I was thinking of purchasing a game like WoW or Star Wars Galaxies type genre, I would prefer it to be free to be online, would be even better if the entire set up was free (like Second Life, but with purpose). I've heard mixed reviews on every game site I've been too.

I'm basically looking for a game with free roam (like GTA) free will (kill or help whoever I choose) and with customized characters/abilities/whatever....

Any Ideas?

I'm sorry if these are all stupid questions but I have never played a game on PC before, I'm actually still playing games on the original Playstation (when I play).

Guild wars, or anarchy online mabye

runescape is free and is loads of fun

Guild Wars seems to be the more popular choice...but give Project Entropia a try...it's free to download and roam an entire planet. The only down-side is that you have to spend real-world dollars to convert to PED (Project Entropia Dollars) to spend on armour, rifles, crafting and other fun stuff.

silkroad online ( slow till level 20 then good PvP content and really cool PvP based jobs where they can hunt each other make alot on youre own or by steeling)

ultimate baseball online (baseball game where you make you're own player)

voyage centry online (pirate sailing game very cool its like GTA in free roaming but you cant steel ships just whats in them)

freestyle basketball (not as good as the baseball one but its fun)

To be honest, I have yet to play a free MMORPG that was anything near 70% satisfying. If you like that "free roaming, kill or help whoever I want" type thing, only one game comes to mind, and it's a Pay2Play game. Yeah, I know "everyone" says this, but it's World of Warcraft. I use to hate the game untill I actually got passed level 9(LOL). On PVP servers you can pretty much roam around fighting random people or helping your side defend themselves or gank other players...

Now, if you INSIST you want Free2Play, I'd say find a private server of Ragnarok Online. That's a REALLY fun game. Normally it's P2P, but you can find LEGAL private servers. You can also find private servers for WoW by the way. Here are a few other DECENT free MMORPGs:
