I have eight tattoos myself. WIth a 9th one in the planning stages. I can't wait to get that one done but it will be awhile. I have a very close friend that owns a tat shop and he is doing a dragon design that will cover my entire right leg, scars and all. We have to wait at least another year to start though.
Here are some of the ones I have now. I have my belly button pierced, eyebrow, tragus and belix on bothe ears plus the normal earrings places.

I used to have a tattoo that I did to myself with a sharp pen and a lot of spare time, it was an ankh on the base of my left thumb, on the back, at the very bottom where it is sort of the bottom of the hand. Though I stopped drawing it in and in a couple week's time it faded and now it is not visable at all. Every now and then I'll do that, it hurts quite a bit but I like the result, it is more of a raw and fresh sort of thing, the skin absorbs the ink but as the skin is washed it flushes it out. By all means it was a tatoo and would have remained if I had kept maintaining it, but of course my mother didn't like it that people would come up and ask if that was a real tatoo, which of course by "real" meaning permanent and I would always say "No" of course, since it was not, but my mother had a problem with people getting the idea she'd actually permit me to a permanent tatoo. My mother is all about keeping up appearances and therefore she is sensitive to things that belong to her, such as her child, for now anyways, when I'm 18 I no longer have to live here, though I have no intentions to just up and leave, I'd need money to do that and I doubt I can earn enough by that time to sustain myself out of her house. But ah, back to tattoos, I've done 3, most recently was the ankh, and longest lasting. Then I had an eye, and before that, the first one, was a bent clock, bent on purpose with bent hands, and all the numbers read "13" in jagged letters. No piercings, never will get piercings, deathly afraid when it comes to that area and creating holes in my body, no I think I'll pass there.

I don't have my nipples pierced

Well, I have no tatoos.
Don't think that I would want any either, I just don't have that high a tolerance for pain.
I do however, have a couple of peircings:
3x Lobes
1x Beauty Spot (On the right)
I use to have a nose peircing (on the right as well, but took it out when I got my beauty mark done), and a couple more in the cartelige. But I just thought that it looked a bit excessive, and at the time I was going to a private girls school where they gave me the ultimatium between my peircings and my school.
I left

But I also took out my others as well...
So I am happy at 7

Guess what ....in fifteen years, when you are thirty...the tattoo/piercing FAD will have played itself out...and you will be so glad you never participated.
Piercings and tattoos don't make a person bad. However, tattoos ....ALL tattoos...turn into indecipherable blobs of ink in as little as 20 years...so, when you are a grandmother, your kiddos will be asking why you have big blobs of ink...
Hey sister....you rock!

Well I didn't have my tattoos until after I was 30, so my skin was already pretty stretched when I got them.
I'd already had my kids and I waited that long so maybe they won't be blobs when I'm 60.
And I am a bad person.

I'm thinking about getting some more tattoo's.. I have a few small ones but I want to get some larger ones now. I'm thinking I might get both the undersides of my forearms tattoo'd like serpent skin, but going all the way down to the little fingers.. so having the edge of the hands and the little fingers as like the side view of the heads of the snakes. So with two hands meeting in prayer its like two coloured snakes coming together.. or something like that.. I'm still working out my ideas but I'm thinking I would like more than less this time.. and I really want some colour now. lol. But yeah... I'm not sure what all the other parents will think when I take my son to school.. probably something similar to what all the kids thought when mum stitched an Iron Maiden patch on the back of my denim jacket way back in primary school.. It was whispered.. "I cant believe he ruined his new jacket"..

Piercings and tattoos are not a fad, people have been modifying their bodies for thousands of years and will continue to do so. I have no problem with people who don't like them, it's my choice to have them, they choose not to.
As to my tattoos fading and turning into blobs - that's fine. I'd rather be sat in a nursing home explaining them to my grandkids than sat wishing I had got them. At least I'll have stories to tell.

Just because they pre-date modern civilization does not mean they are not a fad. They most certainly are. How else do you explain every other 20 year old girl with a tattoo on her lower back? Or a piercing in her navel? I don't have a problem with people who have them...I just don't think it a good idea to do something...anything...because everyone else is...tats are fashionable right now...and that is what a fad is.

Sorry, I dont see this as a fad. I Didn't get my tats because someone else had one. Mine are all original and very well done. I have had a few of them longer than 20 years and they are not an indechipherable blob. Nor are the ones of the many people I know that have had them 40+ years. If they turn into a blob then they obviously weren't done right to begin with. I do however agree with you that many people are getting them because it is the "in" thing to do and those are the people that will regret it. Please do not lump everyone that has tattoo or piercing into one large group. There are many different reasons that people get ink.

