I am glad to see this topic is still strong. its been a while since me and my group have been there. the theory about the spirits being shy is correct. my group and ollie12 went to the theather and tested it. we got more of a responce when its just 2 people exploring. we do have a few new EVP's since i last posted. PM me if you wish to hear them. Also ollie12 has a bunch of pics i need to get and post up. since we have heard more info on what the cemetary is and it truely is, we would like to conduct another night time investigation. we will have our normal equipment and possibly a ouija board. we are planning for this week so if anyone wants to go, please PM me and let me know so i know whos coming. srry for being away from the topic for a while.

rolleyes.gif Has anyone done any in depth research into the history of the area? There could have been a little community
in the area founded by ex slaves at one time which might account for the cemetery and I think mention was made of a church, which is associated with it.

Were there any battles fought in the area? Was it mainly farm land or what? Research might uncover possibly
the source of the paranormal activity in the area. Has anyone contacted any of the black community leaders for info on the cemetery or area ?

Doesn't sound like a place I would want to be at. Strange businesses fail in the area. Kind of reminds me of the Black Hope Horror case.I believe it was also in the Houston area.It was a tv movie with I think Patty Duke and based on
real live happenings in a subdivision that was built over a black graveyard.
The residents involved sued the builder if I'm correct. Will have to look it up on Google.
Could this location be in that same area as the Black Hope Horror?

I used to live on 1960! I lived there for about a year...before I moved back to South Carolina. I wasn't interested in hauntings back then, just girls...hahaha. Wish I would have known about the 1960 overpass haunts! I wonder if it was even built in 1984?

I've lived in Atascocita for 7 years and have passed the areas being discussed several times and heard the rumors so since I didn't have anything to do tonight I decided to google it and found this discussion and joined the site. I've been trying to get some friends to go check the places out and if anyone has any evidence I would love too see or hear it.

You would get more responses if you were alone. try it once just to see how it goes. I tried it twice and alot of activity.

Hi Dolly,

I did some questioning and spoke to a gentleman that I met at my job. He indicated that his grandfather had relatives that lived in the area just before all the developments took place in the Humble area. The area around where the 1960 overpass area in 59 existed a small black community. These residents were constantly harrassed by residents from New Caney, Porter, and Splendora. Splendora was a town which was most active for the KKK movement in this area and constantly harrassed the residence of this small community and some allegations that there were lynchings and killings. This gentleman cannot confirm if these incidents did occur but did mention that is what was told by his grandfather who had relatives that lived in this community. I asked if his grandfather could answer additional questions but was told that he passed away six years ago. That is the most I can provide from this person and I can also attest that Splendora is active for KKK membership.

Hello everyone, my name is Codie. Me and my friend Kenny recently found out about this location and today Wednesday May 7, 2008 went to locate it so we could go back tonight with our other friends. We went along the train tracks on the side that is behind the old dollar theatre and now behind that storage building. We found a trail leading to what looked like a driveway and an elementary school. There were a couple of houses there as well but we did stumble eventually upon a site that had cender blocks and a concrete staircase(3 steps). Is this the location of the old cult church? If so it is gone and nothing remains but broken glass and some fragments and a pile of bricks. We thought we would end up in the cemetery but obviously went the wrong way somewhere. We did capture some pictures of this area and a couple of outlines and mysterious outlines appear..one sitting on the steps, and one large object off in the distance behind the steps with a strange glowing subject, which neither of these are there when you are looking at it in real time. Anybody else that would like to join us tonight IM me at SoonerFtBall28 on AIM or email me at OU_Sooner2007cf@yahoo.com

Well, this place has now made it into the national spotlight. Not for paranormal activity, but because two kids decided to dig up a skull to use for a bong. As we've said before, this place has undesirables roaming around and this is proof. Here are the links to the national and local stories:

you'd have to break in to get pictures of the inside.. i stuck my hand in thru the ticket booth window slot deal and took a pic. you can see like white lookin mist..

