Hello i have been thinking latley and no mather where i look on the net no one knows..The true identity of the Gothic people..its allways we "belive"/"think" they come from sweden..Is it possible that people have been mixing in their culture whit the Vikings?
The origin of the Goth people has become quite a mysterius legend wich no one knows for sure They had to come from somewhere thats for sure, question is where?...
The Goth and Vikings did had alot incommen..can it even be possible for the goth to BE vikings?? That its simply 2 different names for them??
Or are they two different people whit simular cultures? who knows..i for sure dont...but i wish i did..

PS. I know my spelling is bad here and there so please keep annoying statements to your self original.gif

According to Wikipedia:The Goths (Gothic: Unicode: , Gutans) were an East Germanic tribe who, according to Jordanes, left Scandinavia, settled close to the mouth of the Vistula river (in present day Poland), and in the 3rd and 4th centuries settled Scythia, Dacia and parts of Moesia and Asia Minor. In the 3rd and 4th centuries, they harried the Roman Empire and later adopted Arianism. In the 5th and 6th centuries, dividing into the Visigoths and the Ostrogoths, they established powerful successor-states of the Roman Empire in Iberia and Italy.[1]

So, your idea could very well be correct.

So I guess calling people who we consider to be "GOTH" it actually wrong?

Gothic fiction, a British literary genre from the late 18th and early 19th century, with a Victorian revival a hundred years later.
From its use in Romanticism, the word in the Th century came to refer to anything dark or gloomy

So, when you look at the "Goths" of today, they took an era in history and expounded on it.

There were also the Visigoths and Ostrogoths. The original Goths were from the Medieval Era or Middle Ages. A very interesting time period of our history. If you want to know more:Medieval

The Vikings according to history had alot to do whit the founding of Scythia aswell..In sweden there has been alot of rumors if the Goth people came from a place in swedish called " Gotland" or if they were the people called " Götar" but no one knows for sure..Its an intressting people that has influenced much of europe yet finding profe of their origin has been hard..personally i think they were Vikings..since the word Viking was created becuse of the Norse Longship the word Vik is swedish for " river" or somthing like that..And vikings were knows to travel alot threw rivers and such..

Uhhh,....yeahh (lol)...
The people you're talking about are teens without an identity who dress like vampires (lol) and in black and proclaim themselves to be "Goths"...

The true Goths of ancient times would roll over in their graves in disgust if they were aware of this.

It's a subculture. thumbsup.gif

But the new "goth" is not really related to the original goths.
They just took some of the clothes, but that's it.

And... laugh.gif
To the person who said it was all teens with no identities.
Hmm... all of my friends who dress that way are around 23-25. laugh.gif

One of them is 28 and he got a kid.

Funny, now you're a teen at 25?
Wow

Well since I have two sons in their mid thirties, yes, you seem like teens to me. I consider anyone 35 and under to still have remnants of their "teen psyche" intact.
I find the desire to look pale, wear only black, have tattoo's from head to toe along with body piercings and a desire to appear as someone who drinks blood, completely bizarre. yes.gif
There are a couple good Goth bands though I suppose.

Just my opinion. I'm a product of my environment just as Goths must be eh?

Well, everyone have different taste.
Some people loves horror movies, some hates them.
Some loves comedy, some don't.
Some people likes the gothic look, music... some don't.
We can't really explain why.
I just love it. thumbsup.gif

Though u have ur opinion, and i respect that, i think we're a bit easy on the judging here. Goths are just a subculture, they're normal people with a different way of life and style. Because one can't understand them, doesn't mean they are bizarre. Its only the way they dress that differs. I don't see anything bad with piercings and tatoos, for me thats art. If we have to judge goths because they wear black and piercings etc, we can judge alot of other types of people which dont fit in 'the normality' bounds of our society, or maybe our society is just superficial? we just go as far as the looks goes most of the times.

actually not ALL goths say they drink blood, nor are tatooed and pierced from head to toe, nor are immature---i know a 42 yr old goth, he's a nice chap. I dont like generalizing.

just my humble opinion thumbsup.gif
brothers
Can;t they find any Goth's bones and do a DNA test on them to see where they really came from???

Well, true enough. I'm sure the Vikings either were the Goths or ended up marrying into another culture to create the Goths. The Vikings were everywhere they weren't just on the seas. The Swedes actually ended up being merchants since they discovered that they could make more money this way, and a lot easier than fighting for it. What do you think the Russians are? For being so far east, there sure are a lot of blonde's in Russia. According to my Medieval History class, the Russians were the mixing of the Ukrainians and the Swedes who moved there for commerce. Vikings even sacked Rome-twice! So, if they were in the area, I'm sure that they influenced the founding of the Goth culture.

The Goths were a travelling (nomadic) Germanic tribe just like the Vandals..? they originated from middle northern Europe.. possibly from the Vistula river area..? The "Gothic" culture nowadays is based upon an entirely different concept, if this is what you are trying to find out..? huh.gif There..? I even wrote my letter in gothic font for you..! how generous is that..!!! hi hi

The only thing I'm affraid is that this thread will turn into a lifestyle debate....

2. This kind of thread (Goth,Vampire etc) will raise some voice from them who are following the above lifestyle/trend/culture whatever you call it.

Offcourse there was a viking clan called Rus something and its said thats were the name Russia came from...The swedish vikings were alot to the east for exotic goods and such they had a trading colony in Kiev for example..But the thing is that Goth culture and Viking Culture isn't exactly the same wich means that finding Goth objects should be relativly easy to identify and yet it seems as scientist find it hard..strange
