Full Version: Weird way of sensing spirits?
Unexplained Mysteries Discussion Forums > Unexplained Mysteries > Ghosts, Hauntings & The Paranormal
Cold.
Okay. Here's the deal. Throughout the past, I have had really odd... things happen to me. I think I've told you people about some of my experiences, and others probably haven't even been bothered to read them. Here's another topic, however, this time it discusses a weird way to sense spirits. Occasionally, I'll be sitting down minding my own business, when I'll get a weird whiff of perfume.. except, this only occurs when I exhale. As I inhale, I can't smell anything. Everywhere I go, I seem to smell the same kind of perfume - a nice, flowery scent. Not a stench, but a pleasant, calm flowery scent. It kind of relaxes me, but it freaks me out.

My grandmother wears perfume, but not all the time - and even when she doesn't, I can still smell the flowery perfume. When I'm at school, I'll be sitting down, and sometimes I'll catch a brief scent of flowers. I don't know what's going on, but it kind of freaks me out at times. Any advice as to what is happening?

Sometimes I smell flowers and at other times a stinky sort of smell. I also asked someone about this and their reply was that good spirits often left a nice smell whereas the other sort of spirits leave the smelly job. I don't know if it's true, but it is curious as to where the smell comes from in the first place.

I've always heard that as well.

It could be your greatgrandmother for example. It is said that when she smell flowers, purfume, and things of that nature it is a deceased loved on watching over us..Why not ask your Grandmother IF her mother wore purfume or loved flowers and see what she says. Is it like lilac? JN

I live in a house with 3 teenage boys and a husband. I would love to smell perfume and flowers everywhere I go, instead of sweat and farts and feet. disgust.gif
Sorry!

J.G., I would follow Just Normal's advice.

I have a question though.
How do you smell something when you exhale? I can only smell things when I inhale?

There are people who literally exhale and inhale at the same time. Its a medical issue involving the diaphragm. Its better than farts, and sweaty sox and feet. Been there done that with my sons..EWWWWWWW-<gag>

The "exhale smelling thing" is kind of like an aftertaste. Ever eaten something and after you swallow and exhale the full aroma/ taste hits you? I can imagine that whatever essence is in the air takes a little bit of time to hit your sense of smell, and on the exhale, you can enjoy the scent. (assuming it isn't feet or farts!)

Oh, I get it! Thanks!
Cold.
I asked my grandmother a while back, about a month or two ago, because I wanted to know if her mother wore alot of perfume. She said "Yes, she always had a lot of it on". I fail to see how an aftertaste would smell/taste like flowers, especially when I don't eat.. flowers.

And, also, I don't see how the same exact scent of flowers would be with me on the occasional smell that I get when I exhale.

[Edit]: It's kind of like a mix of lilac/roses and a whole bunch of other flowers. It smells nice.

As I said, my grandmother rarely puts perfume on, so it's hard to say that SHE wears the perfume I'm smelling. I will tell you one thing, however. It was last year, or the year before, when I smelled perfume so bad that my nose would get kind of irritated - yet, when I inhaled, nothing to be smelled.

I dunno what to tell ya bud, but it sounds like you have a spirit following you, or perhaps watching over you. But, if you want to go into the scientific realm, you might want to get your sinuses checked out. Could be something's irritating it from time to time, or it could be a tumor! lol, just kidding about that last part. But on the rest, it's your call.

Isn't guardian angels supposed to leave behind a flowery scent or am I way off? original.gif

I am so happy to hear you dont eat flowers, that would be rather strange. blink.gif I feel it is your greatgrandmother as I said yesterday. She is watching over you, and your guardian angel so to speak, and we all know anything is possible especially when it comes to deceased loved ones. If it ever irritates your nose again, try some "salt water" nasal spray that helps any irritation. Also, there are people who inhale and exhale at the exact same time, however only feel the exhaling part. As long as it doesnt bother you, and it smells nice not to worry, and enjoy. innocent.gif

In my opnion you are right on target. Guardian angels are deceased loved ones who watch over and take care of us. Many times the flowers indicate what the late loved one had at the funeral, or the scent they loved in life.

