IMO, the maneuvering has little to do with aerodynamics. To me, they seem to be in a 'gravity free bubble' of sorts, where inertia is not an issue, and where the shape of the craft is not an issue.... But that is just what I think. But of course, I'm not sure.
It just seems the saucer design would be a bit of a problem when shooting straight up -- but wouldn't you believe, it isn't. The design would seem ideal for side to side movement, but the G forces we've calculated some of these craft hitting are astonishing, and would be enough to literally crush a man. There are many questions to be answered, but as of right now, it seems being able to tamper with gravity would be the best explanation for the amazing things some of these craft can do.
