I'd like to find out if anyone out there loves to crochet as much as I do. I'd love to hear about the crochet work you've done. :-)

This is exactly like one of the blankets I made recently. I love to do ripple blankets. (click on link to see photo)

Hi Wolfwoman:

Do you happen to have any photos of your work or a link(s) to something similar to what you've done?

I don't crochet, but my mother is absolutely insane for it. I remember her crocheting at my Little League games.
Crazy old woman.
Anyway, here's a link with some of her 'creations'. Some are crocheted, some apparently were thought up by Beaker and Bunsen in the Muppet's Lab.

I really like her blue and white ripple afghan, and I absolutely love the colors she used in the crocheted lapghan. yes.gif

They're coming out with new yarn all the time. I went to a crochet gettogether held once a month, and I saw a new beaded yarn which I think is beautiful. They had a hot pink cardigan made with this beaded yarn, which is on my "Project" List. grin2.gif

Trust me, I know they are coming out with new stuff all the time. My Mom had me move her "craft supplies" -- read 16 metric tons of fabric and about 7 dumptrucks full of yarn -- into her new "office" a couple of months ago.
Back is still sore. LOL.
But I will let her know someone liked her work. She will like that response better than my usual one: "What the hell is that?" LOL. Of course she usually shows me things like cloth fortune cookies and tied dyed white canvas shoes. I told her it is a good thing she is so close to going to the nursing home -- she's 51 -- cuz she has that "arts and crafts" thing down. rofl.gif

I crochet, but don't have any pictures of anything I've done right now. I don't have too much time for things lately. I like to do picture afghans.

Purplos, do you think there may be some online links with photos similar to the afghans you've made?

I can't find a picture of what I do. Think like a cross-stitch pattern where every stitch is a small granny square. Its a picture made up of whole, half, and even quarter squares.

Wow, I'd sure like to see that. From how you described it, it seems like really nice work. :-) I'll do some surfing and see if I can come up with a similar photo of what you're describing. If I didn't say it before....

I LOVE TO CROCHET!

Purplos, here are a couple pics of some picture afghans. Is this similar to what you make except the pictures are smaller?

I always wanted to learn to crochet or knit, but I seem to have this freaky inability to learn how. I'm left handed and the translation to left hand should be easy, but I can't seem to figure it out, I get all twisted up. hahaha

I do like like embroidery, smocking, cross stitch and I do a TON of woven bead working (peyote stitching of all kinds, netting, ndebele, and herringbone and wire working). I'd love to learn to tat or lace work---I seem to have an infinite amount of patience to sit and do fine tiny work for hours at a time.

I hope I won't offend anyone here, but ..........I HATE IT!.... I HATE IT I HATE IT I HATE IT! Crochet, nitting, sowing, all of it. Give me a pile of wood to chop anytime! Or power-tools...I love power-tools!

Anyhoo, that's not why I'm posting. My Grandma, blessed be her soul, was really good at crochet. She could make all kind of fancy stuff. When we were toddlers, she made us little bed-socks with really fancy patterns. The problem was that the holes of the pattern were big enough for my pinky-toes to go through & get stuck in. ALL THE TIME! And I couldn't get them off because they were laced up at the ankle & my small mind couldn't grasp knots just yet. So night after night I lay there helpless, a victim of advanced crochet-skills, with half of my toes sticking out, and it was so irritating! disgust.gif disgust.gif disgust.gif

So, if you ever plan on making little socks n'stuff, bear my tale of woe in mind and don't unadvertedly torture little children! Thank you very much! grin2.gif
MissMelsWell
hahahahha! I like power tools too.

It's hard to run an 18v cordless drill and watch TV at the same time though. So power tools are out when I'm being a couch potato. I substitute it with needle work, or ironing (ironing, the ONLY domestic chore I LOVE to do)
Lt_Ripley
wow isis you can do stuff like that ? I'm impressed ! thumbup.gif

I started picking it up after surgury. I made a 4'x3' solid green afgan of simple stiches. it is horrible , so sad looking in the way of I had no clue really other than a limited instruction manual that I didnt really understand. yet here it is 10 years later , throw around , covered people , loved by the dog ( bless his soul) , countless washings and the thing is solid like a rock.

I want to make another ! but need better instuction ! help ! send me somewhere easy ! happy.gif

I loved my tools. our garage got broken into - and all my hand tools , in a rolling craftsman stand , was stolen. 1200$ worth (there abouts) angry.gif don't have much now. I really miss my hand impact driver. great for getting out stripped screws , bolts , hard ones ect ..... couple taps with the hammer while twisting and tada ! My new dial torque wrench crying.gif I didn't even get to use it yet. even my compression tester !

it's just too much. excuse me while I compose myself.

cordless is nice but how's the torque? I hate sacrificing torque.