Also got a pic of behind the theatre cuz thats the most interesting to me, if you've read any of my posts about the bell ringing. I'll try to upload those files as well. I never could record for more than a minute cuz thats what my cell phone allowed... so i would ask the question, then start recording, and the bell would immediately start ringing.. changing in intensity and speed as it pleased.

the pictures behind the theater include one of the bell itself with an orb, and the pipe underneath the bell that flowed water when it rang, also with an orb. The water in the picture looks brown and dirty, but in person, it was not...

I saw a story about the two teens on Fox 26. Here's a link to a video with some footage of Christians in the woods afterwards doing prayers and whatnot. It also has some relatives of the people in the cemetery talking about it and giving some history: http://www.myfoxhouston.com/myfox/pages/Ne...mp;pageId=3.2.1

What my coworker told me about his Grandfathers relatives history is true.

http://www.hcnonline.com/site/news.cfm?new...35652&rfi=6.

This area was the site for racism and segregation. I can see why this area is haunted. I see why the spirits are shy unless you go alone.

Hi. I've been lurking for a couple of weeks. I live in Atascocita, a few miles from Humble. Some friends and I tried to find the cemetary a few nights ago. We did find a path, and managed to get into the woods. It was very dark and we had our cameras and a flashlight. We didn't see anything. While we were in the woods, actually pretty close to the cemetary but we didn't know it, we did hear footsteps walking in our direction. We were heading beack out of the woods, and the footsteps were coming from our left and heading out to the same path, where whomever it was would have met us at the entrance, like we were at one of a V and it was at the other, and we were meeting at the point.

We searched the area we were hearing the steps from, and they were heavy steps, but couldn't see anything. We figured we couldn't see because it was overgrown in that area. Anyway, my friend screamed really loud, figuring we'd scare away an animal, but it still kept walking. So we ran to the entrance we had come in from and blazed, lol.

We went back again this morning to find the actual cemetary. We walked down a little further from where we originally entered the woods a few nights before. We could see the cemetary through the brush by the tracks. It has been cleaned up a lot since the "skull bong" incident. One of the guys with us had one of those magnet reader things and did notice 2 large spikes in the cemetary. They were fleeting and when going over the same areas again, he didn't experience them again. We really didn't see or feel anything unusual there. I do have pictures and will post them.

We decided to go back to the area we had been in a few nights before, and when we found it, we noticed that there wasn't a lot of overgrowth or brush and that whatever was walking towards us that night, we should have easily seen. That was kinda weird.

I believe we also met "Crazy Charlie" who has been mentioned a few times in past discussions here in this topic. He was a little strange. First he said he was the cemetary groundskeeper, and said he didn't live there in the woods, but later said that sometimes people would tap his feet while he was asleep in his tent to see if he was alive, lol. Then he said he was a convicted felon, he also said he's been talking to WILLIE (boy whos grave was dug up) for the last 20 years, and then said if we took a picture of him we wouldn't be leaving with it. Yikes! We did sneak a picture, lol. He also said he hadn't really seen anything strange, but then his definition of strange could be slightly different from most other peoples.

Anyway, the 1st night that we heard the footsteps, it was just my friend and I in the woods. There were 6 of us the day we went to the cemetary.

Anyway, I have read just about every post in this thread, and have seen the pictures, and they look a lot more crepppy than mine. One of the pictures is under the 1960 Overpass as we drove around it. The WILLIE SIMMS grave is the one that was dug up by the boys.

I don't know if the cemetary is haunted, or if the theater is haunted (we went by there too), but it was fun checking them out. We do have a picture of a ghost at the theater, lol.

Tussaud,

I'll send you an e-mail with the confirmed meeting dates to see if you can join us. I will make notes on last night, but it was just a preliminary short visit since I haven't been there before. The camera I brought was my Dad's and he has had it several months. He has used it extensively and has never had any issues with it. We will definitely have more cameras on hand during the investigation. Tonecop took pics with a non-digital camera during the day yesterday and didn't have any issues. I'll have to confirm with him whether it was a disposable or regular 35mm with batteries.

