I have never seen a ghost or anything strange which is ironic because i want to! I hope you could also be more specific and also give us details? Ch- ch- cheeers.

I don't think that you can say if any of those places are more condusive to ghosts than any other, as we don't yet really know what ghosts are - if we did then maybe.
Graveyards are the least likely - Why would a ghost haunt a graveyard? if a ghost is created (as some believe) by strong emotion, how can a ghost haunt the place where he or she is buried, as chances are that they never stepped foot in the graveyard whilst they were alive.
Battlefields i think are most likely but only if you subscribe to the strong emotion theory.

PS,
That's a good point about battlefields. We have ALOT of them in Virginia (from the civil war). Which reminds me of an X-Files episode (one of the good ones, IMHO).
I voted for old houses, mostly because I think alot more deaths happen there, they don't have to be violent ones to cause the spirits to stick around (to look for their killer), they could have been very happy and don't want to leave.

I voted graveyards as I've been frightend of them since I was little.
So thats where I would go if I wanted to be scared witless.

i personally think that ghosts aren't projections from the past.they could be intellegent like us.i mean, where's the fun in being a ghost seeker when all you see is a "holographic movie"kind of thing.but, you all know,i'm just putting out my opinion.not saying that anyone here is wrong with their ideas.i'm no expert on these things, although i've had my share of paranormal experiences as well.i picked graveyards.mainly because that's the most obvious place.dead people everywhere, creepy grave stones, and most of them have an eerie mist around them in the early morning.

If ghosts haunted graveyards, it would infer a connection between a ghost and it's remains after it's death. I could understand a connection to a place at the point of death but, not one that wasn't associated to that person during or at the end of life.

If the stone taping theory is true i'm surprised there aren't any ghost weddings!! A wedding is one place that'll bring out strong emotion

Churches........*shudder* scary places..... :s2
please don't it ;D
No to be honest I think any where that has strong emotions or where the person had connections with is where you'll find paranormal activity. Just a personal observation........ :s09
I forgot to put what I voted for it was Misc, as can't choose just one :s03

To me I think a place where mass murders were performed would be the scariest of places, such as the nazi death camps. So I voted for miscellaneous

[blue]Ghostboo & PS, there really isn't any reason why a ghost would not choose to haunt a graveyard. Their body is there (connection with place) and their relatives come to visit (reason to manifest). I know of a person who claims to see some dead people at a certain graveyard (their heads pop up from behind the gravestones) but interestingly at no other graveyard. Plus I have no reason to doubt this person's credibility. Just thought I'd throw that info in.
I voted for Church Buildings. I heard once that there is more of a chance of a haunting in a church building (rectory/presbytry/church etc) than in any other building. I don't know why this is so, but think of Borley Rectory - most haunted place ever (if you believe it). And when they knocked it down, the hauntings moved over to Borley Church. See the connection? lol
But I think that a ghost would come to haunt a place where either they felt most connection with, be it in a negative or positive way.

Annoying thing won't let me vote. >:(
Anyway, if I could, I'd vote misc. I mean, the scariest thing for me is a lone dark street. I keep thinking I see stuff like people, even though they aren't really there. Is that a sign of paranormality, or am I just really paranoid?
*silently hopes for the second*
If you want a few examples, just ask me. I have two or three that I could think of.

I know what you mean, Wani. Been having the same trouble myself, and still haven't found out what was behind the problem, though I have a hunch it's my Internet browser. ???
As for the poll, I'd have to agree with Wani as well, and "vote" miscellaneous. By my opinion, which ever place a ghost has "connected" with during life, is the place that it is more likely to cling to after life. As ghosts are frequently believed to stay behind by the cause of "unfinished business," they would probably be attracted to the people, objects, and places that played important and highlight roles during their life.

Without especially referring to ghosts I chose "Church Buildings" because they have allways been a place that made me uneasy when i got inside...
It's perhaps the statues' faces expressing pain...

I voted misc. because for me, it could be all of them or none of them at any given time. I think it also has a lot to do with the circumstances as well as the feelings / emotions & attitudes you are holding when you enter any of those or other places. I identify with Wani - a lone dark street can definitely be more frightening than a graveyard (that is if you're not in the graveyard in the dark!!) I can sometimes feel quite scared when I walk into an empty room because I get a sensation that I'm not alone.... (maybe this is the paranoia kicking in??!!) :s01 Ruins can be quite frightening too, mainly because there tends to be such an overwhelming sense of emptiness and loss (that's my opinion anyway).
I'd be interested in your examples Wani - please share. I once saw a "ghost" (I'm not really sure what it was) kneeling beside my bed & smiling. She was surrounded by bright light. Initially, I completely freaked out & was almost paralysed. I think my reaction caused the figure to disappear & I've never "seen" anything like that since. The frustrating thing is that I want to!! I realised later that there had been nothing to be afraid of & was quite annoyed with myself for been such a chicken. There have been other experiences too but I won't babble about them now.

Funny thing I just read recently about one person's opinion of ghost's haunting a graveyard, since he feels ghosts would be drawn to a place they frequented in life - so only grave diggers' ghosts would be likely to haunt a graveyard.
I also read why it's important to whistle when you go past (or through) a graveyard - since most people can't whistle when they're scared, if you can manage it, it's supposed to show the ghosts that you are not afraid!! :s9 (personally, I think the best way would be just run at top speed while SCREAMING! Your heart is already pumping like mad, so why not put it to good use!) ;D

churches are definitely creepy places to be alone in the dark. even when people are there they are still spooky in a strange way.

Oh really KC? Just have to whistle to make the ghost escape? Sure I'll note that! :sd
By the way, do you know why Chinese use folding screens?
It's because chinese spirits are told to be stupid and they allways go straight! So they bump the screen and go back! :sd

Ronin, remember it was someone else's idea, not mine! ;D
That's interesting about the screens! I wonder if ALL ghosts are told that!! (some might have missed the meeting!) :s2

I would think that graveyards are being overused although the best place to be afraid. Ruins are the best at night because you always feel a presence and you know if something died there or not. Old houses are not that good cause they have been filled with MANY people and some are good.

Wani,
That's a good point.I usually walk home from my freind's house at night and if I'm alone, you know what I do?I run at top speeds toward my house.I just feel so uneasy walking down my own street alone at night,I feel as if something's chasing me or after me.And even if I'm with my brother,I still need to walk fast and continuously watch my back and front at the same time.I know people get this way when they're alone, but why do I feel it when I'm accompanied by my bro? It's strange that when I'm alone in the day,I feel just fine.I guess it's because when you're out when there's light, you can see pretty much anything if you look at it.But at night, you can barely see. That might be it...And one more thing:when I run,I really run!I don't mean just fast,I mean ramming speed!Sometimes I feel as if I was on the edge of the sound barrier.Whew!I'm writing too much! Also, for the people who chose church buildings,I think that they're creepy because of how big they are and how empty they can seem, and it doesn't help when the slightest sounds echo off of the walls.
