A dog has become a local celebrity in China after apparently giving birth to a kitten. Vets say the cat-like animal is a dog with a gene mutation /Lu Feng

Hua Chengpeng, of Huayang village, Jiangyan city, told People's Daily that the unlikely animal was the third 'puppy' in his pet's litter.

"The first two puppies the dog produced were both normal, but when the third baby came, the whole family was very surprised to see a cat-like creature. It is a cat, not a dog at all," he said.

Local residents have been flocking to his house to see the 'kitten' which local vets say is really a puppy which looks like a cat because of a gene mutation. It apparently yaps like a puppy.

Hua says his son brought the dog home from Liaoning city, where he had been working, a year ago.

yeh i agree there are a few things in the world with strange animals that can be believed.

for example a few years ago they found the offspring of a horse and a zebra (google quagga)

however, a dog having a cat i dont htink so it would of have to been set up.

and do you notice how the two puppies look like a different species of dog as the mum.
jesspy
^ yeah the puppies do look different but at that age its hard to tell

also if the kitog was a mutation it would be around the same size as the puppies wouldnt it? I still say it was a plant these people need to find another way to make a quick dollar

people will do anything to get their 15 min of fame. fake fake fake! no.gif

I reckon it is a set-up. If the family were poor, they are looking for thousands for their story.

Now if there was video evidence of the kitten being born to the doggy, that may have been a different story....

F-A-K-E! Fake! Fake! disgust.gif

I've heard of dogs nursing kittens or cats nursing puppies, but the 2 would never give birth to a different species. I may have been born in the early morning hours, but not this morning! Cute pups & kitten though. yes.gif
Obsin
Remember that South American case of a cat having puppies or something silly.

Wht kind of gene mutation would make a dog look like a cat; and, wouldn't this sort of thing be happening all the time? This is a bunch of bull.
rosenrot
Biologically impossible. There is too much genetic difference between cats and dogs for a dog to "have a kitten". And there is no genetic disorder to make one animal look like a totally different species. I want DNA testing on those animals.
V for Vanity
There could have been a mutation? mellow.gif
frogfish
It's biologically impossible. That's all I'm gonna say.
Simple Logic
i gonna agree with every one else.....fake

That resembles a cat way too much to be a mutated dog.
Affliction
That's just plain silly, convenient how the mutation looks EXACTLY LIKE A KITTEN.

but what if the kitten barks?

Well... My kitten/cat (she's a year now) sounds like a goat blink.gif I kid you not. She has ever since she was little, my other cat mjaus like a kitten, really pathetic little mjau, and Xabi just goes "Meeeeeeehhheeheeeee" and you can hear her all over the house. Especially if she cant find you, she's like a goat crossed with foghorn. Oh yeah, and she grazes too..

I think its fake - the kitten looks waaay younger than the pups, poor thing!
frogfish
They just put a newborn kitty in with the litter of pups.
GaarasDemonicPetBunny
so freaking fake, its not possible at all, unless maybe they transplanted a cat fetus in the dog, but I still seriously doubt that.....

Ashigaru
Lets just ignore the fact that this is genetically impossible.
Daxter King
If it gets older and starts barking, then I'll believe.

I have a little demon kitty and when she gets in one of her moods she likes to speak with this really fake spanish accent, it's weird because it's obvious to everyone else because we all know she was born here in Colorado but she keeps on doing it anyway.

and she thinks she's a dog so it's, "el barko... el barko!"
