Some of my most vibrant and realistic dreams have been where I have been fighting against the devil, or evil. I have even awakened while praying in the midst of casting out a demon from someone. (Very old school, too--I feel like an exorcist.) These are fierce battles, and I'm usually exhausted for the rest of the day.
During the dream, I'm sometimes overcome with a sense of futility, but I remember my faith and I keep fighting. These dreams seem so real to me! They usually terrify me and haunt me for days.
I can step back and say that these dreams are probably stemming from some internal turmoil or stress in my life. I just wondered how common dreams like this are. Have any of you experienced dreams where you’re fighting the devil? What do make of them?

I'm Agnostic, but have no interest in divinity of either the good or evil variety. I also find I do not dream of such. If I have conflict dreams they tend to include more mundane adversaries such as giant reptilian beasts or a rampaging sasquatch.
I suspect your dreams are these common conflict variety, but your faith (Christian?) has made demons and devils 'real' for you. Do you have conflict dreams with other adversaries as well?

I used to have evil dreams.....but now when I have them or I start to sense that I am having an evil dream....I just automatically start says...."go away in the name of jesus" over and over and over again until the evil has gone away.
It works!

When I was very young, I had a dream where I was physically wrestling a strange monster that appeared to be 100 times stronger than me, but I was holding my own (even with a noticeable sense of futility).
My mom has dreams ALL THE TIME where she fights what she explicitly identifies as "Demons."
She's of Catholic background, and her only son openly turning Atheist about a year ago may have affected her somewhat on a subconscious level.
(It is however possible that my openness about my differing belief has had NO such effect... Which would be the preferred state of things.)

omg you must be jesus v2.0!
Not really, I looked up what Satan meant in the context of dream interpretation and this is what I found.
QUOTE
Satan
Seeing or interacting with the devil in your dreams may have several different meanings and the interpretation depends on the details of the dream. However, it almost always points to something negative and disturbing in your personality, daily life, or environment. Carl Jung called such dark figures "the shadow" and said that they represent the negative ego personality and qualities which are painful and regrettable. You may have dark thoughts or have engaged in negative actions and now are experiencing guilt, fear, and anxiety. Dream interpretations based on folklore say that seeing the Satan in your dreams may be a warning about poor health, and if the dream persists, you should get a physical checkup.

yes like 3 yrs ago i used to dream about such things. Once i dreamt i was fighting with the devil like in a duel with swords, anyway i killed him. Another time i dreamt that there was a demon and God ordered me to kill him, but i was too afraid of it and i just refused. The most dream which impressed me was when i dreamt of seeing 2 portraits, one of the devil and one of the virgin mary. The devil was just telling me that God doesnt care for me, and was all over all instigate me against God, Mary was just silent and she was crying and looking at me in a sorrowful way. But in my dream i wasnt caring for the devil's words. These dreams can really be frightful, but at least i never had such dreams again. I think its all about ur faith, i was very confused about my religion (christian) and i guess those doubts reflected in my dreams. However nowadays i dont call myself christian anymore, im more like a theist, i believe in One God but not any particualr religion, since for me its just a set of rules with different names. But anyway, my advice is u should question a bit ur current faith and see if u have doubts about ur religion, beliefs...

Lots of interesting ideas and comments. Yes, I'm Christian, so I see the symbolism stemming from that. I have had some health issues (not too serious), but right now my mom is in the hospital for her third week--she spent 8 days in ICU after surgery to remove part of her lung (cancer--those damn cigarettes) and we almost lost her twice. These dreams took place before this happened.
It could definitely be a result of guilt from some past deed that I regret. I never thought of that before.

Whatever the cause of your dreams, I hope your mom is ok after this stay in the hospital. I'll send my good thoughts her way.

Thanks, Leo. All good thoughts and prayers are welcome.
They are considering letting her come home (to my house) on Saturday, if her kidney tests look okay. (She is in renal failure, too. Poor lady--but she's a trooper!) We hope she will be with us for a little more.
The more I think about my dreams of this tumble with evil, the more I think it may be related to feelings of guilt. Hm. How do you go about forgiving yourself? That's the hard part, I guess.

I'm not Christian, but I've had battles with demons while sleeping. There was bothering me 3 nights in a row, and on the 3rd i got rid of it. It was during sleep paralysis, but also lucid dreaming and astral projection was involved. I found that physically wrestling with it was futile. How I finally repelled it was by taking part of it's energy and magnetically pushing it away. It was very intense.
What I make of it is it was a test. There were other parts to it such as a male voice instructing me on things, and a voice inside myself telling me to remember how to do it.

A few years ago I were chased by some evil entity. It looked human, it eventually caught up with me and I struggled to survive. Although I saw it up close I can't remember any facial features. It was much stronger than me, I felt I couldn't win by physical strength only. I also felt it was evil. I then noticed that there was a box on the wall behind it, with electrical circuits. With my last strength I managed to push one of his hands back into the box and when it touched the electrical circuits, his hand went aflame with a fooshing sound. At that same moment I woke up cause the humming sound of my computer suddenly stopped. The power in my flat was gone dead and I thought I had blown a fuse. But I soon found out that it was the whole house, then the whole building complex, the whole block and the whole town! When I went out I soon caught up with some people talking. I then found out that it was more than the town. It was the whole southern part of Sweden and east of Denmark! This happened in the same timeframe a few years ago when there was many large power black-outs all over the world. If this was just coincidence and synchronicity, then it was one hell of coincidence and synchronicity, since it was so perfectly timed with my dream.
Personally I believe dreams and astral travels are one and the same. So I possibly fought for my life on another plane of existence with some evil entity. I cannot explain how something that happens on that plane could spill over to ours. Also I'm not sure if I killed him. I'm not even sure if something like that can be killed. But I sure hope I fried the ****er real bad though. Haven't seen him again either and I can't say I miss him but it sure was an interesting dream, don't you think?

Keep up the good fight friend and remember that no evil can harm you if you keep faith.
I hope your mom comes out well and may God bless her.

I've had dreams with the devil in it. I always run away or try to fight him. The dream always leave me crying or drained of energy by the time it ends.

I had a dream once that the devil was at a church I went to in my dream,it was a fightening dream. I also at about the same time period had dreams about me and my family being in like a refugee camp, or a concentration camp. It was wrapped around the tribulation period. I think these might be an idea of what is coming soon, and that is the distruction of this world, the end time's.

Here is a thought
Why is it that only people who have been introduced to the devil, dream about him..
and those who have a tradition of evil tree spirits, dream of evil tree spirits, or goblins or whatever the ghoul happens to be in your locale.
Are these real entities or just a product of our imaginations...

Of course our traditions and beliefs affect our dreams. I think some dreams actually try to tell us something, and they use whatever imagry is available.
