JAIPUR, India (Reuters) - A 73-year-old Indian farmer who vowed not to marry before passing his high school exams has failed to get through for the 38th time.
Shiv Charan Yadav has been taking the exams -- normally given to schoolchildren at the age of 15 -- every year since 1969, without success.
This year, he failed everything except Sanskrit, scoring only 103 out of a possible 600 points.
"Once I pass I want to get married to a girl who's under 30," Yadav, who lives alone in Kohari village in the western desert state of Rajasthan, told Reuters.
He is now revising for his 39th attempt next year

Maybe he freezes up on exams when under pressure. My son does that even though he knows the answers before the test and he can answer them after.

Ya know, after the 20th time I think I would just have to pass the old fart so I wouldn't have to see him every year. Poor guy.

Good thing it's school and not university, imagine the student loan he'd have to his name if it were!

more then likely the day he passes is the day he dies. And when he gets to heaven or where ever it will turn out he will have to pass another series of exams before he can go on

Just one little thing...
He has tried to pass the exam every year since 1969, at which time he was 15. And now, 38years later he is 73? Anything I have overseen?

Talk about perseverance. I can't imagine taking an exam that many times.

The exam is given to students that are 15 yrs old; he wasn't fifteen when he started taking the exam.

If he took the test when he was 15 years old in 1969, he would have been 53 since he failed it 38 times. But he's 73, so he took the test when he was 35 o.o.

Maybe he's a genius...wait for it. He's trying to get out of an arranged marriage. People have done weirder things.

The thought of this guy getting married to anyone makes me a bit sick in the tummy.
