i don't like song remakes. but i suppose that we would get bored with new songs all the time. there is already ernough songs without making them twice. like smooth criminal by jakko and aaf (alien ant farm). it is annoying when it only got popular the second time. when you try to find it to download you can't find it.

Mmmm, I generally don't like covers but here are some I am fond of:
Robert Plant - Song to the Siren
Blue Cheer - Summertime Blues
Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers - Do You Love Me?
Stereophonics - Angie
Nick Drake - Don't Think Twice, It's Allright
The White Stripes - One More Cup of Coffee
Jose Gonsalez - Heartbeats
Electric Wizard - Electric Funeral
Guitar Wolf - Rumble
I've also heard a pretty good carbon clone of Interstellar Overdrive by the Meat Puppets.

The great things about covers is that sometimes the song's very meaning gets reinterpreted by the second artist. For example, "Highway to Hell" by AC/DC is just a straight pure rock song, while Marilyn Manson's electronic cover of it adds a layer of meaning: hell for the modern age is electronic, webbed, a hell of distance from others.
Manson has done some other great covers too:
'Like A Virgin'
'Tainted Love'
'Working Class Hero'
'Get My Rocks Off'
'Sweet Dreams'
Just to name a few.
Some other good covers are:
'Sympathy for the Devil' -- Guns N' Roses
'Angry Inch', 'Cinnamon Girl', 'Paranoid' -- Type O Negative
'Hurt' -- Johnny Cash
'I'm Your Boogie Man' -- White Zombie

I really don't like the Cash version of Hurt.
Jeff Buckley's version of "Hallelujah" is phenominal.
Nirvana's "Lake of Fire" is amazing too...as is their version of "The Man Who Sold The World."

I like comparing the originals with the remakes.....made my own playlist of my favs. Some have improved, some have destroyed and some have keep it original.

I like Godsmack's version of SweetLeaf
And Ozzy's version of Stayin' Alive

One thing I do sometimes is on a P2P search for "cover" and see what I get. Lots of pretty good ones.

I love Van Halen covers! I really like Pretty Woman... and You Really Got Me is absolutely fantastic, especially if Eruption is played right before it.

There are a lot of really good covers out there, like Pearl Jam's 'Last Kiss' and Hole's 'Gold Dust Woman'. And 'Summertime Blues' is best when it's The Who version.

No way, "You Really Got Me Going' is one of the worst covers I have ever heard! The kinks version is infinitely better in my opinion.

Well, even Ray Davies would disagree since he says their going to do the Van Halen song 'YRGM' before they play it.

I think the Sex Pistols cover of "my way" is cracking, as good as Sinatra`s in its own punked up way.

I actually think that's one of the worst covers.
I also think 311's cover of "Love Song" (The Cure) is horrible. And Madonna's "American Pie" (Don McLean).
I love Faith No More's cover of "War Pigs" (Black Sabbath), Santana's "Black Magic Woman" (Fleetwood Mac), and The Smashing Pumpkins "Never Let Me Down Again" (Depeche Mode).
