For me, i do scared of ghost. I'm not embarassed about that though. But i'm still interested in hearing encounters and maybe do a little bit of research.

Maybe you won't see a ghost, but you may see something that pertains to an exclamation mark on your head or layman terms...

you might hear some footsteps in your room in the dark, and you said to yourself "WTF!"...

or are you scared of the dark? no.gif

I am not sure what you mean about a guilty conscience? Do you mean that those who see spirits feel guilty or that they are hiding something, hence the guilt? NO I was never ever afraid of the dark, till recently.. yes.gif

Guilty conscience maybe due to doing something bad in your past, or maybe seen some atrocity and that does glued up into your feelings.

Why are you scared of the dark until now? What made you that? blink.gif

No I do not fear ghosts but I have seen my share of the paranormal. Most that do frear ghosts seem to experience more because they assume that every thing spooky is because of a haunting. That creek in the night is automatically a haunting because they have it stuck in their mind that it is. It is no different than people who are scared of man eating fish. Any time they swim or are in a body of water they asume that there is something at the bottom that is waiting to snatch them from below and eat them.

Then there are those that attract spiritual energy and are highly perceptive to ghostly activity. Most people who are like this tend to fear the unseen entities that attract to them. Also I have learned that spirits tend to feed off of negative energy. Negative energy being depression, anger, and fear. Most negative feeders are of an evil or demonic nature too. That is why I believe it is necessary to rid ourselves of such spirits. And that is were a major problem insues. Most people that are attracted to the paranormal or spirit world want an encounter with an entity to happen, fearful of it or not. Whatever is attracting to them could be evil or good, but it doesnt matter to these types of people because they want it. Much like the person who is in a relationship with an abusive person. They want the relationship and want the person so bad that they dont care if the person is hurting them.

if i suspect anything out of the norm to be happening i usually look for the most logical explanation first. i have witnessed things in my life and trust me i dont literally look for them. as far as every noise in the house, with my home alarm, and my australian shepard in my house im usually not too concerned with unusual sounds. grin2.gif

I have had some that caught me off guard, but not what I would call scary-just startled me at first. There have been a couple or so that have been more than scary, and I didn't/don't consider them to be human at all. --

Personally, I am wary of the dark. I have heard footsteps that have stopped by the side of my bed during sleep paralysis. That did pooh me up a bit.

I have seen spirits, however, at the time I have not been scared, in fact, at the time it seemed all very normal, it was only a little later that I have thought "hold on, what was that? Who was that, they shouldn't have been there..."

Just as well really, thinking about it, I could have ended up like a bag of nerves lol!

If I saw a ghost, I would go nuts. Probably wake up the whole neighborhood too. As for the dark, I've always been scared of it, I watch too many horror movies and my imagination is overactive. tongue.gif Also, the "unknown" factor with the dark scares me, even in places I'm most comfortable with.

Once when I was about 17 I was stretched out in bed, in the dark. I just layed down to go to sleep late at night after Saturday Night Live, and everyone else was sleeping. I stretched my one arm above my head and a hand grabbed my hand and would not let go. It felt ice cold, and clammy, and like it was reaching from underneath the head of my bed. I couldn't scream or move, at first. Suddenly I got the will to reach up and turn the light on beside my bed and "it" lost it's grip. There was a break, or hole, between my pile of pillows at the top of my bed like something reached through there. I was so freaked out my parents put me in the mental ward for a week. The doctor said I was a liar, and put me on anti-depressants (said I was doing it for attention because I was sad or something). When I got home I tore my bed apart and slept on a mattress in the middle of the room with the light on. Well, I didn't actually sleep at first. I had to start taking cold medicine to put myself to sleep at night.
Now I'm 30 years old. I still sleep with the light on. I finally got a bed last year. A big step for me.
I think I have PTSD from the experience. Whether it was real or not, it was traumatic. After I saw the movie "The Grudge" I wigged out. I had to be put on xanax for awhile. Now I'm just on some mild mood stabilizers, but I'm still afraid of the dark.
I've had other ghostly encounters that were very scary since then, but that was the first and the one that triggered my fear.

That scares me just reading it. I would never be able to cope with something like that. Also, congratulations on the bed. It's another stride towards recovering from your experience.

Thanks. It's better for my back. I started sleeping on those air mattresses on the floor for a long time. Now I have a nice platform bed with a tempurpedic mattress. original.gif
I still sleep with the light on. I don't see that ever changing. My husband didn't seem to have a problem with it since I told him the story. I would never mary someone who didn't believe in the boogyman. wink2.gif

No im not scared!

