I feel facebook and myspace are self constructed altars that glorify the ego. Does anyone else agree? What would be the best way of converying this message to the general non spiritual and spiritual masses?

thank you for your help.

^I agree.
Though I don't see anything necessarily wrong with glorifying the ego, so long as it doesn't become an obsession. rofl.gif

Well, I guess for some those websites do serve their ego. I find it a great way to keep in touch with old friends and family. I have to ask, though. Since it's just your opinion that it serves to glorify their ego, why do you feel it necessary to convey that to the masses? I'm actually curious. Not being sarcastic.

i dont agree at all. there just other ways of meeting people all over the world. and small bands having a way to get their music out there without having to pay a ton of money for recordings. these are good things. people also use them for dating if theyre too shy to go up to people they meet and talk to them. its a way of getting to know someone and then possibly hang out with them later as your friend or something else.
myspace and facebook are just the same as meeting someone on the street and telling them about yourself. except its online and worldwide

I would agree, unless one finds something deeper in themselves, they live and die glorifying the ego every day of their life. I think that's what sites such as those, are for. Altars inviting the world to say hello to who you are. In pictures, music, links.

I don't do myspace, and such stuff. This Atheist doesn't need an altar. I ammmmm the altar to my life! Ahhhh had to say that. The brownies made me do it. tongue.gif

I agree it Can be, and for many it is, and for many it's not.

imo, all you can do is plant the seed. (and expect ridicule, as usual)

ppl generally don't let you know that you changed their mind, and they hardly ever change it in front of you... especially for those things defense mechanisms kick in for

It's why personal pages are usually called "vanity pages". Some people's pages may have content that's worthwhile on it's own merits. But for so many others the only message is "I'm me, I'm here", using email would let their friends keep in touch just as easily.

(umm, I have a personal page too, if I ever create anything worth viewing)

those all sound like valid points of views to me.

I agree myspace and facebook do have their benifits when it comes to business and social networking.
But does the dumbed down electronic communication steal life from interaction, serve as a crutch to many.

like many can handle their moon shine but the mayberry police still always taken down the shiners.

I have a facebook and myspace, purely for business networking and music exchange, but I would love to see both vehicles destroyed.
