i have heard so many times that jesus is for the poor or the uneducated. that this is all they have. they need something to believe in. so this is what i found that kinda left me standing with my mouth open. people with money, and scientists with brains. if they have been posted before sorry. funny thing tho. out of 50 actors and actresses ony 2 were atheists. marlon brando and kathrine hepburn. here are the links. i enjoyed reading these.

Well, that is kind of goofy. The actors are mostly dead. Of course they were religious, most people of that era were. Now, if you would have had a list of the most popular actors of today on there, it would have been more "shocking". After reading the actor's site, I just glanced at the scientist/doctor list and most of the names I recognized were not exactly young either.

what does being young have to do with it. there are alot of young christians. and most scientist have not made a name for them selves until they have been at it for awhile. ever heard of " with age comes knowledge" here is a better list. has tons of young actors.

The one thing artists, politicians, scientists, millionaires and the rest of us have in common is that we're all human.....That's all you need to be religious.......

Of course. The majotiy of actors are not aethiests just like the majority if not all politicians are not going to admit to being aethiests. The fact is that being an aethiest still carries a stigma in many places, particularly in as high profile a position as an Actor. Indeed think how far down hill Tom Cruises credibility has gone since he joined Scientology and started publicly endorsing it. Yet had he acted exactly the same way in support of the Abrahimic Faiths then it would have gone mainly unnoticed. Not Mel Gibson's Anti Semitic Rants that were glazed over in a few days.

This is true. Even in local government people won't tell the truth about their religious beliefs. One of the candidates for the local elections where I live is going door to door at the moment, and he's "god bless you" her, there, and everywhere. I know he's an atheist... but it's what's expected. There's that air of decency and respectability about being a god fearing man... people misguidedly believe they can trust you.

I've said several times on other threads that my mum used to tick the "Christian" box on forms, because there's a stigma attached to being an atheist.

There's not such a stigma attached to being a Deist like me... nobody I meet "out there" knows what one is.

I think religion rather spans all social, education and economic status. My own former father in law might be a good example. He's a scholar, like a hardcore one. This man has 4 doctorate degress (Education, Theology, Linguistics and Classics) and more Masters degrees than I even care to think about. The man is brilliant beyond words. He also used to be a Catholic priest but since he married my mother in law, it's safe to assume that the priesthood wasn't his calling. Even though this man is educated well beyond what most people should be hahaha, he is still a devout believer in his faith. I always thought it was fascinating that given the education disciplines he chose, he remains true to his faith. But, I guess that's why we call it "Faith."

I would think Physics and Hinduism would go rather well together. Like they say many people in the public eye don't tell their true religion. It can cause a lot of trouble.

i would think that being a christian is not so popular. look how many have been killed just for saying they are. i would bet that there have been many more christians killed then athiests. as for mel gibson and his remarks, he needs to watch talking about the jews. the bible says we are to pray for them.