I have experienced a lot of strange things in my life, and lived with a ghost for almost two years, and that one was almost allways werry present (if i didnt actually could see it, i would feel it) it was more irritating than scary, with that one being there all the time.

I dont mind going alone on a graveyard at night, and i like werry much, to go to the deepest forrest of Sweeden alone, and spend a weekend there. I also have had a few years as homeless, and lived in abandoned appartments, but i have only had one unexplainebel experience, when being in one of these places.
I am aware that there is different entities around us most of the time, but i have also learned, that usually they leave us alone, and it is only rearely, that one of them has the power to actually harm us.

It is not pleasant when something gets to "close" it is not like i enjoy it, but if annoys me, it usually is enough to tell it to go away.

I have to say, that the only thing i do fear, is God - and thats a good fear to have - He´s ok thumbsup.gif

WOW What an experience. The thing with spirits is, they catch us off guard, and when they do, it is TOTALLY frightening to anyone. TO be touched or grabbed is traumatic enough wow..I am sorry your family did that to you and did not believe you. TOO many disgard what they cannot themselves see. As you get older, things will get easier and fall into place. Good Luck to you
frodonet
wow, that's some scary.

I don't think ghost can kill anyone though. Basically the problem is that, ghost tend to catch us offguard maybe while doing something else.

I have some experience, thinking about it scares me.

Sometimes i do sleep with the lights on...haha blush.gif

So far I havent been scared of ghosts. I have seen at least 4 in my life, the first when I was about 7 and the last one about 10 years ago. Each time they looked like regular people. I saw one ghost twice with a 3/4 year gap inbetween seeing him and spoke to him and recieved a reply both times I saw him. I have no interesting story to tell of seeing these ghosts, they were there then they were gone. I suppose if they had gibbered at me or acted in a threatening manner then I would have run as fast as my little legs could carry me, but until that happens I can honestly say Im not scared of ghosts.
redstone
I had a few encounters so far, mostly sounds (screams, growling, footsteps, screeches etc).

I don't deny being frightened of the other realms. I'm a member of a local paranormal research group and I've been to many of their tours, outings and a few investigations and explorations.

My stand is, as long as they don't harm or disturb me I don't mind them making their prescence known.

Myself, as I am a slight believer of ghosts, am scared of them. I have never really encountered any experience with a ghost, but that doesn’t mean you don’t have to believe in them. I’ve heard several stories of encounters people have had with ghosts. Sure, some of them may have been made up, but I guarantee there are a few real one.

Your second question, “Are you afraid of the dark?”. No, I am not afraid of the dark. When I was a little kid, yes. But it is something that I have defiantly overgrew by now.

Great thread, thanks!

I told this story in a recent "Blair Witch" discussion about how as a teen I used to have to cut through a stretch of forest preserve to get to a freinds house alone, and on some pretty dark, moonless nights it can be mighty un nerving to say the least , but taking into consideration the already over hyped legend of satanic rituals occuring in these woods made it scarey enough ....... one night while stumbling along the gravel trail en rout to the last little streatch of path that willl lead me through a back yard and on to nice , safe suburbia....all of the sudden a figure comes in to focus a few paces ahead of me standing completely motionless in front of me and did not move as I stiffly walked past (him) ...when I did muster up the courage to look back over my shoulder it appeared as though whoever/whatever had vanished unsure.gif .....and yes I cut through that same patch of woods 3 nights later....more scared yes , any smarter no......B

I forgot to say if i was afraid of the dark lol

I am very rarely afraid of the dark at all, I can watch horror movies on my own in the dark, I am often alone in the house overnight and if I hear or think I hear a noise downstairs, I will come downstairs in the dark and the dark doesnt scare me then. But if I go to the toilet at night in the dark I am really really scared. When I was a kid I was continually told by a relative about the toilet monster. I was told if I went to the loo in the dark and didnt get back in bed by the time the flush finished then the toilet monster would get me unsure.gif To this day, and I am 41 next month I run like the wind away from the flushing toilet and dive into bed and throw the covers over my head blush.gif I also darent have any part of my body hanging over the bed in case the 'night things' get me blush.gif blush.gif lol

I'm afraid of the dark everywhere. Mostly in my room at night, but everywhere too. I keep thinking "what's the worst that could happen?" But I'm still scared. The only thing that has helped is medication, a little therapy, and saying the "Litany against fear" from Dune.

I am afraid of the dark.

Afraid of ghosts???? I don't think so. Just afraid of what they could do to me.

