Sorry it is in a Swedish paper, but this is what the article says:

An 1100 year old Mickey Mouse has been found at the largest excavation of an iron age settlement. It is in Uppåkra, 5 kms south of Lund, where the find has been made.

The little figurine is made of bronze, and is part of a larger piece/brooch that holds a mantle together by the neck.
"It has fallen off for some reason" says Jerry Rosenberg, who is an archeologist at Lunds University

The excavations has been going on since 1996 and will be continued at least over the summer.
Jerry Rosengren is hoping for an extension and says that only 2% of the area has so far been excavated. Approximately 20 000 objects have been found in this, the largest excavation in Sweden of an iron age settlement. The finds can be found (HO! w00t.gif ) at the Historical Museeum in Lund, where the little Mickey Mouse figurine has been given a shelf of its own"

I've just directly translated it so sorry if the words are a bit funny...

Fascinating....Old Walt stole the idea from an 1100 year old pin! I love it...Hmmm, could this be proof of time travel? yes.gif
Dewlanna
Tbh, I have no idea, but the similarities are definately there, I thought it was a joke first, but apparantly not.

Fyi, the museum's website can be found here: http://www.luhm.lu.se/

I smell a conspiracy theory coming up! LOL!
Mabon
Well they could put it together with the tomato that looks like Micky and start an exhibit!

The object really does look like Micky Mouse! It would be very interesting to know what it represented to the person who made it and to see the other objects found at the same dig.

So bizarre!

Mabon.
Jewels1958
lol too funny. But that does give some truth to the saying that nothing is really new. wink2.gif
Moro
Thats interesting! So is it an idol or something, did they worship mickey mouse 1,100 years ago? laugh.gif

No way? Someone was selling Mickey Mouse merchandise so long ago? At least Disney did not have copyright at that time or they would have sued right out of the grave! innocent.gif
.Ammiel.

moe eubleck
This was not Mickey mouse. This was Jezzabeeb, weasel of Tutan.

We do not need to be thanked for this clarification.

The weird thing about it is the smile.
An argument could be made that this could be the makers interpretation of several different animals, but I just can't get past the smile. What animal smiles? MICKY MOUSE!

i was watching an episode of History Detectives on PBS & they concluded that Walt Disney stole the Mickey Mouse idea from a local toy maker.
this toy, now an antique, was called "Mikey Mouse".
Disney latered sued the creator & got all the rights to production.
blah blah capitalism.

as for it appearing before our century, well..
it's not like no one had sketched a cute mouse before our generation.

here's a brain busting thought.
people in ancient times were also creative.
Dewlanna
Yes, people in ancient times I'm sure were also creative, and I'm sure this find is not of any significance whatsoever.
However, I thought it was quite funny, seeing as back then they didn't have cartoons (well Duh!).

Funny find, that's all it is Anita, take a chill pill and loose the 'tude wink2.gif wiggle.gif

I didn't know humor existed 1100 years ago.

This is so awesome. XD I've sent links to this to just about everyone I know.
Masjeris
Ha, 1100 year old Mickey Mouse grin2.gif I can defietly see the resemblence, but there is no proof that this really is supposed to be portrayed as Ol' Mickey. It could just be a children's toy/item that just happens to have ears like him.
Manni
So, everything with round ears is Mickey Mouse ? ....Right
