I believe it will happen simply because it is prophesied. Eventually the powers will shift. Religion will be done away with, and it's inherents will be persecuted.
Well, some theories consider that all time is now. So that that day that is prophesied, is occurring already. The dual or mirror universe theory, if you will. So, perhaps that religion at it's current strength persecutes in the name of faith, is manifesting the dual balance by being itself persecuted for resorting to such measures, as persecution so as to send a message that is claimed to be spiritual in nature.
think conflicts arise when people defend what they believe, as an aspect of who they are. One has to be taught to hold faith in religious mythology. That's why it is said everyone is first born an Atheist. No god. And then, when the lessons begin, instructing what is an acceptable and moral behavior it is hardwired from infancy as the meaning behind the living keeps perpetuating itself in explaining why everything is occurring as it is. The instruction as to what it means to be an individual, living right in a world of diversity, that is outside our control.
And so then the other myth begins. Universal morality. Given the limited consciousness of the human condition, it's a bold boast, surely. However, what one accepts as moral for them, is what judges all the worlds people, in direct comparison. We are what we know. And for some, others not believing as they do is threatening. Because their living that standard, even if not in a preaching or proselytizing mode, is the example of what that faith means to them. And they then enter the world, bearing that point of view. So someone secure in who they are, aren't threatened by others living as they see fit. And trespass, well that's not necessarily a matter of morality, but a matter of personal sovereignty. No one has a right to take their life and tell me I need comply to it's standards and practice.
I respect someone's faith in jesus. I do not respect their believing I need to hear of him, so as to be better for it, because I am judged to be lacking, without it, now.
Have you heard about jesus?
I don't care about jesus. And if that's all you know how to say, introducing yourself to this stranger, please! Keep walking anonymously by me.

People praise their faith as being tolerant and providing the backbone for freedom. But often I've found that many that think that believe in the construct only in so much as the world view is in keeping with their personal comfort level.
So, in effect it's a , you are entitled to be free as long as I can handle it. It's why this article found a reason to see print. Straight christians viciously, violently opposed to gays living their life. Because, in a straight personal opinion, that can not be allowed, in jesus name.
