how come the "prophits" of modern times are always castaway or ignored or thrown into a happy farm (lol) all because they say god speaks through them, or he hears him, or they are the new son of god (idk bout that one)

the modern "prophits" are just doing the same thing as done in the past
and they are seen as crackheads

If I'm not mistaken, I believe the prophets of the past had a hard time as well.. Seems most were executed, or jailed, or rejected for the most part.. It seems to be the same thing..

Even though today, we ARE aware of certain mental conditions which can cause someone to believe in their delusions as prophecy.. and society is more likely to call them mentally Ill than in some way be threatend by them as those in past..... Don't know just my opinion.

Christian? No additions to the bible are allowed. The divine message you deliver, whatever it is, is heresy. I suspect the same thing may be true for Islam and other major religions. They define themselves as static, fixed, monolithic constructs. True believers are allowed to seek better understanding within the confines of the construct, giving illusions of change, but new input data is not allowed. They are closed sets. You can not be a prophet within their graces, you can only be a competitor.

I think anyone who says God speaks to him/her or that they are the true voice of God today would be a Prophet only to the lunitic fringe and considered to have a mental health problem. I also think the Prophets of old were in the same catagory as having dubious mental health, but given the superstitious nature of societies back then they would have been considered more legitimate as spokespersons of God.

Of course the old religious books were written by the Prophet's followers, so they would have been portrayed as great leaders of their religions and not loonies as they probably were in real life.

Of all the modern day prophets I have heard about, many seem to say a lot kookier things than "Everyone should love eachother and just get along." ... things like 'all women and girls should sleep with me to achieve eternal life' or 'pay me $1000 and you shall be saved."

Not everybody who claims to be a prophet is declared mentally ill. Some people who claim to be prophets have a few followers. It is true most people don't listen to them. I don't know why that is.
