I am not sure how much this was reported nationally but I know it was to an extent. Around 6/14/07 Jessie Davis (9 mo pregnant) was reported missing from Canton, OH. Long story short, her body was found this past weekend on 6/23/07 . She was still carrying her unborn child. Her boyfriend was arrested on two counts of murder. She was taken from her house while her 2 year old son watched (boyfriend was the father of that child also). He said that "mommy was in the rug". Her bedroom quilt was missing and clorox was covering the floor.
My theory is the boyfriend (a canton police officer) killed Jessie in her house and then took her, wrapped in the blanket, to where he dumped her. If that is true then she was dumped most likely on 6/15/07 or 6/16/07. Where her body was dumped was in a section of the Cuyahoga Falls National park dubbed the "Top O' the World" (30-40 min away from her house, 10 min from mine). On 6/17/07 I was enroute to the Top O' the World to show my wife the area until our plans unexpectedly changed. I am glad they did because we might have found something we weren't their looking for.
When I heard she was found at the Top O' the World I was speechless. This is an area that can only be referred to as extremely haunted. There are 2 ways to get to this area. Either you can walk a 2 mi trail or (which most people don't know) there is a steep dirt/gravel drive which isn't advertised as an entrance that will take you right there.
If you go there now, all you will find is a field and an old barn but up until 2003 there was an old house directly across from the barn dating back to the early 1800's. That house, the barn, and the surrounding area are ripe with paranormal activity. I was lucky enough to get into the house once before it was destroyed and have a lot of friends that went as far as to stay the night in the house. I could go on and on with first and second hand accounts but I will just let the following links speak for themselves. I will do this mostly because in one of the following links all the stories I can tell are listed there as well. I think that is what freaks me out the most is that so many different people have the SAME stories to tell. It is kind of hard to pass happenings off as imagination when complete strangers will tell the same tale.
The murder of Jessie Davis is a tragic, horrific event that will not be forgotten. Is it coincidence that her body was left at the Top O' the World some 30 min away from her house? One thing is for sure, this will add fuel to the fire. The local kids have a new story to focus on now that the house is gone. Now when the legend of the Top O' the World is carried on, a new, tragic tale will be told as well. The story of Jessie Davis. I can only hope that her ghost won't haunt the area along with so many others.
http://www.ohiotrespassers.com/world.html <--- good page focusing more on the history as opposed to ghost stories. TON of pics (including the house before it was destroyed). This is where I got the pics that you can see above.
http://www.deadohio.com/StoriesEtc.htm#TOP%20O%20THE%20WORLD <--- Here you will find a lot of stories people sent in concerning their experiences at the Top O' the world. Many of the same things that happened to myself or my friends happened to these people and are recounted here.
