What would you do, if you discovered a secret, or great mystery, for example:

An alien spacecraft, underground cities, a governement cover up, something that defies physics, anything, anything at all.

9/10 of people i garantee will keep it to them selves and to there family ONLY, and the people that have opened their mouths are most prolly lieing or making it up.

Reasons, are prolly, they can be silenced by the government, other people/scientists will go looking for your discovery and steal it or damage it, and for example a civilisation already living in peace and comfort, somewhere hidden on or in earth will be corrupted and will then become like modern humans like us, which most of us are selfish, evil and disresespectful. If we come in contact with their society.

What do you think about this, share your thoughts, and what WOULD YOU DO if you discovered a secret. Ill tell you what i would do, i would keep it to myself and never tell anyone about it except for my loved ones.

and really think about it.

well i personally would at least tell the government because they could need that alien spacecraft to save the world or something.

however if i found out something was going to happen that could hurt people i wouldnt.

eg

if i was an astronemer and i found out that a meteorite was going to destroy the earth in a week i wouldnt go and tell everybody and cause a panic. it would be quicker if noone knew otherwise people would be killed and there would be riots and total anarchy on the last few days of earth.

any opinions?
louie
tell trhe public, then the government would have to keep the people informed as they investgate. so it just wouldent disapear out of public view.
rassy
If I found a gov't conspiracy of some sort, that's irrefutable, then I'd not open my mouth. Most anything else, then yes, I'd say something, moreso if I could prove it or have evidence. I'd take pics or whatever I had to do, but more likely than not, my thing would be to point loads of people in the right direction so they can collect their proof (if still available) and then it wouldn't be just me with a story to tell. Let the other people make a big deal of it.
Thozzman
I know many secrets.
I would do exactly as I do now,...keep them to myself.
Myles
Tell everyone, but not till after I had made all the money I could from it.
hnnjsn
it would depend whether or not that i was instructed to keep my mouth shut. integrity. sleepy.gif
Tannenisis
Depends on the secret. I'd rather have the information put out in the public arena than hand it over to the government first.

if there were something truly secretive like that, I'd keep it to myself. No need trying to make money off of it, no need to go about and tell people about the space craft I found. Besides, what the hell makes you think if humans SAW a spacecraft they'd know it actually was one?
Mme Mel
For all of the examples except for gov't conspiracy, I'd collect enough documentation to convince researchers and/or news-crews to check it out for themselves, and then quietly go public. For a gov't conspiracy, if it didn't actually threaten lives or wellbeings, I might be tempted to let them keep it and simply write it into my memoirs. I don't care if they ended my life, but they might threaten those around me.
MoonPrincess
I'll keep it to myself really. Because I couldn't trust anyone else with it. I'll be the only person who'll know.

Wise decision. I can say from personal experience that telling a secret to anyone (especially here, lol) is a mistake.
You are 100% correct, in keeping it to yourself.

Is this related to your other thread, where you knew secrets and wouldn't tell them?
This doesn't make you look mysterious or powerful, you know.

i'll make my own underground society devoted to such super secrets. like the Illuminati(if such society exists) . and it would go on for generations and generations.

I would trawl internet forums dropping hints as to the secret I had discovered and see who bites
I would then start my own private forum away from public gaze and invite those posters to become members so we can discuss it privately and get to the bottom of it ensuring that these people were skilled in either research or knowledgable in certain areas so I could develop this secret in its entirety
I would then write a best selling book on the subject and make a fortune

w00t.gif rofl.gif ...... I don't know what I'd do. I think if it was something alive like Big Foot or Nessie or I wouldn't tell anybody cause they would just catch it and put it in a cage for study. I know what I wouldn't do. I wouldn't come here and say neener neener I have a secret, but I wont tell you. Then wonder why nobody believes me. blink.gif
Harmon-E Cherry

My behavior would totally depend on the nature of the secret.

If it was something involving a government cover-up (in which people could be harmed) I'd probably send anonymous tips to the news media.

If it was archeological ruins, I'd probably tell a few universities and museums (so that they could control access to the site and it wouldn't be destroyed by a mass of people looking for gold or whatever.

If it was an alien spacecraft I'd probably report it to a number of academic astronomers, followed by NASA.

My decision on what to do would be determined by:

1. if the secret was fragile, don't create a public stampede.

2. the people around me are basically entitled to the Truth-- the best way to be sure that people have the truth is distribute it to so many people that no one cancover it up. Distributing it over a wide area would also protect the people who had the information (e.g.- killing someone to "shut them up" wouldn't make sense if the info was already in public domain)

Yes it sounds selfish but it's the best course of action. Unless you want to be hounded relentlessly by those who refuse to believe any claim no matter how much evidence you have.
I'm convinced they would proclaim the evidence invalid, your investigating scientists crazy, and the entire thing a delusion.
They would say that you hoaxed the entire thing and the scientists were in on it with you.
You would be chastised, made fun of, and the general public would believe that you're a lunatic.

Best to keep any "secret" to yourself.

I have to agree with you REBEL, this would be the way to go. Once completely public (especially in our information driven society) there would be no going back so to speak.

Outright suppression of the secret would not be possible. However, I'm not sure that those with the power might not still be able to gain an element of control over it (depending upon exactly what the particular secret entailed). It's like my Dad used to say, "The world runs via 'the golden rule'...them that has the gold...rules".

LOL! I hear ya Lilly bout 'those in power' and the golden rule, which basically sux, they seem to control every aspect of our lives.
But if you gather enough of the masses together in exposing a secret then the 'majority rules'...you would think anyway.

I could just picture millions of people converging all at once on secret government bases like Groom Lake or Area 51 for example and seeing it for themselves, ''the truth once and for all'' devil.gif

Unless I had some believable, exceptional proof, I would never go to the government...They would debunk it, like they do most things....If I knew a secret and it was going to harm people, i may go to the FBI....Otherwise I would just share it with prople I trust and get their opinion on what to do....I wouldn't want to handle something like that alone..... dontgetit.gif

IF it was such a big secret....what makes anyone think they would be safe? People have been killed for knowing things they shouldn't. I would make damn sure one way or another that if I died, EVERYONE would know the secret I died for.

In 1995 I discovered some secrets and told only a few. 5 days ago I found the secrets that I held (I was not completely sure if it was true) had come out not long ago and there was MUCH more to it than I had found. I ended up learning more in 36 hours than I did in 30 years. I am still completely blown away and trying to recover some sort of normalcy. What I knew was just a flake of snow on an iceburg. And more info is still comming hourly.......

what was your secret ?

UtahRaptor
I feel than it may be unwise to answer your question. But instead I will pose a few other questions.

Who invented the light bulb? (any fool can give the answer to that one)

Who invented the telephone? (again, any fool can tell you that)

Who invented the automatic transmission? (that one is a bit harder since the patent was acually stolen from my great grandfather, there are not many who know the true answer)

Now, who inveted the television?
If your lucky you may find the patent on it, but (as fas as I know still) there is absolutly no name attatched to the patent. There are inventions and technological advances such as the TV that bear patents but no names attatched to them at all. Where did they come from? Did they just fall out of the sky or pass through a membrane from another reality? Did God one day say: "let there be TV" and poof here it is? (and it was good)

John Logie Baird (August 13, 1888 – June 14, 1946) was a Scottish engineer and inventor of the world's first working television system. Although Baird's electromechanical system was eventually displaced by purely electronic systems (such as those of Vladimir Zworykin and Philo Farnsworth), his early successes demonstrating working television broadcasts and his colour and cinema television work earn him a prominent place in television's invention
