im sure youve all heard of hag syndrome or sleep paralysis rite, when you awake but your body is still sleeping and you see spirits or so forth, its called hag syndrome because supposedly a witches spirit is laying on top of you and holding you down.(which ive also heard is induced by putting a broomstick under someones bed) ive been told its very scary and most say that the apparitions are dreams bcuz your body is still asleep.
anyone had these experiences?

You will get many replies on this one. There are several here that have had sleep paralysis. I persoanlly have not had it, I do however have the lucid dreaming thing all wrapped up. Here are a few links for you to read while you wait for the replies:

Mine happened @ like 6 or 7 in the moring while I was half awake/ half asleep. I was lying in bed and I started dreaming that I went to someones house that I obviously knew in my dream. I knocked on the door and 3 girls and a guy answered and they told me to come on in and wait in the living room. So I was in sitting down in an arm chair and while waiting I was talking to their mother, and I can remember her face like I can remember my own. All of a sudden the windows and the living rooom doors blew closed and I shut my eyes. When I opened them their mother had my arms crossed over me and pinning me down and she was the most hideous thing I've ever seen. Her teeth had gone all pointy, like some demon in a horror movie, and no matter how hard I tried I could not push her off me. She was just screming and screaming the loudest screms I've ever heard. Man it was seriously the worst frieght I've ever experienced in my life and I don't think I'd wish it on anyone I know. When I woke up my ears were ringing and everyone nerve in my body was like I had been electricuted and just on total end. It was a crazy experience ... damn hag. Hope that's a good story for ya. Good post by the way thumbsup.gif

This happens to me at least once or twice a week. It is sleep paralysis in conjunction with hypnagogic hallucinations - sometimes they occur separately.
SP happens when a person is in REM sleep. Your body is always paralysed when we have REM sleep so we don't act out our dreams. Sometimes a person wakes up and it takes a few minutes for the body to transition from dream state to wake state.
Hynpagogic hallucinations are generally auditory but they can be visual too. From everything I have read there doesn't seem to be a real good explanation for this.
A lot of the time when I am drifting off I will hear people saying my name, loud banging, music, chainsaws, various sounds. Sometimes this is in conjunction with SP and I can't move or speak and it is scary. I completely understand why this is commonly viewed as something paranormal and in the moment it is hard for me to think that it isn't. I often will have an overwhelming sense of dread or fear which is only intensified by the fact I can't move.
I have read alot about this phenomena and a lot of people suffer from this and there have been a lot of scientific studies on it therefore there are a lot of documented cases.
IMO, I don't think this is paranormal at all. There is a scientific/physiological reason why this occurs and that conclusion has been made as a result of scientific research and for scientist in me that is good enough.

i for one believe that this is one of the chances you are vulnerable to the paranormal, like have you heard of between places being their gateway? like doorways, the hour of midnight which is between two days
and SP is between sleeping and awake, so i believe whatever happens could actually be happening its just that you think it is all dreams
spirits are very clever

I have suffered from sleep paralysis for years as well as having had numerous hypnogogic experiences.

The most vivid "hag" experience I had was many years ago, I was on holiday in Spain and I awoke one night in the hotel only to find, not only could I not move, but it felt like a massive weight was upon my chest. There was also an unbelievable feeling of "evil" in the room. I eventually, managed to move, I wanted with all my might to turn on the bedside lamp - I was literally terrified.

I took a deep breath and just reached out, very quickly, for the lamp switch, when I turned on the light, the feeling disappeared.

I have also had an ugly, old type of voice call out my name and say "***** I love you" - let's just say it is very disturbing, not nice and not desired lol.

any idead on how to experience it, i want to try it

Yes, I believe it to be a gateway. As for sleep paralysis, Ive no experience with that. As for the gateway it probably definately depends on how the individual reacts to it. The American Indian has no word for hallucination. I have to agree, I have no choice in the matter. As for fear. I am too old to care and curious enough to sometimes get the crap scared right out of me. But that doesn't happen often, and they seem to be as curious of me as I am of them. Sometimes they seem to be trying to show me things. The one I call "BOO" showed me how to fly. I had one grab me by the neck once. I grabbed her back and pushed her off me. After that she became more sociable. It is mostly men entities who visit. The hypnogogic and hypnopompic noise of horns honking, voices, weird sounds, is the gateway opening. When they are opened completely the covers on your bed began to undulate like waves washing up and over you, or bubbling around you like a cauldron. But that is only the beginning. Of course scientists had to come up for a label for this freaky paranormal happening. So they came up with Hypnogogic, and Hypnopompic hallucinations. The trouble is, a hallucination cannot snatch you up from your bed. (Yes it scared the sh** out of me and I fought back...then I fainted.) But though they can be rough sometimes, try not to be afraid. When you become unafraid, they become more curious about you, at least it seems the case. When you are calm, so are they. And as for the scientists.....HYPNA WHA?????

I don't think i've experienced it before because when i sleep, i sleep like a log.

It takes 3 members of my family to wake me up though laugh.gif
