Contestant Emily Parr has been removed from the Big Brother house for using a racially offensive word to housemate Charley.
Parr used the word "n****r" while dancing with her housemate in the living room.
Channel 4 said she was heard to say "Are you pushing it out you n****r?"

The news follows the controversial Celebrity Big Brother race row involving Jade Goody, Danielle Lloyd, Jo O'Meara and Shilpa Shetty.

Emily, a posh blonde Bristol student and fan of the Conservative Party, was called to the Diary Room at around 3.30am to be told of the decision.

The housemate, who says on the Big Brother website that she has no time for people who do not live up to her high standards, was removed from the house without further contact with the others.

The other housemates were told of the decision at 9.30am. Friday's eviction vote has been suspended.

Channel 4 issued a statement saying: "Emily immediately made clear that she had not intended to offend and that the comment had been meant as a joke.

"In discussing what she had said, Charley and Nicky agreed that they were not personally offended, although both did express shock at the language she had used.

"In the ensuing discussion, Emily acknowledged that she should have been more careful with her words."

is this the last big brother now? I HOPE SO!!

I only watched them enter the house and I haven't watched anything else, but I'm pleased Channel 4 have dealt with it as they have. Even if she didn't mean it maliciously, it was in poor taste and inappropriate. Admittedly she wasn't the most intelligent person to grace the face of our planet and I found her comment - "I'm really into this new type of music, it's called "Indie"" hilarious! Gee, what was that musical genre that is believed to have started in the 1980's with Creation records?! rolleyes.gif Good riddance I say!!!!!!!!!

Is this the last Big Brother? - Let's cross our fingers and hope!

I'm such a goofball that I'm sitting here snickering at myself. When I read the title of this post, "housemate axed for being racist", I thought, "That's crazy. You can't be a racist, but I can be an axe murderer?" Then I clicked on it and read the whole thing.

I'M SUCH A DORK. rolleyes.gif

Now it's very important... when she said the N-WORD... did she spell/mean it to end with an 'A' or 'ER'
hmm.gif laugh.gif

One is considered a term of endearment the other offensive.. I forget which is which..

I have so many thoughts on this subject. I've erased three sentences and an entire paragraph for fear of myself being labled a racist. I can see that this thread is probably going to be turned into a heated race debate and then shut down.

I'll just say this: Equal is equal. Not, we want to be equal but have special privelages too.

And to think, there are black rap groups that have bold racist lyrics in their music, and they sell hundreds if not thousands of units, to a hungry music fan public. And the N word is used as a term of endearment by blacks all the time. Even in their music. Change the consonant at the end , to a vowel and it's cool boys! thumbsup.gif Imus gets fired for calling a girls basketball team nappy headed Ho's. Meanwhile nappy hair does exist , and "Ho" is so common in music, that the video's even feature a whole passel of them, dancing around the lip sync musician singing it to them. Then, at music awards much later, the first one those stars congratulate for their success is ........god!

Yes! Thank you god for giving me the inspiration to call women every name in the book. You're my nigg*! ~ holds up MTV music award~ blink.gif

It is said black people can not be racist.
Funny, I didn't know hate was a condition relegated to be suffered by only one skin tone.
Now if you'll excuse me, this pasty chic is going to go shop on-line for the latest album by, Apache. " Apache Ain't Shi*". A 1993 album, that inspires it's demographic to kill whitey.

Wonder if they got a Grammy in 1994. dontgetit.gif

Okay, I'll borrow a little bravery from Goddess.....here goes......

To me, as a white person who never owned a slave or supported segregation, I do not feel it is fair that there is:

- A channel called BET but not one called WET
- A Black History month but not a White History month
- Television shows where we can be called honkey and cracker and it's considered comedy
- Awards shows that are exclusively for black entertainers

As proven by the original post, the "N" word cannot even be hinted at by someone not black on television or radio without inciting rabid indignation and an immediate uproar. I agree with that, but it should be the same if the word honkey, whitey, or cracker is used. There are no holidays or television shows exclusive to whites. They are shared by any race that wants to view them or participate in them. We cannot even say we are openly proud to be white without being labled white supremacists.

If any of these points are even brought up, then the slavery and segregation issues are the first defense. But, I never owned a slave and you've never been one. This happened between our forefathers.

We all know that if you don't remember history, you're doomed to repeat it. I'm not saying to forget what happend to your ancestors, but you cannot go forward if you're only looking backwards.

The N word, isnt an offensive word, its just a take on the spanish word "negro" which means black! its no different from the word paki, which is short for pakistani! It appears people will be offended by almost anything these days, its like other races refering to white peope as Blanco! who cares!

Black people say they have claimed the N word by using it in music! well ive re-
claimed it back! Lord Scrummage aint goin down like no *****! yawl.....rat, tap, tap, tap...go ping wit mi hoez...hoop, hoop, Lord Scrummage in da loop....

blink.gif I was hoping you'd "lol" at the end of that sentence. So, 5 years for a word. Tell me, if you know or perhaps I might look it up, what's the charge exactly!?

Isn't it racist that the word is only racist if a white person says it?

Are you serious? No kind of freedom of speech infringement? Or is that not an actual right in London? I'm just curious cuz I know freedom of speech is a right laid down in the US constitution. I guess I'm just not very well informed about other countries laws and human rights.

Apache is indeed a native tribe. However in this case it's a music group. Link That's just a tad racist.

Just because we know the origin of a word, it doesn't mean it's not offensive! I wish these words weren't offensive, but they are.

I just think you have to be so careful of how you use words like this in today's society. Especially with the previous race row on Big Brother, you'd have thought she would have known better. I know she didn't mean it offensively, but you should choose your words carefully, especially if they are open to interpretation by millions of TV viewers.

laugh.gif I heard Christ Rock, when he made that comment on stage! thumbsup.gif (edit to add: Did you hear about actor/comedian Daman Wayans!? He was performing his act at either, The Laugh Factory or the Comedy Club. They fined him each time he used the N word. Why? Because he was being, racially insensitive. blink.gif For those not aware, Daman Wayans , is black! wacko.gif )

All the PC prosecution gives power to words. Here, in the U.S. , compliment someone and you could be sued for sexual harassment. Or, if it happens at a job, you could be threatened with the loss of your job if you don't agree to attend, "Gender Sensitivity Training". Where they teach you that compliments aren't really compliments and it's naughty to give them, because ....they could mean you want to sex someone! "It's not how you mean it, it's how it's received!" That's the keywords that defend the charge.

If you are straight, and call someone a Fa*, even in play and you know the person, you can be called offensive and sued, or fired or, if you're actor Isaiah Washington, "voluntarily" enter into verbal rehab! So that you learn not to ever ever say that evil vicious word again! Because as soon as it leaves your lips, the person that you called that name, dissolves! Right before your eyes. This of course does not apply in the gay community. Where we hear our own people use that word, speaking to each other, as regularly as one hears, "Take care!" Soon, there shall be prosecution for calling one gender by a different gender title. Which means my gay male friends, that call one another "Girl" can still skate, but the straights shall be worried!
