Simple question.
What film/dvd have you watched reluctantly, or not expecting to enjoy, but which after viewing you thought to be rather excellent.
My pleasent surpises were:-
The Pianist.
Red Planet.
more to follow as i think of them....

Booty Call. I thought it was going to be absolutely horrible, but was in fact rather funny. Of course, Jaime Foxx was in it, and his facial expressions alone kill me.

Monster House--
I normally have an intense hatred of CG movies starring kids (and animals), but I watched this with my family recently, and actually felt it was a pretty good movie.

"Meet the Robinsons" I went because there was nothing else on, and while I like animated movies, I thought it looked kind of "meh" but I thought it was hilarious. Completely random! The story was predictable, but there were so many funny and random moments that I didn't see coming.

Hmmm.... maybe
- Red Violin (not wild about Samuel Jackson)
- The Right Stuff (LONG, never would have thought a 3+ hour movie about airplanes and rockets could keep me engaged.)
- O Brother Where Art Thou (don't like George Clooney)
- 28 Days Later (don't like scary movies)
- Spirited Away (Anime feature lengths aren't generally my thing)
These are all some of my favorite movies now

The last film I watched that completely surprised and delighted me was
Stranger than Fiction. I didn't have high hopes for it, and was completely blown away. It’s like a Douglas Adams pastiche shot through an M. Night Shyamalan lens, and bears almost no resemblance to the trailers.

Monster House, and The Fountain.
Anything from the Canadian Film Festival. They're pretty darn fantastic actually.

'Stranger Than Fiction' for me, too. And 'Pulse'.
Before that. Oh god, years ago I guess. 'You've Got Mail.' Was a movie my date wanted to see and I ended up liking it better than she did.
