I couldn't find another post of it so heres the Hubble deep field image-its been described as 'the most important image ever taken' and shows how mindbogglingly, incomprehensively vast the universe is-it should be mandatory for people to view this.

Thanks for posting this Karl. I have seen these pictures before and knew they represented lots and lots of galaxies but I didn't realize just how many I was looking at. It is truly humbling. I am sure that even the astronomers who rattle off these huge numbers everyday were effected and amazed at that picture - it put it all into perspective.
A visit to the Hubble website is a great way to kill some time. It has taken so many amazing pictures and given us insights into the universe we would of never had without the visual images. I think many of us when we think of space or the universe tend to keep it contained to just imagining our own galaxy, which is big enough as it is, but to expand that mental picture into imagining another and another and another a million times repeated is almost to hard to comprehend, even with the pictures from Hubble. The concept that is really hard to grasp is the fact that it takes thousands and thousands of years for light to reach the earth so by the time we see the light from a star it may not even exist anymore. When you think about that and put that into context to the picture Hubble took we are basically looking back into time. We talk about time travel and really every time we look up at the night sky we are traveling back in time.

It's true-the Hubble image is incredibly humbling(I think it should be shown to all schoolkids).
As for jaw dropping- how about this link showing the various sizes of objects in our cosmos-I don't often swear but I did when I saw 'Antares' (and I thought Jupiter was big!)

Its truly amazing the detail of the Hubble images, after watching and reading the links, it puts it in perspective how irrelevant we are when you consider the size of the universe, great links Karl keep up the good posts really enjoyed the video.

I have seen a similar video. The video goes through the various sizes of objects in our star system and then through-out the cosmos

it's very impressive and makes you really think about what's going on out there how many civilizations are out there or even how many planets have the simplest of life forms

I love the hubble deep space pics. Just makes me stop. The funny part is that the universe is most likely bigger than what we see (light hasn't reached us yet or too faint)

They show the size of planets, stars, ect, compared with each other, just like karl's images but much better I advice you guys to watch them two or three times so you really get the idea. And watch just how small earth gets compared to jupiter, and watch how small jupiter gets compared to the sun, and watch how small the sun gets compared to VV Cephei. We are really really small.

Excellent vids-I don't think many folk realize how truly,incomprehensively vast many objects in the cosmos actualy are (and its good to be reminded now and again).