I have my ears pierced twice one each and one up the top (hat hurt the most)
I also have my navel done.
I wanted my tounge pierced soo bad but my mum wouldnt have it, and now i have a permanent retainer behind my teeth i cant because it will ruin it but oh well!
As for tats- none for me. i like the idea, but i also think of "when im older..." i dont think i want to be an old grandma at the beach with my grand kids showing my not so sexy tats off (as when your old, nothing seems to be that appealing...)
if i did ever get one 9whic i probably wont id want it on my lower back!!!!! or i would get my kids name somewhere discreat. A tat would have to have meaning to me, and id never get a flower, butterfly or star.
I had a friend who had kermit the frog on her hip
One who got angel wings on her back
one who got an outline of a star on his forearm (when he was drunk)
i knew a guy who got "schoolies 06" (end of high school holiday party over here in australia) on his back- big and bold.....
it funny and interesting to see what people get on their bodies for what ever reasons!!!

2 ear piercing on each ear lobe.
Had upper ear (cartilage ?) done but got bored and the hole closed in.
No tattoo's. I'm a whimp. It scares me. Plus, I don't think I could never decide what to get. Too permanent for me. I don't want to be 84 with a rose in my cleavage or something...that's just me.

ok here we go again,,,,there are certain tattoo styles that are fads,,the tramp stamp that is so popular right now,,,some of the tribal work,,,but tattoos arnt a fad they have been in american culture for far to long,,they have tattoo designs that are timless,,i mean that 50yrs ago they were god and 50yrs from now they will still be a gret piece of art,,,,the stigma of tattoos are starting to wear off,,meaning your not a biker or a sailor or criminal to have a tattoo anymore,,its dr's lawers priests,,moms dads grandmas..there is no line anymore every walk of life gets tattooed now...
and as far as them looking like a blob in 20yrs only if you get a poor quality tattoo thats to small with to much detail in a small area........i worked in a tattoo shop for almost 5 yrs ivegotten plenty and learned even more.o and far as looking at someone heavily tattooed and thinking poor white trash,,,i pay 100$ and hour to my friend and artist and have as much as 8 hours in one piece...

Lol I've never heard the term tramp stamp before. But I knew that wasn't what I wanted. I wanted a tattoo because I wanted people to see it, but I also wanted to be able to hide it when I wanted to.
I have to agree with everything asc.rudeboy said. Too much detail and a poor job will result in a crap tattoo down the track
I had my own design I had drawn and took it to several tattooists before choosing the one guy who would do it. The best thing you can do is talk to the proffessionals when you're looking at getting a tatt. They really are artists in every sence of the word, who want their work to be apreciated.

no no no,,,it wil not help at all you only think it will,,,for one youll bleed a lot more,,since your blod will b thined rom the alchol and closer to the surface of your skin,,youll probably get really dizzy and throw up,,,
getting tattooed is not that bad, more then likely your first one will be small and everything weill be over with before you know it,,,,if you want it dont be scard go for it,,,if you dont want one really be honest with yourself and dont blame it on fear,,,,go get one get what you want,,,and learn something about yourself..itll happen with out you even knowing it

I have two tattoos.
This one I'm sure everyone will recognize. It was my first one and it took me ten years to decide what to get. I have a serious facination with anything Egyptian. I need to get it touched up and I would love to have my name in heiroglyphs (like my avatar picture) done under it.

The second I don't have a picture for. It's the Chinese symbols for Mother, Daughter, Son on my outside right ankle in black. It obviously represents myself and my two children. One day I may have some flowery vine thing added. I'm not sure though.
I'm thinking I'd like one more. One in colour between my shoulder blades. Not sure what yet. Maybe my zodiac symbol. Who knows.
I have three peircings in one ear and four in the other. I've also toyed with the idea of an eyebrow or one that spans across the ear, but my son is only a year and a half and I can see it ending badly for me!

As for a fad, I don't think so. It took me ten years to decide what I wanted! I'm not to concerned of what people will think when I'm 80. Most of them will have tattoos too!

I had 2 piercings on my lower lip but i got tired of em and took em out. As for tats both of my calf's are sleeved, the left calf is sleeved with tombstones from family members and friends who have passed away which i add to every time someone passes away. The right calf consists of a Chinese dragon, albino anaconda, and a vampire bat. My right bicep is currently being colored in should be finished next week of the grim reaper. BTW I'm of course addicted to ink love the feeling
