Hi im new on here but i thought i would share this little story with you.I live in glasgow scotland and back in 1956 my dad bought a house tenement (sandtone victorian house when he got married and started a family in in with my mun.
Around about 1968 my dad was sleeping with me and my brother in each of his arms after working around the clock in his new job.
A fire started in the backroom and quickly spread into the hallway and consumed the front door, my mum was visting her sisiter so wasnt in the house.
My dad recalls someone tugging him on the shoulder to wake him up and when he woke the room was full of smoke so my dad choking dragged me and my older brother to the floor and over to the window as we couldnt go out the front door as it was in flames.
My dad took us onto the window ledge and eased us along to the next house and woke them up much to their surprise three smoke covered people standing at your window at 2 in the morning 1 story up in a tenemant must have freaked them.
Anyway after a visit to hospital we were all given the all clear.
We moved house in 1977 and the building got marked for demolition so some of the local boys used the building as a hidout or den for drinking and smoking but the strange thing is we all got talking one day and the boys started telling me about the house above the shop that they had seen the ghost, i nvere let on that that was my old house. But they told me that they were all sitting drinking beer when an old man in a top hat and tails wearing a silver watch on a chain walked straight by them and through the wall at this point they all freaked and ran out of the building.
The year before my dad had bought the house the old man that used to live in it died and his body wasnt discovered for 7 weeks.
He was avery dappere errol flynn sort of character going by the folkt that knew him and he always wore his top hat and silver watch.
When wqe moved house no more than 100 metres away i started to hear a ticking sound coming from the walls or should i say near the walls of my room and then i would hear it in other parts of the house, we had pest control in to check if it was some sort of beetle but there was nothing like that in the house and it was given the all clear.
It stayed with me for 20 years and everyone i know heard it even my girlfriends at the time.
I often wonder if the old man was watching over me for some reason.I could eventualy ask the ticking to stop and it would.
My brother eventualy told me that he used to hear it in the old house but when we moved my brother got his own home and it stayed with me.
I wonder if anyonelse has had this sort of thing happen.
To be honest there is no rational expalnation for what was happening absolutely none

Audible residue from the old man's ticking watch?
That's an incredible story. I believe it.

You stated the house was moved, maybe the ghost of this old man resented it.
Your guess is as good as mine. Interesting story on audible residue. I remember sitting in my kitchen at night and hearing an entire conversation between a man and a woman.
It started out at a normal tone, then it seemed one would get angry and then they would argue.

It was the same audio "loop" played over and over. thumbsup.gif

But the thing is though i could interact with this sound asking it to stop and start at certain times it woild get louder at certain times of the night just to let me know it was there and sometimes i got so annoyed with it i would go to sleep with my headphones on

Hi Paul

Wow, what a great story - has anyone else talked of the ghost other than the boys' in the place waiting for demolition? You never actually saw him yourself did you? It's great that your girlfriend heard it at the same time on occasions too and also your wife in your current property - you can rule out that you had imagined it if others have heard it too.

Sorry to hear about your wife by the way.

Plenty of people validated it even my dad who WAS a skeptic he isnt anymore, i never did see the ghost but i felt it prescence everyday for twenty years, i could feel it like it was standing next to me everytime i was at home.
As i said earlier there is no other explanation for it other than something not of this world.
Strange thing also happened on my wee boys birthday on march 16th st patricks day.
I went into my bedroom were my wee boy was playing with his new toys and i walked into the strongest scent of fresh cut flowers you could ever smell, i wlked through them and stopped and walked back into them again.
My wife always loved fresh flowers in the house but i havent had any in the house since she died and there are no scented things in the house or garden for that matter

My closest friend had this after her Dad passed away, he smoked cigars and she could smell them in her own home, where no one smoked at all, other people could too - she said it was so strong and unmistakable. I'm sure the flower scent was your wife's way of letting you know she was still around you both.

Thozzman, I don't know why I find this creepy! What do you think the explanation for this might be. Why would an "audio residue" loop?

WOW that is quite an interesting story Paul. I would say that man who passed on, was attached to where he lived and wanted to be acknowledged, so used the only auditory means that defined him, being the watch. Very often people who die will become attached to the home or the people, or both. I believe we cannot rationalize something that is not rational, to us. He was a very dignified proud man, so stuck around to prove it..The reason he chose you in my opinion and a few others, is because he knew you would hear it, others may not. Great story thanks for sharing.

Three points:

1. Forgot to welcome silverhalo to the boards, so a big welcome to Silverhalo!
2. To spiridion, It's sounds creepy but after hearing this for years it's become second nature. I haven't a clue as to why the conversation would loop. Interesting question.

Very interesting that you could interact with the ticking noise Silverhalo, that shows that not all spirits are mere imprints of past events in the atmosphere, but actual thinking entities. thumbsup.gif

I'm simply trying to explain why you might hear noises, no need to throw insults because you would rather someone tell you it's a ghost than give you a logical explanation....

Very common on this site, people ask for your opinion...but then freak out when you don't tell them what they want to hear....this childish behavior makes me question the age group posting on this site.

Sometimes it's hard to interpret tone through emails, posts, blogs, etc. Especially when you don't know the person in real life and you have no way of knowing their personality. Which is why people came up with smileys and such. This way people know when to take things as a joke and when you're serious. I misunderstood your question as getting a dig in at Paul by calling him crazy for hearing things. Apparently a few people on here took it that way because they responded the same way.

Hello,

Our first flat that myself and my wife bought would on occasion really smell strongly of cigars or cigarettes, normally in the kitchen. I commented on this to the people upstairs and they said they didn't smoke, but the chap who used to live in our flat and had died in hospital, used to be a prolific smoker, so maybe it was him hanging around?

Its interesting though, as the house we are in now was one we bought off of the family when my grandmother (Nan) died last year, and on occasion we come home from having been out (or especially when we came back from a week away), there is a smell of a flowery air freshener she used to use.

Its nice as it makes you think she's still about, but it is strange.

I've not heard any sounds yet though, just aromas.

To be honest ive never believed that spirits are imprints of past events i have had too many experiences to prove otherwise but certainly with the ticking sound i could ask it s to stop and start as and when i wanted much to the amazement of my girlfriends and mates at the time but afater a while even most of them became accustomed to it when staying over.
Quite simply there was no other explanation for it other than something unnatural in our sense.
No gas pipes
No water pipes
No neighbours wandering around there house carrying a grandfather clock
No death watch beetles
No hidden acme ticking bomb behind the walls lol
The non believers can mock all they want but i know the truth as i lived it for twenty years amongst other who are close to me till this day
Oh and thanks for the welcome THOZZMAN
Much appreciated
Thanks
paul
