He's disturbing as hell! Everytime I look at it, I get the feeling he's watching me. He probably WOULD walk out of that pic. Christ! Anyone agree? Post responses!

Here's a close-up:

I wonder if the person that owns that painting now has it hanging in their house somewhere? I personally wouldn't. It would creep me out every time I'd walk past it, for sure.

Bill Stoneham's his name-here's a good link.

Like I said in my "Black Limos" post in the Urban Legends board, awesome avatar. I hate eyeless porcelin dolls. Good job.
EDIT: I go to reply and two posts go. Posters on crack. JK
But yeah, I look at it now and I keep looking around my room-my lamps broken and my only light's the computer screen. And my room's small. This inspires me for one of my stories.

BTW here's one of deaths in my development story. Details on the plot will come if I'm PM'd about it. Comments?

This fundamentalist Christian woman is in her room with a nail filer on the top of her dresser. There's this entity that looks like a moving shadow and like a vampire, is killed by sunlight. But it can possess inanimate objects and with more energy, people(but not animals) and if in one, as long as the object isn't broken and it doesn't come out, it lives. So here's what happens:
Her porcelin doll she is proud of gets possessed. It moves only a slight bit and grabs the nail filer while her back is turned. The movement is slow, but not slothly. Just kinda jerky. She walks towards the dresser and it jumps and shoves the nail filer in her face. The Shadow(I'll call the entity that for now...no name ATM) ditches the doll, causing it to fall to the ground and have the face shattered. Meanwhile, the lady stumbles backwards, blind in one eye and tumbles down the stairs, ending up in her living room. She walks unstablily(is that a word?) and crashes into her personal glass shelf of crystal animals causing them to fall(and the shelf) on top of her, glass everywhere. She crawls and gets a bunch in her palms/legs/arms and goes towards the piano. The Shadow now possesses a Sacred Heart Jesus Statue(outstreched hands, painted in color, with the Sacred Heart) and since it's next to the piano, moves one of it's arms and rips out piano wire. Delusional, the lady rests her back against the statue, wanting only death. It now holds the wire in both hands, like when people hold a rope before strangling someone and slowly moves the wire back, eventually decapitating her, all while the statue looks down with the expressionless, original face.

That's how I remember it. Not the best description, but I'm lazy and not pulling up Microsoft Word. Feedback(included in an on-topic post, of course).

Thank you for the links :0)

Thanks for the ava compliment.

THE ORIGINAL EBAY TEXT THAT ACCOMPANIED THE PAINTING

WHEN WE RECEIVED THIS PAINTING, WE THOUGHT IT WAS REALLY GOOD ART. A " PICKER " HAD FOUND IT ABANDONED BEHIND AN OLD BREWERY. AT THE TIME WE WONDERED A LITTLE WHY A SEEMINGLY PERFECTLY FINE PAINTING WOULD BE DISCARDED LIKE THAT. ( TODAY WE DON'T !!! ) ONE MORNING OUR 4 AND 1/2 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER CLAIMED, THAT THE CHILDREN IN THE PICTURE WERE FIGHTING, AND COMING INTO THE ROOM DURING THE NIGHT. NOW, I DON'T BELIEVE IN UFOS OR ELVIS BEING ALIVE, BUT MY HUSBAND WAS ALARMED. TO MY AMUSEMENT HE SET UP A MOTION TRIGGERED CAMERA FOR THE NIGHTS. AFTER THREE NIGHTS THERE WERE PICTURES.THE LAST TWO PICTURES SHOWN ARE FROM THAT 'STAKEOUT'. AFTER SEEING THE BOY SEEMINGLY EXITING THE PAINTING UNDER THREAT, WE DECIDED, THE PAINTING HAS TO GO.PLEASE JUDGE FOR YOURSELF. --- BEFORE YOU DO, PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING WARNING AND DISCLAIMER. ----WARNING: DO NOT BID ON THIS PAINTING IF YOU ARE SUSCEPTIBLE TO STRESS RELATED DISEASE, FAINT OF HEART OR ARE UNFAMILIAR WITH SUPERNATURAL EVENTS. BY BIDDING ON THIS PAINTING, YOU AGREE TO RELEASE THE OWNERS OF ALL LIABILITY IN RELATION TO THE SALE OR ANY EVENTS HAPPENING AFTER THE SALE, THAT MIGHT BE CONTRIBUTED TO THIS PAINTING. THIS PAINTING MAY OR MAY NOT POSESS SUPERNATURAL POWERS, THAT COULD IMPACT OR CHANGE YOUR LIFE. HOWEVER, BY BIDDING YOU AGREE TO EXCLUSIVELY BID ON THE VALUE OF THE ARTWORK, WITH DISREGARD TO THE LAST TWO PHOTOS FEATURED IN THIS AUCTION, AND HOLD THE OWNERS HARMLESS IN REGARD TO THEM AND THEIR IMPACT, EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED.------------ NOW THAT WE GOT THIS OUT OF THE WAY, ONE QUESTION TO YOU EBAYERS. WE WANT OUR HOUSE TO BE BLESSED AFTER THE PAINTING IS GONE, DOES ANYBODY KNOW, WHO IS QUALIFIED TO DO THAT? THE SIZE OF THE PAINTING IS 24 BY 36 INCHES, SO IT IS RATHER LARGE. AS I HAVE HAD SEVERAL QUESTIONS, HERE THE FOLLOWING ANSWERS. THERE WAS NO ODOR LEFT BEHIND IN THE ROOM. THERE WERE NO VOICES, OR THE SMELL OF GUNPOWDER, NO FOODPRINTS OR STRANGE FLUIDS ON THE WALL. TO DETER QUESTIONS IN THIS DIRECTION, THERE ARE NO GHOSTS IN THIS WORLD , NO SUPERNATURAL POWERS, THIS IS JUST A PAINTING, AND MOST THESE THINGS HAVE AN EXPLANATION, IN THIS CASE PROBABLY A FLUKE LIGHT EFFECT. I ENCOURAGE YOU TO BID ON THE ARTWORK, AND CONSIDER THE LAST TWO PHOTOGRAPHS AS PURE ENTERTAINMENT, AND PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THEM INTO CONSIDERATION, WHEN BIDDING. AS WE THINK IT IS A GOOD IDEA TO BLESS ANY HOUSE, WE STILL WELCOME INPUT INTO THAT PROCEDURE.

