Crazy! Read this:

Vermont Secession?

"Disillusioned by what they call an empire about to fall, a small cadre of writers and academics hopes to put the question before citizens in March. Eventually, they want to persuade state lawmakers to declare independence, returning Vermont to the status it held from 1777 to 1791."

Maybe the gigantic mega-countries don't make sense culturally. Would it really be such a disaster if the red states separated from the blue states. They'd probably lose their status as "superpowers" but... so what? Is the sacrifice of compromising with an alien culture worth the power-boost? Upperclass American lifestyles would be less opulent. So what?

Because 'red state' or 'blue state' only points to who gets the most votes in a state. There are people of all political and cultural views in all states. That's our shared American culture: where ever you go there are going to be people of all different creeds, colors and crazinesses rubbing shoulders and for the most part figuring out how to live peacefully together.
Why break that up because one state has more voting liberals or cons than the next state over? Silly.

Let 'em do it! Then we can invade.

Just a lotta huffing and puffing...Hawaii's been trying to do that...but when it really comes down to it - they don't want to sever themselves from the gov't t**.

Let em go, who cares? We don't need Vermont, maybe they can get funded by Chavez, or Ahmadinejad.
Then all the ultra extremist liberals will go there and we won't have to look at them.