Guardian Angels are Angels. Dead people dont becomes Angels.
Dead people might ore might not wach over their loved ones - but that dont make them Angels - dont confuse the words and their meaning.

You once told me that my guardian Angel was a relative called Micheal - the only Michael I have ever known is my brother, and he is still alive. No other Michael in my familys past.
To be honest - I dont think you know what you are talking about - again no.gif

Do you mean it "doesnt" make them angels? In my opinion every living human being has someone who has passed even centuries ago, watching over them. Sorry you are so insulting, that is not a good trait.. blink.gif

Olfactory hallucination.

There are a lot of causes for them from epilepsy to migraine auras.

I dont care if you beleive that there are ancestors watching over some one, but that dosnt make them Angels.
Angels are heavenly beings, a "race" of their own, so no "it dont make them Angels -and you would know, if you knew just half of what you claim, and had just a fraction of the psychic abilities you say you have.

If you are insulted - well so be it, you are insulted every time someone donīt agrees with you - plenty of examples on that.
I think you insult me by saying things that are provable false, when you claim to have insight in things you are surely wrong about, and knowledge no one else haves, and then refuse to answer questions.
If someone like Sylvia Brown had stated some of the things you have said on this forum, they would have been debunked on every mass media,

But my challenge is still open:
Answer my questions from the thread "Demonic Entities" It is the posts numbered; 313 - 316 - 326 - 334.
If you are legit, you can answer, which you have refused so far.

By the way, my family is recorded back to 1642 - Absolutely no Michael there. So stop saying I have an ancestor by that name as a guardian Angel. I have already told you I know who my Guardian Angels are, who are you to know better, are you some kind of "know it all-better-than-everyone-oracle???

Ya know I dont care what you think of me, or my abilities or what I am going through. I never said I knew more than anyone else, you did however. I refuse to challenge you because I dont have to. You insulted me on another thread and that was enough for me. If you dont think I am legit, so be it..its your choice..

But you are saying you know more than anyone else.
You do it when you come up with brand-new-newer-before-heard of statements on Angels and demons - when you tell us things about the Catholic exorcism ritual, that are provably not true - when you say things about my guardian Angel, that is not corresponding with what I know - and that is just a few examples.

I have given you the opportunity to explain your theories, and wrong claims - you have not, and you wonīt debate.
I have only been polite in my words, and been very careful not to insult you, since I have seen how easily you are being insulted if anyone disagrees with you.

Well if you still wonīt answer for your self - at least I know what you are - It is so sad no.gif

That is true.
Not saying that's what's going on in this case but J.G. it is something you might want to talk to a Doctor about.
Especially, if it's getting bad enough to irritate your nasal passages.

well it definatly seems like a spirit to me, its not inside you is it tongue.gif , smell cant be hallucinated to smell something it requires a chemical reaction to occure in your brain, also smell is connected to taste, so if you have a fully blocked nose you cant taste anything

Also, smell is linked with memories.

If you smell a certain smell it can trigger a very vivid memory and certain memories are linked with smell as well.

Just thought I'd throw that in there.

but that only goes as far as substituting one smell for another it not actually making a smell out of nowhere as far as the websites described the smells were just replacing others, and none of the reports of people smelling cigar smoke or anything else have reported people having headaches, i would think that during a paranormal investigation they would report everything incluiding migraines, im saying that a smell just appears out of nowhere and there is no source for it to begin with so it cant be substituted with another, and what are the chances of smeelling something like cigar smoke when the spirit that had died smoked cigars.

You are right, about the links that I posted.
The disorder I was thinking of is phantosmia, and I was under the impression that it is only present in people with brain tumors. I didn't want to post that, because I didn't want to frighten the OP.
But I looked around and it isn't just associated with brain tumors anymore.
