MANILA, Philippines -- A jobless man was shot dead by a security guard for singing out of tune in a karaoke bar, police said Thursday.

The man, 29, was halfway through his song on Tuesday night in a bar in San Mateo town, east of Manila, when 43-year-old security guard Robilito Ortega yelled that he was out of tune.

As he ignored his comments and continued singing, Ortega pulled out his revolver and shot him in the chest. He died instantly.

Deaths and violence are not uncommon in Philippine karaoke bars.

The popular Frank Sinatra song "My Way" has been taken off many karaoke bars in Manila after it was found to be the cause of fights and even deaths when patrons sang out of tune.

Was at a Karaoke bar, don't ask why, this last Friday night and there were many worthy of death. From the drunken hillbilly singing "A Boy Named Sue" in a slurred monotone to the girl who tried to sing Celine Dion and ended up sounding like cats mating, I should have lined them up and borrowed a gun from somebody's truck.

Yes, I know somebody had one, I was in Arkansas after all.

No my mom did not die I was making a point, killer without reason is a quote from one of the movies, and I am not going to put my real age on my profile.

If you fail to see the dichotomy between your avatar/quote and your moral outrage at some black humour, then you can't be helped. I'm pretty sure that everyone on here finds this a horrible & senseless killing. Despite of this, the situation just screams for some silly remarks.

IMO, the guy just snapped. The news article said that he was a security guard at the karaoke club. So, imagine this, night after, night, after night, he has to listen to people butchering songs & singing out of tune....it's no justification...but it obviously can push someone over the edge...! Don't underestimate the power of (bad) music !
