Those are some amazing cloud structures. I wonder if these could structures could spawn some of the UFO sightings.

All you need for UFOs is a bit of overcast, than they can fly undetected.

Erm... ok. This cloud's shapes were problably produced due to the wind currents, yes they are very rare but they can happen. Clouds are wind's toys really, the wind moves clouds, shapes them ect...............
I dont know why but they look like candy

Some of the clouds sure do look strange ,the series of 4 photographs (16th down) look truly freaky:
http://pic1.piczo.com/valuca/?g=25544746And the Aurora Borealis images look bonkers!

It is east to see how these clouds could be mistaken for UFOs. The pics of clouds covering mountaintops really remind me of the end of the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind, when the alien ship comes down to the mountain to communicate with the people.
Awesome!

http://pic1.piczo.com/valuca/?g=25544746Zu13,yes Lenticular clouds have long been known to pilots/aviation professionals as resembling saucer shaped objects (yet UFO reports from highly trained professionals still persist).
Id be interested in your opinion of the series of four photographs on the link above (16 th down)-the cloud/object seems to have a reddish interior and looks truly bizarre.

http://pic1.piczo.com/valuca/?g=25544746They would be exceedingly strange if they were in fact mammatus clouds...
These are lenticulars...a very different cloud formation.
StarMountainKid posted photos of mammatus form clouds.
Both can be pretty freaky looking, however!

Mt. Rainier has produced some really spectacular lenticular clouds (there are some good pic of Mt. Rainier on that site too!)... I've seen them about 5 times in the 40 years I've lived in WA.
I have NO doubt that they've been mistaken for UFO's in this area... The mountain is known for it's UFO sightings for sure. I would not be surprised if what people are really seeing is lenticulars.
Neat-o stuff! I think maybe the only other weather oddity that's neater than seeing a lenticular cloud is maybe seeing a water spout. I've only seen one of those, it was well.. far out!