Yes, Isis - rather like those, but I tend toward more detailed work - like with shading and everything. I'm actually working on one of a castle right now for my eldest son. (slow going)

MissMel - I have tried so many times to get proficient at the 'bead weaving' stuff - peyote stitch, etc. I just can't do it. I am fond of using a bead loom, however.
MissMelsWell
double post.... boooooo
MissMelsWell
Peyote, both odd and even is something I'm really good at for some reason.

I'm in the process of making my former mother in law a bracelet, necklace and earring set that's all peyote and Swarovski open square crystals. It's going to be very sparkly and I'm thrilled with the way it's turning out. It's for her 70th birthday. Her husband is taking her on a cruise and I wanted her to have something s****y to wear. original.gif (Dang set is going to take me almost 3 months and over 12,000 TINY little size #15 japanese delica beads sewn together one at a time)

I used to have a contract with a music store in Seattle and made Shekere's for them too. A lot of reagee and latin bands used to commision me to make these for them in a variety of sizes, colors, and styles. They're a percussion instrument that originated probably in Africa. The ones below aren't ones I made... most of mine were fairly intricately painted with leather dyes. My favorite one that I still have here at home is painted with a tribal style Gekko curled around the bottom and his tail and winds up the gourd embellished with jungle foilage. I'll take a picture of it sometime.

Edit: What? S w a n k y is filtered and peyote isn't? hahaha

Yeah, Turtleguy, it's fun. :-) A couple months ago a man asked me if I would teach him to crochet. He said he felt it would help him relax. So I taught him, and let him borrow a ball of yarn and a needle, and he worked on it while he watched TV at home. Well, he's got the first row chain down pat, but is struggling with the second row.

Gee, I love a guy who likes to try new things. happy.gif

Hi Nativechick! original.gif

I had no idea you used to crochet. Well, what did you make with the granny squares? I'm currently making a warm winter sweater with granny squares on the bottom part, and a dusty blue for the top part and arms.

Gee, I never thought I would do this, but i'm seriously thinking about starting a crochet group in the city where I live. I already go to a crochet group once a month but it's really kinda far away from where I live. Maybe we'll have luck with this new group.

Oh that's perfectly allright. I'm left handed and when I learned to crochet in the secnd grade, the lady had to sit across from me and teach me that way becasue she was right handed. I think we're all good at different things. I had a couple friends come over one time and one hit it off right away with crochet while my other friend really struggled, and after a while she was so frustrated and finally gave up. I told her that people are good at doing different things and that maybe she would excel at needlepoint or latch hooking. Or maybe this kind of craft was for her, and maybe she would be a great painter. original.gif

I love to crochet too! My Mom taught me ages ago. I always wanted to help with her projects so she taught me so I would leave her alone! laugh.gif

Right now I'm working on this Baby blanket. Although it's taking me forever because I have two kids who like to "help". I think the baby I'm making it for will be 16 by the time I'm done!

Do you know if there's a crochet group or a crochet class that you can join in the city where you live? That's a great way to not only get instruction and tips on crocheting, but it's also a way to meet some nice people. We meet up here once a month and it's a group of about 15 ladies. There's coffee and cookies, and two door prizes, and someone gets 30 or 40 % off something in that store at the end of the meeting. It's really fun!

You know what they say "Practice makes perfect." grin2.gif I'll ask one of my friends if she's done any more on her afghan, and she says "No." Then the next week I'll ask her "Did you do any more crocheting on your afghan and she says again "Nope." Lol Well, I know there are some excellent books out there on how to crochet. I think they would sell them at any craft shop and even at some of the large supermarkets.

For all you ladies struggling with crocheting or knitting I have to say "Gee, I wish I were better with a wrench, a drill, and power saw." laugh.gif

Hi i'm new and I absolutely love to crochet. I learned from a ladybird book at age 12, and i've been a happy hooker : ) ever since. I was surprised to find a forum for crochet here-but pleasantly so. Anyway i'm watching food network star! now and posting during the commercials, so as soon as I can i'll put pics of some of my (very humble, still amateur believe me) work.

Hi Hawthorne, and Welcome to our forum original.gif

Happy hooker, I like that. Lol laugh.gif

Well, I guess I'm a happy hooker too because I love to crochet. I'm working on a thick winter button-up sweater. The bottom part is the color "Desert", and the top part and sleeves are going to be "Dusty Blue." My last sweater I did was black on the top part and sleeves, and variegated purple, green, magenta on the bottom part.

A lot of people loved that one; in fact, my mom wants me to make her one for her birthday. I wore it this past winter and it sure kept me warm. No need for heaters with that sweater on. :-) Anyway, I made that one with black buttons, and I made a black purse with zipper to match. I bought a handle to crochet onto the purse.

Right now between jobs, I'm crocheting a couple eyelash scarves which are a favorte. One is variegated pink, turquoise, yellow; and the other one is various shades of orange and black for the month of October. I think that one is gonna turn out real nice. yes.gif
