Hello all.

I was just wondering, whenever I have a cold or anyother kind of sickness I sleep quite a lot, which isn't very much like me. The wierd thing is, I always have nightmares. They aren't like normal nightmares either. Each time something really bad happens. People like my parents die, they leave me, the whole world explodes or I'm just all alone in the world with no one at all left.
When I wake up, I think I'm still in the dream and can get pretty freaky. People have told me it doesn't really seem like me when this happens. Does anyone else have these problems?

Hi One Eye. When we are sick, our body requires more sleep in order to repair itself. When you wake up and you are still in your dream, that is a sleep disorder that is most likely caused by the additional stress your body is under because of your illness. It is nothing to worry about. It is like you are sleepwalking. Just be aware that this might happen when you aren't feeling well and have others be prepared in case it does occur.

I've had some pretty wierd experiences when I was down with the flu. One time I felt as if my head was as big as a boulder, and was of equivalent weight! wacko.gif And sometimes when I was half-awake I'd get these wierd, abstract ideas which didn't make any sense but....but they kinda did make sense at the same time. Guess I'm not making much sense here.

When I've just got the common cold though, I don't usually dream much.

I get those all the time when I am laying in bed but not quite asleep. I think it is the subconscious kicking in... not sure though. I can make out most of it but sometimes it's like what the heck was that I was just thinking.

I get those weird thoughts, too when I am very sick. It is probably caused by the fever.

When I am sick my dreams aren't just nightmares, they're extremely gory and disturbing. I had this dream once, where there were 9 candles in a cabinet. (nine compartments, 3 rows of 3)I would watch them slowly melt into skulls. I had another one where i was tearing down a wall in my room, and rotten flesh started pouring out in big globs.

WOW when im sick I sleep good I never wake up during the night. I only had about 10 nightmares my hole life! I think they are scary, but the nxt day after I wake up I think they are atually pretty fun to me it's like being in a scary movie and you cant die! Most of my dreams are about things like UFOs the scariest one was when the sky had like this giant hole in it and it starts to get really windy. And you cant tell whats happening but all the people think the world is ending....... alien.gif w00t.gif

Yeah, these are common I think. They're called fever dreams, cause like BabyForrest said, the body and brain are in a sorry state of stress and generally confused. Makes for some sick dreams. I guess everyone has different fever dreams.... mine are generally the same. The end of the world. And it feels so damned wierd... like you, when I wake up I think I am still in the dream and tend to lash out at anyone who tries to console me.... thank god for NyQuil, eh?

Welcome to my world.

I dont dream, I have nightmares...and in all of them, it turns into a mass slaughterfest of some kind (incidentally, I'd like to compile the soundtrack to my nightmares...makes for quite interesting listening tongue.gif)

I can usually keep on going for long time when I am sick by sheer willpower; that is until my body says "that's enough!!!" And then I spend usually about 2 days in a state of constint half-dreaming.

I used to get these weird feeling when I was younger, only when I got sick. They are hard to describe, kind of like a feeling of helplessness, like someone else is contolling my destiny. Its almost as if i am a piece on a chess board and someone is taking giant boulders and smashing me with them...and at the same time someone else is controlling my movements on the board. I cant really describe them any better than that, but to this day i can still feel a shed of it when I think about it.
