Its utterly digusting that Parents and other relatives will allow a young child to grow up believe what she is, is normal. Parents allowing their kids to eat anything they want and when they want is very disterbing- it has help the world come to be a very obese plant- over 50% of the population are overweight or obese.
My parents monitered everything we ate- it had to be fruit juice- not fruit drink. It had to be water- no coke or cordial etc. No added sugar to our cereal- Ricebubbles and milk (If we where lucky, maybe some honey, and the milk was skim).
We also had to participate in other extra criculam activities - what ever we wanted from dance to karate to touch footy to netball and swimming and walking- anything to get as moving and active.
And my parents wherent the richest when i was growing up.
We had resiticions on our eating habits and i look back and thank my mum for that. I am now a very health and fit and active adult and i look at children who are allowed to eat maccas 3 times a week along with dessert after dinner, filling up on lolies and sugary drinks and it makes me sick how much sugar and preservitives they are eating.
I will never allow my child to get obese. I will educate, set guidelines and provide support- just like my mum did. No one in my imediate family are overweight or have any health related sicknesses- and its because of our lifestyle.
We all have choices to make, and its based on the sducation you revieve.
I am sickened by these parents who obviously didnt care that they where ruining this little girls life, who had no idea why she was they was she is.

It didnt click exactly how fat 400lb was until I watched the vid. That is really sad, her parents will have her death on their hands if they dont stop feeding her the way they do, She is just 7 and at this rate she may be lucky to double that age especially at the current expansion rate of her weight.

Jesus, that is sickening. The parents must’ve been continually stuffing her with high calorie foods.
You know, it’s like when you watch these TV programs about obese children/adults and they always say that they eat just the same amount of food as normal people. Until you see exactly what diet they’re on and it’s always like two bottles of cola and 15 bars of chocolate and that’s just for breakfast!

Exactly. This poor girl was on Maury, and they (the parents and Maury) said that she always ate 2 meals a day; breakfast being cereal, a snack, and dinner being, like, vegetables or soup. They made it seem like she just magically gained weight, when her parents (and probably Maury) were really just covering up the fact that they were just overfeding her

I hope she loses some weight

I'm sure she has some sort of medical condition,
And I'm sure they can afford for her to see doctors that are trying to help them with all this.
But I think that Junk Food is a horrible horrible thing to give kids. But It;s easy, al you have to do is pop open a bottle of pringles or open up a candy bar, and of course, it tastes good, and with kids being so picky, it's easier to just give them something that they'll eat rather than trying to convince them to eat something healthy.

The kicker for me was when they said she weighed 200lbs when she was 5. Then she gained over 200 more pounds in just TWO YEARS!!! WTF are these parents doing????
How did they see her at 5 and not start doing something then? Did she like never see a doctor for anything until she was 7???
The parent's obviously didn't give a sh** about their kid until she got some media attention. Then they were probably like "Oh, damn. We look like a couple of ass holes!"
Lazy pricks should be sterilized to ensure they do not have the responsibility of parenting a child again. They CLEARLY can't handle it...

I don't doubt that she may have a medical condition, but I really don't think a 7 year old is going to weigh 400 lbs without the parents feeding her when she wants and what she wants. It is a crime to see kids treated this way. The parents should be cited for neglect for not doing more than trying to get their 15 minutes of fame on the Maury show. They should have sought help for this kid a long time ago. Even if she does lose the weight she is most likely going to have lasting health problems the rest of her life. I feel for the poor girl.

I hold the philosphy if you feed a child when they are hungry and let them stop when they are satisfied (when they start to lose interest in their food take the plate away), they eat a healthy amount. Their bodys will naturally tell them what the right amount to eat is. the parents job is to offer them healthy choices, and foster healthy eating habits in the children. I doubt these parents were consistently offering healthy choices, and they most likely started off by making her eat, whether she was hungry or not. So I highly doubt she was eating "what she wants when she wants" to begin with. Sure, at the end. But this type of thing is progressive, and I bet it started the moment she emerged from the womb with a cow's milk based formula thickened with cereal on a regluar feeding schedule.

the force feeding and poor diet is a possablity along with rush eating. Studies show that if u eat a meal in less then ten minutes you are more likely to gain weight because the body feels rushed it doesnt have time to digest so stores the food (as in fat) for a better time. So if you do that three times daily with no exercise you gain weight.
I also noticed she was in front of the tv alot get rid of it. get her out get her exercising. I know i shouldnt talk being overweight myself and eating dinner in front of the tv but how did i get this way? By doing those things when i was young and once you form a habit especaily when you are young its hard to break any one would understand that

Wow... that's very disturbing. She is what she is which is obese. I think that her parents were very aware of that but did not try to counteract with what is right for her. It all roots back to the parents. They should set the example for their child, even if it means a lifestyle change for themselves. Trash the damn Hersheys and buy an apple. Put down the remote and pick up a bicycle. Detour buffets on weekends and one-way your family to a campsite. Throw your kids outside to play and make sure they come back dirty. Kids need to be kids, not the twinky patrol! Being ACTIVE ACTIVE ACTIVE and showing your child that there is more to life than the living room would probably give her a better chance of stabilizing or slowing down her weight gain. I just hope it's not too late for her. Hopefully she'll walk again and hopefully her parents will educate themselves on how to accommodate her so she can be a kid again.

I have five children. We never could afford cable, internet, or video games for our first 3 kids. They learned to play outside running, riding bikes ( secondhand) and even if we could have afforded it we refussed to chauffeur them all over the place. Now we are somewhat better of (financially) but we are doing basicaly the same thing with our two youngest who are 7 and 9. They are all as fit and healthy as can be. (and beautiful to in my book.

Yeah I can blame the parents. Even if it is a medical condition they should have done something about it before she was 5 years old and weighing in at 200 lbs. Something should have clicked in their heads back then. Now they have let her DOUBLE her weight in 2 years without seeking help for her. And I don't think the Maury Povich show is seeking help. I do medical transcription and I called the doc I work for earlier today. Granted he is an orthopaedist but he is still a doctor. I aked if there was a condition that having the coniditon alone would cause that sort of thinkg in a child. He said that even if her metabolsim was screwed up She had to be eating very wrong to get to that weight at her age. If your child has something wrong with them then it is your responsibility to get them to the doctor. And a 200 lb 5 year old should have went to the doc instead of the tv studio. So yeah, im my opinion, I blame the parents for this one. But that is just my opinion.

I remember seeing this girl and her mother on Maury a couple of years ago. It just really sickens me that they stil haven't done anything to help her. I have agreed the whole time that I'm sure there is something medically wrong, but it should have been dealt with a long time ago and like I said earlier there has to be bad eating habits going here. Her mother said on The Maury show that she felt bad when the child cried for food so she gave it to her anyways. And to me both the lack of medical treatment and the bad eating habits make for bad parenting.
