I find my religion to be lots of fun, from drumming circles to rituals under a full moon or doing a little magic. Even the research and study I must do. It's all fun fun fun...
Anyone else think their religion is fun and exciting or do you think your religion should be more serous.

I love the idea of religion being fun. I have a youth pastor who makes everything more exciting, even learning about what could be the most boring topics ever. I mean, if that's the way to get people into the religion, I say go for it.

Religion doesn't really have to be fun. It serves one purpose and one purpose only and thats to tell us about God. You can have fun doing other things like football or something.

If people got into religion just because it was fun wouldnt that defeat the purpose?

I didn't get into my religion because it is fun. I got into it cause I found truth, the fun came later. It hasn't always been fun for me, but now it is.

Ultimately, no religion has any more evidence for its truthfulness than another, so the logical thing to do is pick whichever one appeals to you most, if any at all.

I'm undecided on religion myself at the moment, but I think I should read a bit more about Buddhism in the near future...

It depends on what you mean by "religion". Do you mean your faith and your willingness to believe in God or do you mean the sometimes ridiculous structure and regiment that was created by man in the name of the "church"? I feel the two are different at times. I take my faith and belief in God seriously, but yet it is comforting and sometimes fun. I cannot say the same about all aspects of organized religion.

Spirituality should bring you joy and fulfillment. The religion that you find suits you and is the avenue that gets you to that spiritual place should also bring you that same fulfillment. There may be unpleasant aspects of the belief that are difficult to understand but that isn't the same thing. I really don't understand people that think that it must be bleak and dour or you aren't doing it right. LOL!
Dig that drumming!

Not especially. Some people won't get into religion because they think it's too boring. So they go find something that makes religion fun, but also learn about it in the process.

Religion... religious practices... they are all what we make of them. We are the ones who make them either fun or somber. We get out of them what we put into them.

Depends on your definition of fun. If you mean joyous and exciting, then yes. If you mean fascinating, absorbing and a constant challenge, then yes. If you mean intellectually and philosophically absorbing, then yes.
Of course, not only your religion, but your whole life, and all your chosen life experiences, should be fun. If they are not, then examine your life, figure out why this is not so, and do something about it.
This includes clearly defining what you feel fun is, then setting life goals to achieve it.

LOL yes, but even a religion is boring, doesn't mean its teachings aren't correct. But I guess it wouldn't hurt to be fun and right at the same time.

My religion is my life. I have no choice but to accept what is given at the moment, fun or not. And pray to avert the unnecessary, and those that I am not ready to handle. Hopefully, I have the strength and courage to divorce myself from archaic, worn-out, tired beliefs and superstitions. Through my God's grace, everything is possible. Mostly, my religion is fun, busy and tiring, but I'm alive; therefore, I have nothing to really complain about. I have been given so much. And I know that one day, I will have to let them all go...

I find my religion to be full of wisdom and interesting, but not particularly fun. My religion has some magic in it. The only magic I know is divination. I haven't found that to be particularly fun. Even the magic I've read about doesn't seem to be fun. I didn't pick this religion because I thought it would be fun. I picked it because I thought it was true.

As a recent convert, this year's Easter Vigil, perhaps I am biased; but, to me I find religion satifies something inside of me that nothing else ever has. Not to say I was never happy but Catholicism has brought peace to me in a way I never knew before. Back on topic, not only do I believe religion should bring joy and pleasure but that it must it celebrated correctly.

Should religion be fun?
I would hope so. After all, we've got thousands of years of bloody history to prove what anal retentive about it all, will get us.
Then again, some people are so happy being miserable, they know no other way to live their life than to serve it as penance.

Yup I'm having fun. But then, there is no religious ritual, there are no rules, and each person chooses their own path in Deism. Deists believe that we should all live life to the full... so, in effect, to be a Deist, the way to practise your religion is to have a good time, do exciting things, never allow your life to be dull, and make everything interesting. If something isn't interesting/exciting/fun/enjoyable then why do it?

If my religion wasnt joyful and fun then I wouldn't have an incentive to practice it. Religion without humor is no religion at all.

I'm a Taoist. Don't get me wrong, I like Taoism. I suppose it kind of depends on what you consider to be fun. For some people maybe it is fun. I think Taoism explains a lot. I think it is a good way to live. Most importantly I think it is true. Religion is just not something I practice for fun. To me religion doesn't have to be fun. I have other ways of having fun.

Doesnt taoism say that if the way cant be laughed at then it wouldnt be tao? Also taoism is one of the most fun religions of all time. Chuang tzu had an awesome sense of humor. I have the book of chuang tzu and it is witty and insightful.

Yes, it does say that. I don't think that it is talking about having fun though. I think that is talking about the way some people view the Tao. They laugh at it because they don't understand it and they think it is foolishness.
I read most of Chuang.tzu. I found it on the Internet. I don't remember it being all that funny. I think Chuang.tzu made some good points though. I liked it.
It depends on what you mean by fun. If you think it is fun to read good philosophy that makes you think then yes it's fun. If you think reading inspirational literature is fun then it is fun. I like Taoism, I just hadn't really thought about it being fun. I suppose it is fun in a way. If you look at it that way then any religion can be fun.

It's a very subtle sort of humor.
I remember reading a story of a man who upon recieving enlightenment (I suppose it came to him Fed Ex) burst into laughter. The memory of that story stirs something in the fiber of my being, that or I've eaten too much fiber, I can never remember which.
Jokes aside. This thread reminds me of the painting "The Vinegar Tasters."

I dunno, I picked what I did because I think it's right. And it's a somber practice, silent and serious.
However, that doesn't mean that the group of people I worship with are sour, dour, and gray. They aren't. After we complete a meeting (aka church) we do have fun. The kids play around, adults taste each others newest dish (we have a thing for potluck after church, it's sort of our communion), we chat, play catch up with each other, sometimes if the weather is nice, volleyball or an impromptu game of soccer ensues. So hmmm, my worship isn't "fun" per se, it's pretty serious. But the people I worship with are fun socially and really casual too. Just nice, simple, happy folks.
