We have all seen the beautiful, clear pictures provided by the Hubble. Other space telescopes of lesser fame have also unlocked valuable scientific data.
Interferometry also has had many breakthroughs, particularly in planet-hunting. Now NASA is considering an orbiting constellation of four satellites to expand the search. Planet hunting programs like Planet Finder, Terran Planet Finder, and Life Finder will all likely make use of these technologies.
What has anyone heard, and where do you think the technology in astronomy is going?
Personally, I'm hoping we can build a constellation of interferometry telescopes along the track of Earth's orbit (it would provide a very large viewing area). Imagine the research we could accomplish in the polar regions of the sky.
