Hi, everyone. This is my first post. I'm a 'Cryptid Illustrator'. I love a good fake picture, (mine are done for entertainment purposes only

) and am hoping for the day when someone gets a real, detailed, closeup shot like this. I modeled the creature in a program called Zbrush and it was inspired by the reports of pleisiosaurs off the coast of Austrailia. Anyway,.......I hope this makes you smile abit. Oh, and don't believe everything you see. Cheers. Richie. (Link below.)

nice pick-- can you do a 'flying -webber grill" as a UFO ?

Jun 19 2007, 11:25 PM
Wow, that's a good picture. But I always thought plesiosaurs had longer necks than the creature in your picture. I think it was a different type of prehistoric aquatic reptile.
And do you have any more you have done of aquatic cryptids such as champ, ogopogo, and nessie?
ps. you might want to post this in the artist's and writer's forum.
EDIT: nevermind, I did find that some species of plesiosaur did have shorter necks like the one in your picture.

Hi, zukie&jim, thanks. A weber grill----not a bad idea.
Hi rosenrot, yeah it's kinda a pleisiosaur-ish creature,...a little artistic license used. I do have others, Nessie among them. I'll check out the other forum.
Thanks for looking. Richie.

Nice pics, but I'm a bit concerned: It doesn't really help our cause in trying to prove/disprove the existence of cryptids. By this I mean, be prepared to have your pics swiped by someone trying to "prove" that dinosaurs are still alive (notice I stayed away from accusing Creationists, though I still can't understand where dinosaurs come into their beliefs... Dinoriders??). But then you have marked them rather strategically, so you should be alright. Top work though!

Greeting everyone,
supervike and Urisk. I have struggled with just that idea. I don't think my pics are undetectably as far as being created. I could show you where they fail. I don't make them to fool anyone. You're point is very valid though, cause when I first started this I made a picture of a dinosaur in a Zoo. I went to the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha and shot the background at the Rhino Paddock, inserted a sculpted dino and put a sign on the fence that said 'Dinosaur'. I showed it to some people at work and one lady actually believed it was real and was anxious to go see it. I explained that I made it and she was dissapointed. Maybe I should stamp them as artwork.

I love a good hoax photo and am amazed at what people hold up as evidence without even looking at it. I'm starting to ramble here. Thanks for your input.
Glad you like it
Luke1990.lil gremlin, my thanks to you too.
capoeiranger yes, I like the look of old photos.
I'll try to post another tonight.
Again, thanks to all of you for your time. Richie.

If you want to have a good old-timers likepictures, try add some washed/tear effect on the pic. Darken the pic a little bit, and you'll get that!
I notice the head of the creature, did you mix up 2 different creatures to create a single monster? My bet is that the head came from a Stegosaur or maybe I was wrong...keep up the good job! And oh, you might want to add a "OFFICIALY HOAX" stamp with your signature under it, in case that people will go crazy and start filling the net with your pics and you ended up getting the bad fruit.

Very nicely done, realistic-looking, but Supervike is right, it's only a matter of time before you see one of those images on some other website with the heading: "I just got a photo of this AMAZING creature, what do you think???!!!"
You don't do 'Ol Footy or Seņor Chupacabra, do ya?

Hey don't get me wrong, they are fantastic peices of art! In fact, the concerns of mines and Supervike should be a compliment! Thanks for sharing them, and I look forward to seeing more in the future.

In fact, it would be very cool to see one done of a piece of Scottish folklore!

I dunno, maybe the kelpie, each uisge, fachan, glaistig or maybe even... I dunno, the Urisk?

Certainly be a challenge. but that's the fun of it, I suppose, having touse your imagination.
rosenrot
Jun 20 2007, 11:17 PM
Ohhh, I'd love to see some of the kelpie or each uisge. Possibly some of the North American water beasties Ogopogo or Caddy. Please
And have you ever done a recreation of the Sergueon's photo of the Loch Ness Monster?

Hi everyone, sorry I took so long to reply.
capoeiranger- yes I have one I may post called 'Passing' of the Nessie model behind a cruize ship and I gave it the worn stained effect. I see my pics as what a Cryptozoologist back in the Civil War days might have done. Like Matthew Brady. You're right about the Stegasaur connection. I have another pic I'll post that's a closer shot underwater called 'No Swimming'. I may do a signature-stamp, too. My Nephew is a well-known Storm Chaser who has become famous for his pictures taken by others and claimed to be what it's not. One was said to be a shot of 'Katrina' that went around the world. Another was used by a kid to win a photo contest at a county fair but was found out.
Hi Onyx- Is 'Old Footy a Bigfoot? The Chupa would be interesting.
Hi Urisk. Thanks for the compliment. Ther're are better artists than me by far. You may have heard of Rick Baker, the Make-up Artist. He stops in at ZbrushCentral and blows us all away with his work.
Greetings, rosenrot- yeah a kelpie would really be fun. So many creatures to choose from. Yes, I'd like to do the Surgeons photo. That's one that has amazed me it went as far as it has without realizing it's fake. First of all, it's as stiff as a board, the head is very sharply carved, and right infron of the neck is an object sticking out of the water casting a shadow on the surface. That's obviously part of the toy sub it's sitting on.
Thanks to all of you for your support. I appreciate it. More to come.
Richie.

Great work Rich, I'd like to see you do a "realistic" dragon of a type that may have inspired the depictions of dragons in Sumerian art.
Rose, This creature looks a bit like Lipeurodon, a monstrous short neck, bigger headed version of plesiosaurs that was believed to prey on other marine reptiles. If Nessie was one of these, it would not be a good idea to swim in Loch Ness. It received great populaity after being featured in Walking with Dinosaurs, where it jumped out of the water and swallowed a big theropod dinosuar whole, like an orca would swallow a seal!
This is also the basic form of the monsters from the miniseries Surface, that were created by scientists to devour the human race into extinction while the scientists hid in their underground bunkers.
