Personally, Renee Zellwegger and Sandra Bullock come to mind. Why? They give to charities and want to use their wealth for good.

Eric Idle. I love that man. There are so many reasons why I admire him, I'm sure I could write an entire novel about why, but I'll spare you guys from that. I admire him for how witty and funny he is. Despite going through a lot of hellish ordeals, he still has a great sense of humor and holds his head up high. I admire him too because he's not one of those stupid celebrities that so many people follow. Eric has written novels, an entire Broadway show, many, many songs, and he knows four different languages! (English, Latin, German, and French.) Those things take brains. Another thing I admire is how much he loves his family. He's completey devoted to them. I also love how kind he is toward animals. Heck, he's an all around nice guy to anyone really. (At least he seems that way to me.)

Okay, I said I wouldn't write a novel, so I'll stop here.

Wow! I didn't know all that. I just liked his acting. There is usually so much more to a person than we really see. Thanks, MadEyePixie for sharing. thumbsup.gif

Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins, his ability to pull beauty from sadness.

I wish I had that gift of expression.

I know that not everyone likes the Pumpkins but to me their music is something special.

You're welcome, glad to pass on any information I know about the Pythons. original.gif I'm a bit of a fanatic you see.

Actually, I don't think they've come up with a word yet to describe how obsessed I am with Monty Python...

I like seeing both sides. There has to be good as well as evil. Like as well as hate.

Obviously you like to laugh judging by the names I see (except Stephen Colbert still don't know who he is).

i admire anyone who is kind to others even if the people receiving the kindness are they themselves not kind. i admire anyone who has the courage and strength to help those less fortunate. i admire those who would put themselves in harm's way to save the lives of others. i admire those who have a firm grip on reality. i admire those who seek truth through the lies. i admire those who put intelligence above beauty and the material. and finally, i admire life in all of its forms.

Hey! I'm crazy about the Pyhtons too! One of the best things mankind has ever produced!

A person I admire incredibly is ROSE SIGGINS

She was born with a rare genetic disorder that severly deformed her legs & at 2 years old, both legs were entirely amputated. At eight years old, she refused to use her artificial legs any longer. She wanted to be accepted for how she was & used a skateboard to move around.

This woman never let herself be stopped by her disability. She got married, had kids (risking her life), got a job & drives a car. In her own words:

"A lot of people with disabilities feel that life owes them something, and I was raised in a way that no, no-one owes you a dime. The world doesn't owe you anything, this is what you have and you use your resources and you get through life. My personal opinion is, get up and go for it, just do it."

As if that weren't enough, early into her marriage, she lost her mum to cancer, had to look after her own family, her father with Alzheimer's & a brother who is mentally disabled and has the mind of a child & is prone to fits of anger.

But she just got on with things. I can't express how much respect i have for her. She is strong, positive & loving. Whenever I am on the brink of having a twinge of self-pity, I think of Rose.

She is a true inspiration.

Stevie Ray Vaughan...would have probably sold my soul at the crossroads to have played the guitar 1/2 as good as he did. grin2.gif S.R.V

Rutger Hauer for his great acting and non profit charity work Starfish Foundation

John Carpender ...one of the greatest renegade directors that stuck it right up Hollywood for snubbing his brilliant talent.

There are a few more but they're just the first to come to mind...

Matthew McConaughey. Overall, great actor, great guy. Modest, caring, sensitive and intelligent. And unlike most celebrities, gives without expecting praise and admiration. And that dashing smile *swoons*

Hey, I remember watching that very documentary on Discovery Health. Only was able to catch the end, however. It was quite moving.

The way you described her reminds me of a woman in a different documentary on the same channel. I forgot her full name, though I remember her last name was Osbourne. Anyway, she, along with others who share her condition, appeared in a documentary about Treacher Collins Syndrome, a rare birth defect which causes facial deformity and is sometimes fatal if not treated with surgery. She explained how her appearance affects her everyday life, etc. She is actually a doctor and works in a hospital and usually treats other people born with birth defects or deformities so they can relate to her.

I have to admit that I am sensitive to seeing people with deformities and it scared me a bit at first, but after a minute I got used to it. However there was another documentary (same channel, same condition) I caught my mom watching once and after seeing the severity if the little girl's deformity on T.V. I had to walk out of the room.

I have a huge deal of respect for people with this condition and I admire their courage.
