Hmmm...
If it is a physical phenomenon then it should have a physical effect. Try moving discrete columns of smoke. Even the slightest change in heat or airdensity should disturb this. Alternatively, try moving excited plasma, such as you fin in a neon lamp, ot one of those novelty plasma effect displays. Such plasmas are very susceptible to changes in magnetic fields.

If you go to a gag and gift store you could easily find one of those glass globes with visible currents of electricity on the glass.

I'm sure if you could get good with trying to make the electric currents do cool stuff inside the globe. The static electricity can't get past the glass so you should be safe from electrical shock.. You never know though
