Greetings everyone, I started a thread in the Cryptid forum and was told about this 'hangout' for artists and writers,...so here I am hanging out. I do 'Cryptid Illustrations' with computer modeling and scuptography (my word). Here's a couple, I'll post more later. I'm hoping for the day when you can see detailed, closeup, beautiful photos of Nessie in a Wildlife Gallery,...untill then, here's mine. I hope you like'em. Cheers, Richie.

Hi, Celumnaz, I really believe it will happen, can you say: 'Million Dollar Snapshot'?
Hi, Urisk, yeah, I hated that they never showed Big Blue.
Many thanks, rosenrot.
Thanks for looking everyone. I have a few more to post. Maybe some UFO stuff too.

This is the 3rd in my Cryptid Illustrations. It's called a Mouthfish cause from the front it's pretty much mouth and teeth. Modeled and rendered in Zbrush. (This creature DOES NOT EXIST) For your entertainment. Richie. link below.

Your MOUTHFISH is really creepy. It almost looks like a cross between a frog and a fish. Keep up the good work.

Wow, excellent work.
That's about how I've always imagined a really good picture of Nessie might look.
Great job!

Hi, Urisk, yeah, I hated that they never showed Big Blue.
You know, if you have the DVD, you can access a deleted scene that shows Big Blue, and he looks nearly EXACTLY like that pic you made.
Also, that Mouthfish is now my Desktop.

Jun 23 2007, 09:34 AM
Oh, I wish they wouldn't cut scenes we'd like to see. I'm glad the Mouthfish found a good home. I fired up Zbrush3 to do a quick frontside render showing the mouth, but the model was made in Z2 and wouldn't load in 3, which hasn't happened yet. I did keep Z2 though so maybe I can still do it.

I have no idea how you use ZBrush, I downloaded the trial a little while back.. the interface is just.. well confusing, for me at least. So I'm totally in awe of how you do this stuff

I'm also loving how you get the old photo look, is that done in ZB or do you PS that Richie?

Jun 23 2007, 11:35 AM
Hey, blobs, yeah Zbrush has a pretty good learning curve and you never seem to stop learning. Z3 is way beyond Z2 and I haven't done much in it yet. The plugin I use is called
'VIRTUAL PHOTOGRAHPER' and is free from the link below. Very high-end. Limitless adjustments. It works in Photoshop, PaintShopPro, PhotoImpact, (which is what I use). ect. You can download free presets, also. If you try it, let me know what you think. Richie.

Cheers for the link Richie, although my trial ran out a long time ago now and I'm pretty sure I won't be able to re-install to try that plugin out.
Oh and on your comment in my thread, trust me the paint brush/pen/pencils are
constantly arguing with me!

I like your newest one but on this one there seems to be a line around Nessie, on the others it might have been there but I never noticed it , and so they always meshed with the photos brilliantly. I don't think it's quite working on this one,
although it does have the nice effect of looking like a Ray Harryhausen (sp?) monster....

EDIT: Doh! I just realised the filer's for PS, I'll give it a shot then, thanks!

Hey,
blobs. Your welcome for link. This one is a full version. Don't remember if you have to register or not, though. I suppose even the great artists struggle with the process. Maybe some just make it look easy. Boy, I'm not seeing the line you mentioned, I certainly don't want one there. I'll have to enlarge it. Shouldn't be there, it was not a cut and paste, but rendered as a composite in Zbrush. And thanks for the Harryhausen comment, wow, that makes my day. Big fan of his, met him once. Have 3 of his books. Some posters and lobby cards. I hope you show some more paintings. Richie.
This was my weekend project. Done as a 16x20. I think this was probably on of those over-the-shoulder while running shots.

Richie.

The line I'm on about is like that cutout line from the Harryhausen movies.. it's not something you've drawn.. I guess it's like the green screen effect, where you just know it's not part of the background.
I wish I had some Harryhausen memorabilia, I'm a huge fan of his stuff.. sigh.. Ebay here I come

This last pic of yours is my favourite. The movement is fantastic, is that done with a filter too? I'd get rid of his flippers though, the far one looks like it could be part of the land behind and I didn't notice the one infront of his body initially.
But yeah, kick ass.. this is great, cinematic stylee that I've just never been able to do with my artwork.. well cool

Yeah, the old '
traveling matter fringe' that was a dead givaway before computers. I just got his latest book for my B-day.
'The Art of Ray Harryhausen'. Mainly his drawings through the years. Wow, what an illustrator!! My biggest collection piece is a 6-sheet from
Mysterious Island, about 8 foot square. never hung. I decided not to hang it after seeing the cost of glassing it. I should probably E-bay that.
The last one was inspired by and old World Map Illustration of a creature rising up with little flippers like that. Kinda useless little things. Yeah, I used a motion blur on him, I also did one without it, wasn't sure about it. Kinda hides the detail I worked so hard on. Man, I'd love to see you paint a Nessie=like picture, maybe Urkqurt (?) Castle in the background. Here's one more, it's actually a small crop of a larger picture. in a weird mood again. Later, blobs.

Actually I like it without the diver parts in it. It gives the impression that it is being taken from a small submersible.

Ahh this last one's great, nice lined effect too. I'm liking the way that it takes a while to pick out the beasty.
I'll probably get round to painting a nessie eventually, although I have some work on at the moment so it'll probably be a while.
I'd like to see divers too

Yeah, incase anyone can use the plugin, here is the link. I always liked the look of Nightvision, it also does tv effects. I'm upgrading mine now from an earlier release. We'll be waiting for your Nessie painting. Richie.

Richie, I've been meaning to ask you whether that plugin works fine with PS7? It's a bit of a different install from the other plugins I've tried and I don't want to risk cocking up my settings

Thanks in advance
