We can season it with turmeric, onions and salt, then deep fried it, and served with fresh rice accompanied by vegetables and smooth peanut sauce (from grinded peanut with water). My country's specialty!

^Actually, the most dangerous part of a catfish is the whiskers, and no, they won't bite and drag you underwater, read the wiki for more info!

Yep, that's one big catfish. It had to be over 5 feet long. Average men are about 5'10", and that thing was at least as large as he was. But I'd like to know on what river the fishermen were.
If my memory serves me right, there is a lake (northern USA maybe?) where there is rumored a catfish that has grown to gargantuan proportions. I believe it is said to live near the base of the dam. (Correct me if I'm wrong)

Okay so after doing a little research, I couldn't find anything about the whiskers being dangerous. What I found was that the most dangerous part was the spines on the dorsal and pectoral fins. And I was also wondering if those spines were on all catfish, especially of the genus Corydoras sp. You seem to have a knowledge of this, capo. Or should I be asking frogfish?

we have huge catfish like that here in louisiana if you fish them out of the mississippi river,,they have some spots like around grain elevators that al the fish do is sit on the bottom and eat tha grain that fall,,also they are super strong from growing up in the a river sith such a strong current,,
the whiskers arnt dangerouse at all,,but that damn dorsal fin friggen hurts real bad,,,i had one stick his barb about 1 1/2 inches into my hand god does it burn..you really have to clean it or youll get a nasty infection...
i dont know how true it is,,but talking to older salty captains they tell stories of divers in the mississippi river getting scared and coming out of the water because something huge hit them wile they were down..the mississippi is muddy and dark 5 ft under the water you cant see your hands infront of your face but what ever was down there brushed up against them and scared them that bad,,,so the stories go

louisiana record as of now
http://www.lagameandfish.com/fishing/catfi...ing/LA_0605_01/The smallest of the "big three" whiskered sportfish, channel cats cannot compete with monster blues or flatheads. Channel cats can grow as large as 58 pounds, as the world record from South Carolina indicates. However, flathead catfish can grow larger than 120 pounds. Blue cats can also top the century mark. Old records tell of massive blues weighing nearly 400 pounds pulled from the Mississippi River in the 19th century.

I've never kept Corydoras catfish in an aquarium before, as i'm sure thats why you are referring to them, i'm also 90% sure that Corydoras are one of the few species of Catfish that don't have spine on their dorsal or pectoral fins. as for where that river may be located, it could be in Missouri as i'm aware the Catfish there are supposed to get fairly large.

Corydoras sp. & Wels Catfish (Siluris Gianis) do not have gill plate or dorsal spines.
Only certain species of catfish have this protection.

But I'd like to know on what river the fishermen were
The Wels catfish (Siluris Gianis) in the video was caught from either one of the French rivers (Soane or Seine), the Danube in Germany, Volga Delta in Russia or from the Ebro in Spain. Hard to tell exactly which reiver due to no landmarks visible, but it is definately a European river.
Believe me they grow to bigger than that in any of the aforementioned rivers I have put above!!!

Like said before, that is a European Wels catfish. I believe the one in the video was caught in Italy...the current "hotspot" for Wels fishing.
No, the whiskers of catfish are not dangerous at all. However, many catfish have a bony "spike" on their dorsal and pectoral fins, that can leave a nasty wound. Channel cats, flatheads, bullheads, and Gaffsoptails all have dorsal and pectoral spikes.

Who ever said catfish aren't dangerous is dead wrong. There was a man who went noodling in a river
near me this year and was pulled under by a catfish. He washed up a few miles down river with his
right are chewed off. Needless to say catfish are one of the better freshwater game fish. In fact I
have a small yellow bullhead (that I caught) in my aquarium.

I disagree Cory's have dorsal spines. I had a Cory in with a Jack Dempsey and one day the Dempsey attack the Cory and he ended up with the cat stuck to his lip. I thought I was going to have to take them out and separate them, but he shook off the cat before I got the net out. He never touch that Cory again.
I love Corys they are so cute.

Catfish aren't dangerous, people are just stupid!
A gar wouldn't attack a person either.
