If you don't believe or read the bible, how do you know what Christ was about? How do you know you are Christian? just curious..
cyurious
i used to have to go to church alot when i was a little kid but now im very questionable and i know what i believe

I think there are certain portions of the Bible that have been tampered with, omitted, rewritten...etc. As long as you have faith in God and his teachings of love I don't see a problem.
Power2the1

Theres so much in the book to guide ones life for the better. Just do not fall into the easy, modern way of watering down Christianity by taking one single aspect of Christianity (believing in Jesus) and stopping there wink2.gif
.
.
For example, if *all* we had to do was believe in Jesus and love one another (the greatest commandment, but not the *only* commandment), then whats the point in baptism, preaching, attending services, prayer, and the other thousands of pages and verses in the Bible? Whats the point of reading about faith? The Bible is the perfect guide book for ones life, and in it theres much, much more to being a Christian than *just* believing in stuff. You have to make what you learn a part of your life.
.
.
I often get a bit angry, not at people, but at those that tell them to accept the modern, "watered down" way of following Christianity give it a "drive thru" aspect of doing as little as possible, but promising the greatest rewards...

So, if you believe the Bible is a lie, and the Bible basically is the only place you can learn about the Triune God, why do you believe in Jesus or salvation? Aren't those lies then also?

I think that is inconsistant reasoning at best.

I believe in Big Macs, but not McDonalds. huh.gif

Not quite understanding how you can be a christian but not believe the teachings contained within the bible? I thought the bible was like the "guidance notes" for christians.

As Sunni said "If you don't believe or read the bible, how do you know what Christ was about? How do you know you are Christian?" Anyone who had told you or taught you about Christianity would have gained their information from the bible directly or indirectly.

How do you know you are following the right path if you don't read the map!?

Just to be curious, if you say the bible has been tampered with, then how do you know God actually teaches love? The bible says it of course, but if you think the bible is wrong?

P.S If the bible has been tampered with then how come when books of the bible e.g of the prophet Isaiah were found in the dead sea scrolls, the bible we have was exactly the same as what was in these scrolls which had been buried for 2000 years?

How can the bible have been tampered with yet remain unchanged?

I'm not Christian in any way. I don't understand how you can not believe in the Bible when that is what Christianity revolves around. Sure, humans are the ones that wrote the Bible, not God, but it doesn't make sense that you can just believe in a specific without bringing the whole spectrum into view.

Ya like one of my friends, Cyurious. He's a vegetarian, and yet he eats tons of meat every day. I once asked him how that could be, and he said that he just didn't want people to think he was a fanatic.......

It's actually interesting that this type of thing happens. People get very tired of the dogma and the bologna that goes with belonging to a specific religion, be it Christianity or any other flavor, but still wish to adhere to the underlying values inherent in said religion.

I don't offer burnt offerings and grain offerings on an alter before an ark, but thou shalt not kill still seems like a good idea. That's just an example, not my personal belief. But it seems to happen a lot.

Here is the pitfall cyurious, at least in my personal opinion. By not studying the bible and other texts pertaining to Jesus and Christianity (in your case), you risk the possibility of diluting or completely losing touch with what your saviors message was.

A lot of people criticize and wail on and on about people "picking and choosing" the parts of the bible or other books they want to follow. I say, study and pick the parts that are relevant. If turning the other cheek is relevant, go for it! If a prayer is relevant, pray! If smiting your enemy with the jawbone of an ass is relevant...you may have to reassess your saviors message.

Do me a favor everyone. Leave a comment. Am I wrong? Or am I so right, it makes no sense to argue. I'm a little tired of PM's that say "Right on." but not a single response in a thread. (I do appreciate the folks that have contacted me, don't misunderstand that. We all like to be validated now and then).

I believe in everything the BIble says. Maybe some of the things that happened, such as Noah's Ark, might be parables on how to live or the consequences of certain actions. I also believe that there are other sources from that time period that also have certain truths in them. After all, the Bible was put together by men that Constantine selected, but those men were suppose to be directed by God. I do beleve, also, that if there was somehting earth shattering God wanted us to know, we would know it. innocent.gif

Dude, your original post says I can ask questions. And asks for comments. If you don't want to discuss or answer questions, make a blog.

In that case this would be best suited as a blog entry forums are for open discussion and debates:tu:
