Here's my story, happened in September 06.

My school organised a study trip to Pulau Bintan, Indonesia. An architecture study trip, we spent the day doing a mini case study of our own hotel building.

The hotel resort is built at the edge of a mangrove swamp, and from the main public road, it's a 5 minutes drive to reach the hotel, both sides are forests. There's a big golf course surrounding the hotel. So yea, we were in the middle of nowhere. The main road is already very rural.

After our study of the hotel, it's free time til the next day. At around 10:30pm local time we decided to go to the beach to catch the stars. As we live in the city, a sky full of stars was quite a sight. So we sat on the beach admiring the stars. Then, someone suggested we move to a darker part of the beach (there was a floodlight at our area).

We walked estimated 100m down the beach, when suddenly I say a bluish white orb of light drift slowly in a "S" shape across the beach. At that moment, one of my friends suggested we turn around, "in fear of muggers and robbers" he said. We walked back along the beach, and suddenly I have this very strong feeling that someone was watching us intensely, following us and I instinctivly turned around, and there's no one there. Another friend commented "do you guys have a strong feeling we're being followed?". Somehow I, in my mind visualised it as a man, standing somewhere near where the 'orb' was, looking at us from the distance. After a while the feeling dissipated.

When we returned back to the hotel, the whole group of us went into a room and discussed what happened. Not everyone said they saw the flying light. Almost everyone felt being watched and followed, and I felt it before my friend commented about it. And the instance I turned around, a few others looked back too.

I'm still wondering what happened that night. Ball lighning? Or something more supernatural?

Could have been lighting, any source really. Heat lightning is possible as well. As you also mentioned you thought you might have been being followed. You said you had a strong and positive feeling of it too. It could just be natural instinct to feel that way. That is what I believe in my opinion. When I get shook up a bit I might also think things of that nature as well. Also, it was dark as you mentioned. Probably added a bit of extra information to your imagination as well. Hope this help.

Back at our hotel room, the guy who said "let's turn back" admitted he said it because he felt a strong feeling of being watched/followed.

The beach was quite dark at some places...

Fireflies i guess.

I've seen fireflues before, and I don't think it's a firefly as the light looked too big to be an insect. Hmm... whitish blue light.

It's been a long time since I last visited this forum. A little update on this case.
One member of the original group whom we encountered the 'thing' with said instead of a light, he saw a shadow running across the beach. This was also the first time which I had one of my "videocam video" visions

It's worthy of note that others turned around at the same time as you.

Strange that you saw a light and someone else saw a shadow. That makes me think it's more paranormal than firefly.

And I'm a great believer in following gut instincts. You probably did avoid something negative. Now whether that figure in your mind's eye was the thing you needed to avoid, or whether that figure served as a warning for something else, that's a different matter.
