Do people still want to put the ten commandments in front of everything? I havent read about it in a while.

Probably infront of courts & buildings like that. But those crazy people who are against it. Don't want them too. I found that pretty stupid if you ask me. They should be left where they belong & not some storage closet.

be honest....

take down the ten commandments and replace them with a plaque that reads:

Within this building you will find:
Lust (Latin, luxuria)
Gluttony (Latin, gula)
Greed (Latin, avaritia)
Sloth (Latin, acedia)
Wrath (Latin, ira)
Envy (Latin, invidia)
Pride (Latin, superbia)

To whom do the 10 commandments speak, in a nation of diverse persons guaranteed their freedom of religion!? If it is not a guarantee to be from the religion that thinks it speaks to everyone, as it believes it has a right to put Mosaic law on the grounds of government properties, in this nation free in that separation guaranteed between church and State!?

You see, if it is all a matter of context, then they should be removed. Because we are not a theocracy and those laws can not speak on the grounds of our courthouses or our halls of power, that are suppose to govern we the people of this Republican democracy, by will of man, not ordinance of someone's god. When Mosaic law governed hell was a very real place full of fire and brimstone. Not what is pimped now, out of context, to assuage the fear of that once taught reality, with notions it is merely a separation from god and nothing more. Because when Mosaic law meant something, in government, it was ordained through the church, to burn those called heretic in service to justice, and god.

And the reason for flaming flesh, rising in black plumes over the buildings and the people of that particular village, was said, by those emissaries for the higher power that ordained the act, to be a blessing for the condemned. Because it was better to roast here, having repented the sins that gained them such a sentence, than to burn for eternity in hell. Now, hell is said, by some, not to be that burning place. Which , back in the day, would have gained such bold misrepresentation, a pyre of it's own.

America is not a theocracy. If one feels they need the 10 commandments where ever they go, get a tattoo, or live inside a church. But in this free nation, the commandments have no place on secular government property, because they speak to a particular faith, a particular god and a particular doctrine that is not tolerant nor inclusive. And as such, in a free republic, forbidden to represent we the people, when it is intended to speak, to only those that believe.

If one wishes a country wherein god rules, move to Iran. original.gif Because this country is not that place. And never shall be, if her people value freedom and peace.

^ I agree!

I mean since people want the 10 commandments in the justice system, do they also want the bible to be the laws as well? I mean... Come on... Look what else is just in the OT! Killing kids for talking back! Killing nonbelievers! Rules for selling your daughters to dirty old men to be raped!

An idea that comes from immoral text should not be in our justice system.

Well, it may be observed the first commandment to mankind is to have no other gods before the one that dictated the other 9.
This tends to communicate that god is saying himself, he isn't the only god, just the only one the Hebrews are allowed to acknowledge, under penalty of death. Then the other 9 commandments relate to how that should be accomplished and as such the community within their own tribes. But what is the admonition for right behavior, if the god ordaining such gives pardon, in his will!?

Thou shalt not murder/kill.
The OT is replete with examples of that commandment being broken at gods command to the human emissaries he had to employ in order to carry out his will to murder.

Therefore, that 6th commandment has no place on the lawn of a courthouse, when god is the ultimate slayer of the living. And especially in those jurisdictions wherein capital punishment is law. But what is really sad is if those stone tablets are on the lawn in front of the courthouse, of one of those States that kills people, to show people that killing people is wrong.

Thou shalt not commit adultery.
That 7th commandment would preclude the tablets display in government. If Clinton is any example, for why. Or JFK, or virtually any politician, that has yet to be named.

Thou shalt not steal.
The 8th commandment was broken on the gavel strike, when the Supreme Court of this country expanded the authoritative power of "Eminent Domain".

Thou shalt remember the sabbath and keep it holy.
The fourth commandment is certainly subject to interpretation, ranging for some to be anywhere from a Friday, a Saturday or a Sunday. And if the 10 commandments are qualified to sit on the lawn of our justice centers, am I then permitted to stone to death anyone that is working on the Sabbath!? As gods word commands , as well?

Thou shalt not take the name of the lord thy god in vain.
I wonder to which god this commandment may be referring, in this diverse nation of persons and beliefs. And then I think of those politicians that swore , in gods name, to care for this nation. Their right hand, often enough, planted firmly on the King James version of gods breath, at the time. And how they did break that commandment. When they lied about WMD's , so as to take this nations people into war. To betray the trust afforded their office, with a lie. And I wonder, if those commandments mean something in government, when we shall convene a trial in the halls of justice where those commandments are said to be entitled to be displayed, and then cut off that right hand, for breaking gods law and murdering our soldiers , by bearing false witness. (9th commandment)

Thou shalt honor thy mother and father. When a child can take their parent to court, claiming child abuse after a spanking, that 4th commandment is pretty much already on it's way out the door, or off the lawn, as the case may be. But when a father or mother can be tried for raping their child, it may be said god is holding that door open already. For he might have thought to include a commandment to honor one's children, so at least those that claim the commandments instill a sense of morality, may have stood a chance at proving it.

Thou shalt not steal. Fascinating! That the Abrahamic faith that believes itself entitled to special treatment, stole it's place today, by murdering the faithful in history, so as to assume the predominant status in a world of billions of souls. When one steals culture, forbids native tongues from speaking, and condemns tradition and gods that have been held holy for thousands of years, claiming a god forbids theft in light of that, is absurd. Because it is only for that, that that faith can claim itself to be the #1 faith in the world today. It simply stole it's place, by killing the competition. There's that naughty 6th commandment again.

I wonder, who holds god accountable when he can't keep to his own commandments?!
Maybe that's what the devil is for. To remind us that god is alive in that visage too. So really, all one is doing living in the light of god, in fear of hell, is striving to serve the one master, that made it all possible in the reign of it's omnipresent dominion as the only god there is.
