Hola! This is my first Topic in this Forum. I've recently come across a journal, in it are several months worth of logs which are all dated. What interests me are the last few entries, they tell a story of what sounds like a living forest. There are several clues as to where this took place, the main clue being that it is written in german leading me to believe it took place in Germany. All the entries are dated as I previously said, they are all dated in th1 1800's and tell of Napoleon gaining power which leads me to believe that it is 1811 with the liberation of Germany. Now to the more important parts. Starting in the later entries they say they are venturing through "the woods". Actually I'm gettin ahead of myself. Firstly the man writing this journals name is a Eskil Ewald and he is traveling with a woman of which the name is not mentioned. So back to the entries. They are traveling through the woods and on the third day of thier travels Eskil starts writting of strange occurences. To be more specific he claims that on the first and second night he was woke up by strange sounds. He says that he must me having dilusions due to a lack of water (and why they have not brought a sufficient amount of water for a journey which I assume they knew would take a long time escapes me) but he says they'll continue. Now this is the most odd part. In the journal it says he has just lost the woman he was traveling with. He says that as they were walking on a dirt path she fell into the ground (by this he could mean a hole opened up or there was a hole covered by leaves...I don't really know) and he says she was stuck at the arms and that the hole was not wide enough. So he tryed to help her out and she says she felt a root near her feet but when she put her weight on the root it snapped and she was sucked in and the hole was almost instantly filled in (i think what happened was that water had been dripping from a branch on the same spot for weeks eroding out a hole then when fall came the leaves covered the hole, and when she was sucked in I thought perhaps the root in the ground was supprting to sides of the holes then when it snapped the walls caved which in turn sucking her in and then it was "filled" because of the cave in) so he dug for her but even after digging what he said was 3 feet she was no where to be found so he gave up and continued. Now this is probably the most wierd part. He starts writting of very odd events. for example he said he had decided to nap under a tree and woke up to the branches swinging low at him and he then started to run only to trip on a root which twists his ankle, as he continues to run(I assume limp) he says he escapes to a small river with an overhang which he drinks from and then spends the night under the overhang. That was his last entrie which was on the fifth day. So what do think it is about. Was he delirious? did he murder the girl where was he going? I have no answer to any of these but hope you can help me solve a nearly 200 year old mystery

i'm sure its origonal...also I came across it a yesterday in a barn on some abandoned land. We had heard news that the land next to ours was being sold for a resort or something and they were gonna take down both of the houses so I decided to see what I could salvage and thats where I found it, and I guess the previous owners had died and a nephew or something in florida was the closest relative and didn't know what to do with the land so he sold it...thats what I heard, aswell just to clear it up I heard that from the contractors that were payed to clean up the property(pretty much destroy the house etc) and yeah so...anywas know one knows of any legends or anything like that from around germany? At first I thought brothers grimm(lol) but I don't know.

BLIMEY dude, i think you need to get that book to a musium or big library quick before they start building that resort, there is potential that there is something very special about that area that needs to be investigated...or did you not find it in the area it was describing? You definately need to go and get it checked out, get some people on board, it could be the beginning of a great adventure

The story sounds like a cross between the Lord Of The Rings 'Old Forest' and an X-Files episode set in Florida with two camouflaged beings in the woods...

My question is: How did it get out of the forest? The man did not put another entry in the book, so did HE make it out of the forest, if so, why not finich writing about his travels? Otherwise, someone would have had to find it.

Museums are run by humans who are subject to the same moral and ethical frailties as any other humans. I would not rush to put it in their hands. You need to find out how old the journal is. It could be a lot of things. Even if the timeframe is right, it could be a work of fiction. Welcome to the forums.

Welcome to the forum. It sound to me like you have a good mystery on your hands, handle it carefully. You should do some research first. I would start with the property itself, find out as much as you can about it, and those who lived there. The writer of the diary itself next, if that's possible. After that, have the book checked out by an expert on old books. Do your research here too, find somebody with a good reputation. An internet search might yeild some results, but be sure to check them, if you can. Hope that helps some, and good luck.
Good Journey.

The hole mentioned in the story sounds to me like it might have been a "blue-hole" of sorts. They are formed by underground rivers and streams and sometimes the ground over them gives way, either by a small hole maybe from a root, being eroded by rain or just simply a weak place in the ground. Ever seen those news stories about cars in Florida falling into a lime sink that appears over night during a rain storm? That's the same thing.
Still, I wuold take that book to someone that could tell you a little more about it. A mueseum might be a good place to start. Maybe a Library could be of some help also.
