My dreams took me from my feet,
I unraveled the darkness and took my seat;
As I sat atop the gravel that edged the tank--
My mind wandered to the sea to a ship that sank.

Dark and gloomy is its hull,
Quite the equal is its lull.
A song so foul the air dare not breathe,
Under a rock, it lies beneath.

Then I wandered to the sea,
Dropping to my knees, I sent a plea;
"Wont you take me in your arms?"
"I cannot resist your charms!"

The sweet embrace you might expect
Was not founded nor neglect
Only the winters touch of the cold hard glass,
Like the morning dew that covers the grass.

O' how fond, my minds retention
Dreams I held, hoping for ascension
Yet untold, my passion to sail atop that blue void--
A desire that has long since been destroyed.

Young was I and naive--my wants,
Would I die for that which haunts?
An aspiration that is misunderstood
The inquiry of whether I should or could

As it stands, my life is mine
I work and toil and find it fine
My days unending of numbers and words
O' how I wish to study the birds

Night will fall
My dreams will call
No reply
Nor question--why?

Now late--is it--my dreams untold
Soon my life will turn to gold
No equus ears, no hooves for feet,
And here I am--I've taken my seat.

My eyes turn grey
With monsters to slay
Fought, have I, long and hard
This has left me scarred.

My only fate now is to stare out from my porch
Watch the ships pass by and light my torch.
Night can fall
But not shadow nor monster can stall.

My dreams are my own
And no matter how the wind is blown
I weep enough for only the sight,
My wish will become my blight.

Only death now, is in my way
But some could easily say
Life without desire is not life at all
It is what makes us climb and fall.
