QUOTE
A Belgian businessman rejected a Nigerian job applicant because the businessman said his own dog was racist and would bite non-whites, Belgian media reported on Saturday.

The 53-year-old man Nigerian told De Standaard newspaper he arrived at the Belgian's wrought-iron business and was immediately confronted by the barking dog.

The Belgian turned the man away before he could even enter, and wrote on his labour office letter that he could not hire the man because of his colour, adding there was a risk the dog would bite him.

The local labour office has concluded that the Belgian was racist and has removed him from its list of potential employers.

'My dog is racist. Not me,' the Belgian told De Standaard.

The Nigerian, who has lived in Belgium for 32 years, said it was not the first time he had been rejected for a job because of his colour, although other employers had been more subtle.

He told the newspaper that he did not wish to lodge a formal complaint because he did not wish his family in Nigeria to hear about the case.

Dont really know much about dogs, if they can be racist. I would guess its not really racism, if it dislikes black people, maybe it could scared of people that look different than what it usually sees. But really just sounds like a poor excuse to me.

Interesting article, I used to know a racist dog. For serious, it was my friends dog, I dont know why or even how a dog can be racist, if that is even the proper term for a dog's racial bias lol, but ya the dog would sit in the front yard all day ignoring the pedestrians walking down the road but start barking at non-white people when they walked down the road. I dont know why the dog did it but I saw him do it many times (we eventually started to look everytime he barked just to see) and it became a joke to us. The dog came from an Indian reserve (loads of free puppies there, mixed breeds but always had some Rottie in them, I love Rotties) so maybe he was mistreated or something before... I dunno but ya I'd say he was a racist dog.

I think dogs can differentiate between people. I have never heard of the colour issue but a mate of mine once had a dog that hated males. They got the dog from a dogs' home, it was probably beaten by some bloke that's why he hated them.

I admit that my dog always barks/growls at black people..and no, I didn't train him to..

But it's a stupid excuse either way you look at it.

Anybody ever see the movie "White dog" Plot outline "Paul Winfield is a trainer attempting to reprogram vicious dog who's been trained to attack and kill people with black skin." It's an interesting movie with a twist. link

I dont think the dog is racist at all. the owner is and he has trained the dog to be like this. The man is a D&#! and cant admit so he blames the dog. The dog probably humps the legs of women because its a chauvinist pig dog

Some dogs will take a dislike to a certain type of person, be it colour, height, sex or even somthing as silly as if they are wearing a hat. All of these dislikes arise from a shock or a uncomfortable moment in the dogs younger years, or from training given to the dogs by owners.

In my opinion the man was right not to give the person the job, its not going to be a nice working environment for the man in question if the dogs trying to attack him every five minutes!

There was an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm where Larry David bought what seemed to be a racist dog. Sooo funny.

On a more serious note, yea dogs can show aggression to certain groups of people. Say for instance that you live in a mainly "white" area and the only time you really see Black folks is on the news accused of some crime or other or in pop-ey fake hip hop videos overacting like rich pimps and gangsters and hoes because the record industry thinks it's cute and it'll best sell to the mainly white young male population who buys into it all. If your dog is there with you and it gauges your reaction to these items on tv then it'll think "hey people who look like this makes my human uncomfortable and afraid". So when the dog sees a rare Black person on the street it'll be tense and aggressive, especially if its human shows some signs of fear and tension.

(I was actually bit by a dog because - one of the few Black people in my nearly all white university town. The women did not know what possessed her dog cause it's usually "calm and friendly towards strangers" she told me. Chah right.).

I heard that there is a scent given off of the person, that only dogs can smell....I have a rottie that only barks at a leaf, or squirrel going past the house...any person, whether he belongs here or not, is a guest according to my dog.... blink.gif

Just like that episode on King of the Hill, his dog always bit the plumber, they thought it was because he was black but it turned out that it didn't like someone else working on the water heater because Hank couldn't cause he was injured or something..............