Afraid of being killed bu ghosts????? No, just afraid of pain.

I really don't like the dark. Sometimes I love it though. but not at my house. If its in the night and its dark I suppose its fine but in the early hours of the morning I'm s*it scared.

I am afraid of “nothing” literally. I do go out and ghost hunt in graveyards at night and I don’t feel a thing. Now, if I "ever" see a ghost, I might be afraid. It will depend on the manifestation.

I hate daylight, and i don't like the sun very much and where i come from, it's warm weather. I prefer it to be dark and melancholy and maybe that's why i love working night shift haha.

You see, even though i love the dark, i'm still scared of it though...but i just had an encounter a few days ago. Not sure whether it's dream or not... blush.gif
Regency
What happened?

I'm afraid of the dark if I'm alone. I would love to see a ghost, do you think that people can only REALLY definitively answer that they believe in ghosts if they've seen one with their own eyes? This is the case for me, seeing is believing - however, I do love to hear other people's experiences.
Opus Magnus
I used to be frightened by spirits, but now I see that the fear is obsolete. If the spirit has the ability to help you, then being afraid will only hinder that opportunity. If the spirit has the ability to harm you, then being afraid will only help it in that objective. Fear is a bad emotion and a bad response to anything.

A bit, though I dont really beleive in them as they go against my religion (Atheism) I guess its more of a fear of the unknown, the concept interests me though.
Moonlight_Magic
Not always it depends on what type of vibe im getting at the time. Ive never seen a ghost full on and im still a little skeptical (although i lean towards believing they exist). I have seen what is termed as a shadow ghost in my peripheral vision, he seems partial to my frontroom wall at times. When i look at the bugger he disappears through it. He is tall, male and wears a hat it seems. My mother saw him too when she was alive. I only see him now and again these days, usually when im sat at the pc facing the wall he is partial too. It may be reflections of light from outside but it happens when the curtains are drawn as well as when im the only one in the room and as im not moving about (being glued to my pc) its seems its not my own shadow that scares me.

I also suffer from anxiety and migraines so it could easily be a visual disturbance related to that, as can a feeling of dread etc.

Anyway as for being scared of the dark or anything like that, sometimes yes and sometimes no. There are times i can walk around my house with all the lights off late at night and not bat an eyelid in fear. However there are other times the place feels well creepy/unfriendly/unwelcoming as though something negative is in the room with me. On those occassions i put the lights on and tell myself not to be so silly, see no one there.

It doesnt happen all of the time, and if i do think a spirit might be present whether or not im scared of it depends on the vibe im getting at the time. I only get freaked out by negative vibes.

For example both my mother and myself have heard a small child sobbing in my sons room when my son has not been here. Its fooled me a few times and ive forgotten my son is at his dads and called up to see if he was alright. Then i realised he wasnt here. My mother was stood right next to the room when she heard it.

I think its most likely coming from close by outside (sound travels) but if it is a spirit i dont feel threatened by it.

Another time i fell alseep on the couch in the frontroom and awoke to hear what sounded like wispering that continued on for some time after i woke up. That did scare me, i couldnt make out what the wispering was saying but it didnt sound freindly. I screamed, jumped up off the couch and fled upstairs with the lights on. That was at 2 am in the morning. In hindsight, as its never happened since, i assume it to be a hypnopompic experience (although im more prone to hypnogogic experiences if im going to get them usually in the form of audio hallucinations as im falling off to sleep (will hear a mans voice call my name for example or on one occassion shortly after my mother passed away i heard a female voice say "goodbye my darling"). But as im half asleep when it happens, and i dont experience it in my fully conscious state i dont rush off to see my psychiatrist. Its nothing more than a sleep disturbance and i am prone to very very vivid dreams at times. I just roll over and go back to sleep.

So am i scared of ghosts? It depends.

There was one house i lived in though that just seemed to be filled with negative energy. The place would freak me out just walking into it. Horrible atmosphere. The strangest occurance in that house was when i was arguing with my then partner. I yelled at him and as i did so a lighter on the mantle piece combusted and burst into flames at the exact same time. I assume it was as a result of a faulty valve but what sparked it i dont know, no one was any where near it at the time and there were no electrical appliances that could have set it off. It just went poof. It was the type of ligher you have to grind the wheel thingy against the flint to spark it. The whole thing just literally burst into flames and melted. It was excellent timing though, it shut my then partner up, im telling ya! He said later in jest "i thought you were going to carrie me!"

It was classic, faulty valve or not, you dont usually get such excellent timing as that!
