Hey guys. I'm arising my junior year of highschool and I plan on trying out for Varsity volleyball. I've played at friends houses and stuff, but never for the school team before so I'm a little nervous because I don't know what to expect. What do you think are my chances of making it? Thank God it's summer, so I have the chance to practice. In a school team are individual players assigned to certain positions or do you switch off? I'd like to play libero because I'm short and well, playing center wouldn't work out too well. tongue.gif

Do you think lack of experience will hurt me, as opposed to the other girls who have been playing longer? I signed up for vball camp which is at the very end of next month, and I don't want to make a fool of myself, so spare me please and fill me in!

Hi, volleyball is one of my favorite sports after football and basketball especially women volleyball but I do not like beach volley, actually I do not have any opinion about the system of volleyball in U.S tongue.gif
If you want to be a libero;1-you should have good reflexes 2-you should control your bump passes in order to make playmaker comfortable 3-you should be good at digging and holding the zone.
I think these are the basics for a libero according to my opinion as a spectator original.gif. Except first one others can be improved by working. If you have got talent and trust on yourself, lacking experience is not important. Also if you decide to be a professional in future, you can make good money in European teams(again i do not know the salary in U.S). U.S national team libero Nicole Davis played for my team last season thumbsup.gif. Enjoy your camp…

How are we supposed to know? we have never seen you play, maybe if you supplied us with a video for us to judge your skill.
But I'm not sure that would be allowed.

Apart from completely humiliating yourself, what's the worst that could happen? tongue.gif

Might as well give it a shot!

Well, take this from a guy who lives in a little village that is bassicly the capitol of Norwegian volleyball, that has won the the norwegian championship several times, that half the national team lives here and that every single girl I know is doing this crappy sport and (what was my point again), oh yeah, if you have barely played volleyball before I doubt your changes are really any good.

But, compared to soccer, handball and sports like that, volleyball is a sport where natural talent is suprislinly important. E.g, I remeber a time a guy in my class (who had barely played volley before) bet three girls (that has been playing it for years) 21-11 in beach volley.

But, what the heck do I know, besides as raptor said, what`s the worst that could happen?

Hun- I come from a VERY athletic family. It's not about size or knowledge. Just PASSION. Start a running regime, exersize for flexability and be agressive as all HELL!! So, basically if you think you are "too short" train your body to jump higher. It's all relative to how much YOU really want it...can you taste it? Then go get it!! Passion hun...it's all about the passion and desire.

Everyone makes volleyball.. just give it your best effort. I have seen a lot of teams created on players who give effort and lack expirience, as well as talent. These teams have gone on to do great things. You would be surprised. IMO volleyball is one of the easiest teams to make in highschool, and its been that way in both of the highschools I have been in. Although, I see that you are living in the US so it might be a bit different over there.
