Water Hazards, Sand Traps and 3 Moose?

Jun 29, 5:48 PM (ET)

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - A Wyoming golf course had more hazards this week than the usual sand traps, ponds and deep rough - moose.

The three young moose ambled around the first three holes, took a dip in a pond, got a drink, then rested Thursday at the Little America Hotel and Resort, according to Eric Fedell, the resort's grounds and golf manager.

Crews rerouted golfers around the moose, which rarely are seen so far east in Wyoming. Game and Fish Department workers later tranquilized the animals and shipped them to the Snowy Range, about 100 miles west of town.

They probably came from the Pole Mountain area more than 20 miles west of Cheyenne, Game and Fish spokesman Eric Keszler said.

"There is a moose population there, and it's been growing," he said.

Resort officials said they worried that the moose could wander onto nearby Interstate 80.

"We've never experienced anything like that before. We have a lot rabbit and geese, but no moose," resort spokeswoman Sue Clark said.

Eh, not so unusual.
When I lived in St. Maries, Idaho there were deer on the local golf course all the time. Elk were also commonly seen on the course.
In fact, during hunting season a couple of players brought their elk rifle with them.
Before they could get a shot, hunting around and from the course was declared illegal.
To my knowledge, no elk or deer were ever shot on the golf course.
Not so in nearby downtown Plummer, Idaho!
There, about 20 years ago, a Coeur d'Alene Tribal member shot an elk on main street, as cars passed by on US 95. Nothing could be done because he was (A) A member of the tribe and (cool.gif Exercising his hunting rights as a tribal member.
Shortly after that, the City of Plummer declared the city a no-hunting zone.
If you live on the Coeur d'Alene Reservation, any tribal member can come onto your land to hunt, fish or pick berries --- even if you post No Trespassing signs!
People (whites and Indians) have had pet deer shot in their front yard -- and nothing could be done.
It is still this way. Tribal members still have rights to hunt, fish and gather berries on all public and private land within the reservation.
Think about this if you ever plan to buy land on an Indian Reservation!

In Estes Park, CO elk on the golf course are so common that they have a free ball drop rule in case your ball lands in the elk droppings. I had an elk lick my car window once. I don't think they are afraid of anything.