A moderator resized these pics for me. Anvil also gave me some tips on how to do it myself with the software that I have....thank y'all grin2.gif .

I have several more pics, but will just post a few.

Pic 1 - This is one of only a few that worked while facing the woods and it was taken without flash, but Tonecop was pointing a flashlight at a tree when i took the pic.

Pic 2 - This is the back of the building on the edge of the woods and was taken with flash.

Pic 3 - This was taken with a flash at one of the entrances where the woods begin. The railroad tracks run just on the other side of the trees. Further down the woodline from here is where the camera started malfunctioning.

I am so fascinated by this entire thread. and this particular quote reminded me of another poster elsewhere that commented on hearing brushy footsteps, and ran around to try to flush it out with no luck, but kept hearing the sounds also.

I must add that I am never disappointed when someone has pics of being there in the dark, and in the woods!!!!!!! I am such a chicken and that does not have anything to do with being a rookie at this, I would be too afraid to venture out into the wooded parts! I would really enjoy it if I could muster the Guts. Good pics.

I'm not running anybody or their experiences down but, this place is now so heavily traveled that footsteps are probably completely natural in origin.

I have done it about two times and got some interesting experiences. I used to go with groups but found that no activity would occur. I would work the evening shift and get off work around 1400 hours and sometimes at midnight. On both occasion, I went between the hours 2300 to 2400 hours. Give it a shot but let people know that you are venturing in the area and keep in contact with someone in the case of lost communications. That is my recommendation if you want evidence.

Yeah, I don't recommend going alone at night, or even during the day. There are bums that live out in the woods.

As far as paranormal activity... when we were out there, one of the guys with us is an experienced ghost hunter. He did get 2 fairly large spikes on his EMF meter in the graveyard, but I don't think he was impressed enough to go back and do a thorough investigation.

I grew up in Kingwood, Texas, which is about 5 miles from Humble, Texas, both suburbs of Houston, Texas. I have a few points to add, however I haven't read the whole thread so some items may already have been covered:

1. In May 2008, 3 Kingwood teenagers dug up the body of Willie Simms, to smoke pot from the skull. (disgusting, I know). His body came from the cemetery located at 1960@59N. Here are the additional links to confirm such data:

http://www.click2houston.com/news/16207127/detail.html

http://m.cnn.com/cnn/ne/us/detail/109329;j...AA8B299F255006A

http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~usgenweb...is/humble-n.htm

2. There is a nightclub called "Kickdawgs" in Atascocita on 1960. It used to be called "Flashback". It is a DIVE. However, the owner, approximately 7-8 years ago, his name was "Al" committed suicide in the back, outside the store behind, and was found by bartenders. I believe it was from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The bartenders have had several disturbances from the ghost of "Al". I was given a first-hand account by the bartenders.

One occurance was from a bartender that was closing for the night. She turned off the black lights and said, "Al, now you don't turn these off". She walked to the front of the club to exit, and turned and looked back at the bar, and the lights flipped back on. She walked back to the bar, freaked out, turned the lights off, and "Al" turned the lights back on immediately. She left them alone and ran out quickly and exited.

Another occurance was from 2 bartenders closing for the night. Christmas lights line the front outside sign, and the bartenders are responsible for unplugging the lights every night. As both bartenders walked out (they were also telling stories about "Al" at the time of this incident), they realized that the Christmas lights were still on. One bartender (1) stayed outside watching the lights and one bartender(2) unlocked the door and re-entered the club to unplug the lights. Bartender (2) came back outside to exit, and bartender (1) said the lights did not go off. Bartender (2) went inside, and grabbed the end of the extension cord to prove that the Christmas lights were unplugged and were not connected to electricity. The lights on the sign outside were still lit, and were not plugged in. Both bartenders locked up in a hurry, were very scared, and left as quickly as possible.

I am quite a skeptic when it comes to supernatural activity, but these kinds of things really freak me out!!!
ennui
Wow! That's really interesting BWSurfer. What a story! I guess AL decided to stay after all.
