I read right here, that town of Centralia is haunted. Is that true? I'm not sure what to believe, but I heard a few miners lost their lives when the fire started to burn. Never the less, I find Centralia pretty interesting place. Any thoughts on it being haunted?

Hi MoonPrincess..bit of a late reply i know happy.gif Anyway...it would certainly seem that this place has a few restless(mebe playfull) spirits still in residence..at least, the article implies as much..other than that i have never visited the place, so can only take other peoples word for it.

PS..Interesting nonetheless thumbsup.gif

It is an interesting and fantastic story – and it might be haunted with that tragedy.
Silent Hill (the game that was inspired by this place was awesome – real creepy – the film was poor though)

Ooooh, I was there in college! It is a totally freaky ghost town, with smoke coming out of the ground at various places. Apparently the whole town had to be evacuated because of the mine fire. There is no way to put the fire out as the coal will keep fueling the fire. There are places where whole houses fell through the ground too. It's a wierd site - people painted all sorts of cryptic things on houses, like "gate to Hell". It seems like a good setting for a haunting for me!

WOW I agree. I think there are thousands of towns "haunted" and I do believe spirits are all around us. whether we see or feel them or not. Documenting them is a form of validation but certainly there seems to be no way to remove those tortured souls and allow them to move on.. dontgetit.gif

If any town ever had a hsunted feel to it I would say this would be it. I read about it last year and was planning a trip up there this year but I am still not up to traveling yet. eh, there is always next year.

And yeah, the Silent Hill games are awesome!!!

This was an interesting story....From reading the story, and looking at the pictures, it's hard to believe that this once thriving town has been turned into a ghost town....

A friend of mine told me about Centralia about 6 years ago or so. Here is an excellent site with a ton of photos -- Centralia

Technically, Centralia isn't a ghost town. About 40 people (out of thousands) still live there. Although, it does look like a ghost town. I actually forgot about this place until I came across this post. Now I want to go there. original.gif Also, it is predicted that the fire will burn for at least 250 years, and that the neighboring town of Ashland will probably incur the same fate as Centralia.

Ya know, the more I think about it, the more surreal it is. Who could ever have imagined?