This auction is nearing the end. I want to thank the more than 13000 people that took the time to look at this image on Ebay. I appreciate the more than 30 suggestions, that I received regarding blessing the house, exorcising and cleansing. 7 e-mails reported strange or irregular events taking place, when viewing this image. And I will relay two suggestions made by the senders. First not to use this image as the background on the screen, and second not to display this image around juveniles or children. Last not least, thanks for appreciating the art as well.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The reactions to viewing the painting are varied and strange, people report of feeling ill and passing out, having strange visitors in the night, children crying in horror when seeing the pictures and some people are even too afraid to look at the pictures.

The strange light on the painting as seen in the pictures displayed on Ebay.com. could have been achieved by various camera tricks or just by shining a red light on the painting. Very simply done. NO the painting is not genuinely haunted.

Hands Resist Him eventually sold for $1,025.00 - first bid was $199.00 - it had a total of 30 bids. I would imagine with the popularity of this painting that it would be worth a lot more now, not merely for its value as a painting but for its value as the now famous "Haunted Ebay Painting".

Ghost Ship
In February, 2000 the sudden appearance of a rather strange painting with the accompanying title of "Haunted Painting" made it's debut on Ebay.com. Of course a title like this is going to attract attention and it's still discussed to this day whether the painting is genuinely haunted or not. Even stranger is the reactions that the general public had when viewing the photos of the painting.

The artist is Bill Stoneham, the painting title is "Hands Resist Him".
You can visit his website at Stoneham Studios.
Bill tells of how he painted Hands Resist Him in 1972, the boy in the picture being himself, the hands being other lives, the windows/door being a thin veil between waking and dreaming with the small doll like girl being the guide through.

Bill does not know how his painting ended up abandoned as described by the Ebay.com seller, but he does know a gallery owner where the painting was originally displayed and sold at, and a Los Angeles Times critic, who reviewed the show, were both dead within one year of the painting being shown.

I looked into this painting awhile ago, I was curious about it and I managed to get an email from a website to buy a print of it. This was like over a year and a half ago, so I can't exactly remember who the guy was, I believe it was the new owner. Anyway I emailed him about possible prints and he emailed back and said for a 24" by 36" print it would be like US$350. If it was the guy who owns it now, he'd be making good money on it. Like I said, it was ages ago and I didn't go through with the purchase anyway. A print just isn't the same.

And I'm not sure if the guy told me this or I read it on a site, so I don't know if it's true, but from what I can recall the current buyer is an art dealer and he keeps the painting in his basement.

Looking at the version above, i didn't feel wierd or anything, however the picture of it on the artist's website, where the colors are lot more pronounced made me feel a great deal of pressure on my chest.

Odd

hey all..
cool painting for sure ...I have had to do some overnight work in offices that were decorated with some weird abstract art that was disturbing when viewed alone, in an empty building at 3:00 am .....I am still working on this one(picture enhancement) but yes I see it clearly....now as far as the E-Bay disclaimer goes ....that is a rather clever way to add value to the painting ...anyone agree?.....just wanted to throw that out there as well....B

indeed it could be mass hysteria. We could all be feeling funny about the painting simply because other people have said they are and we're imagining it

I see nothing amiss with the painting. It is a rather brilliant display of the imagination, but I see no way for it to be haunted. Perhaps it was the nature from which it was painted, in viewing the unknown, and people pick up on this feeling? Perhaps it the room had been well lit and all the figures inside were illumnated it wouldn't give people a fear of it? I think it really is a nice painting, but don't see anything to it. I could compare it to an old carnival carosel painting that I have, which is in my childrens' room now. When I was small my cousins would swear that the children in the picture changed positions, but I never saw such a thing.

Here's a pic of it. It's a cute photo really...

Yeah, wouldn't doubt mass hysteria. Not to mention claims that those who saw it in person fainted, had weird things happen etc. Get people a bit paranoid.

I don't find anything amiss; it's a normal painting, just gives off an eerie, unsettling vibe. If that made any sense whatsoever

Is that like a vague face or what? What the hell IS that?

I love "The hands resist him" It's so creepy looking. I just like to sit and study it for a minute or so every time I see it. The girl is what really creeps me out. She is an eyeless porcelain doll, and porcelain dolls creep me out bad enough with eyes. (shudders)

That is a cute pic. Makes me think of Mary Poppins for some reason.
