I got bored and did a search for members with 0 posts...there's...erm...quite a lot of them. I'm just curious as to why? Are they botters or spammers or something? It's not like they're lurkers or anything as you can view the boards without having to register. Even if you did...why register and then lurk?

There are many features only available to registered members, forum subscriptions, topic tracking, gallery comment posting, gallery uploads, profile viewing and a lot more besides.
A lot of people register as a member on a forum they are interested in regardless of whether they intend to post.

Shouldn't those that do not contribute and are not active (those who have not logged in for a while) be deleted? There are some that are from 2001 and have only had their profile looked at once!
Or at least send them an email encouraging them to participate more to get the full UM experience?
Just a thought...

No, this is something that has been brought up several times over the years; a mass deletion of inactive members is never going to happen for many different reasons.
Here are some previous threads where this has been discussed:
1. Click here2. Click here3. Click hereBeing active on the forum is not a requirement for membership, we would never delete people's accounts based on inactivity.

Zero posters are a problem on all forums ,they are annoying to say the least but no one seems to have come up with any suggestion on how to overcome it .
Some just like to read the posts and some are too shy to post for fear of being ridiculed for their opinions but on this site there is no need to fear because there are some very bizarre opinions expressed and nobody laughs ,even though at times it is hard not to

Exactly how are they a problem?
As a moderator I can tell you that there are all sorts of problems on this forum such as spamming, flaming, personal attacks, bad language. None of these problems are ever caused by zero posters.

Speak for yourself. Personally I laugh, often out loud. Then I put my head in the oven.

Hi everyone.
I come home from a long day at work and the first thing I do is come to UM. I am addicted to this site. But I rarely post anything. Do I feel like I am bothering anyone? no. I learn so much here, I go to work and discuss different topics I have read about from the posts all of you contribute to. I am just a quiet ponderer who feels at home here. Thanks, D

There will always be "non-posters" on all boards. Trust me. There's a lot of them on the boards I belong to. ^^

Nobody has come up with a solution because it is not a problem that requires one; as i've said above, posting on the forum is not a requirement for site membership, there are many features that are only accessable to registered members.
Since this topic has been done to death on many occassions I'm going to close this now since the original point has been satisfactorily covered.
